PÚCA PUPPETS PRESENTS The Mice and The Elephants Age Group: 3-5 year olds and their families.

“Did anyone hear anything? I thought I heard a little creaky squeaking sound?” said the Elephant. “Please can you ask the elephants to stop walking on us!” the Mouse King shouted. The Elephant looked around, “is that a tickly little noise or do my ears need cleaning? Oh my goodness, what a teeny, tiny, funny little furry thing you are, did you say something? Come up here beside my ear until I hear you speak”.

To celebrate and mark the arrival of two new baby elephants in Dublin Zoo, the Children’s Art in Libraries Programme in partnership with Púca Puppets are delighted to present The Mice and The Elephants, a Panchatantra Hindu animal fable from India . A SENSE OF PLACEwith artist: Yvonne CullivanAge group: 8-11 Year olds What’s your favourite place? Why is it so important to you? What do you remember most clearly about it?

Exploring place through sight, sound, touch, and smell, this programme will look at how we experience and remember particular places. Working with the artist Yvonne Cullivan, children will produce a collection of multimedia elements that relate to their chosen place. Such elements can be invented, remembered, or real and will be recreated by participants using all sorts of media, including images, colours, textures, sounds and smells.

Over five weeks, children will have the opportunity to participate in creative writing, oral storytelling, discussion, drawing, collage, and audio recording. At the end of the programme it is hoped, that these elements will be displayed together according to the children’s designs, as a sensory representation of their own personal sense of place.

A Sense of Place will take place in Walkinstown Library from 3.30pm – 4.30pm on Thursday 6th November – Thursday 4th December.

For further details and a registration form, please contact: Walkinstown Library, Telephone 01-4558159 or e-mail: [email protected]

What do you think would happen if you told these ideas to a musician? A DIARY OF DUBLIN CITY LIBRARY AGED 20¼.

with artists Emmett Scanlon and Aoife Giles Age group: 12+

Using your library as a base, come and explore architecture, design and the rooms we use everyday in a new way!

We occupy rooms and streets and gardens and parks, all of the time, all of our days and all of our lives. But these spaces also occupy us – they change our mood, alter our feelings, direct how we talk with our family or friends. We remember them in our hearts, minds and bodies as we grow up and old, even if we don’t use some of these spaces anymore.

A Diary of Dublin City Library is a pilot programme that will support children to develop their understanding of our designed and built world and the rooms and places we use everyday, exploring the role they play in our daily lives. Working with architect Emmett Scanlon and artist Aoife Giles over two hours and using a variety of creative and exciting methods, you will be encouraged to explore architecture, using the spaces of the library through touch, smell, and sound, as well as sight!

A diary of DUBLIN CITY LIBRARY AGED 20¼ will take place in Dublin Central Library from 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm on Tuesday 28th October. Participants are welcome to sign up for either session. For further details and a registration form, please contact: Central Library, telephone 01-8734333 or e-mail: [email protected]
