The practice of slavery dates back to prehistoric times
although its institutionalization probably first occurred
in early historical times, when agricultural advances
made organized societies possible. Slaves were needed
for various specialized functions in these societies.
They were basically obtained either through raids or
conquests of other peoples or within the society itself
when some people sold themselves or their family
members to pay debts or were enslaved as punishment
for crimes. Slavery was an accepted feature essential to
the economy and society of all ancient civilizations. The
ancient Egyptians used slaves on a mass scale to build
the royal palaces and monuments. The ancient Hebrews
also used slaves but they were required by religious law
to free slaves of their own nationality at certain fixed
times. In the more advanced civilizations of
pre-Columbian America such Maya, slave labour was
also used on a large scale in both agriculture and
warfare.

other poems. His poetry and plays are generally about
feelings such as love, jealousy, and anger. Shakespeare’s
plays have been translated into almost every language

The Wright Brothers were two Americans who are credited with inventing and building the world’s first successful airplane and making the first controlled and powered heavier-than-air human flight on 17 December 1903. In the two years afterward, they developed their flying machine into the first fixed-wing aircraft. Although not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft, the Wright Brothers were the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed-wing flight possible. The Wright Brothers’ fundamental breakthrough was their invention of three axis-control, which enabled the pilot to steer the aircraft effectively and to maintain its equilibrium. This method became standard on fixed-wing aircraft of all kinds. From the beginning of their aeronautical work, the Wright Brothers focused on unlocking the secrets of control to conquer the flying problem, rather than developing more powerful engines as some other experimenters did. Their work with bicycles in particular influenced their belief that an unstable vehicle like a flying machine could be controlled and balanced with practice.
1. It is understood from the passage that the Wright Brothers ----.
A) developed the most powerful aircraft engine of their timeB) were inspired by their work with bicycles while trying to solve the control problem of aircraft C) invented the first fixed-wing aircraft in 1903 D) were the first people to fly an aircraftE) weren’t the first experimenters to develop a fully controllable airplane
2. We can understand from the passage that ----.A) the plane the Wright Brothers developed was impractical to fly for more than a short distance because of control problemsB) the Wright Brothers paved the way for other experimenters to make the first controlled flight though they didn’t become successful in their attempts
C) the method which the Wright Brothers found to fly an aircraft effectively proved to be useless in later yearsD) the most important invention of the Wright Brothers was an engine-powered aircraftE) the main function of three axis-control method which the Wright Brothers found was to help direct an aircraft successfully
3. According to the passage, it is true that from the beginning of their aeronautical work, Wright Brothers ----.
A) concentrated on developing a reliable method of pilot control to achieve a successful flightB) tried to invent a powerful aircraft engine to achieve a heavier-than-air human flightC) focused on developing a light aircraft which was able to float in the air for a long timeD) worked with other experimenters collaboratively to invent a fixed-wing aircraft E) tried to develop a mechanism which would enable a pilot to fly an aircraft at high speeds

The effective combination of various resources, which
result in the creation of goods and services, is called
production. These resources, which are either obtained
from nature or provided by humans, are known as
factors of production and have both common and distinct
characteristics. They all have to be paid for and as a
result the process of production adds to the value of the
product. Also, to some extent, they can be substituted for
one another. Capital, which refers not only to cash but
also to buildings, machines and other materials, is the
only factor which is deliberately and completely created
by humans. Labour is distinguished from the other factors
in that it is human. The only natural factor of production is
land. Therefore, its total supply is not responsive at all to
any conditions caused by humans.

There are some jobs that are diffi cult to get into. Acting is
one of them. First you have to have the talent, and then
you need to get into drama school. You have to be able
to learn lines. Also work can be infrequent, and actors
often take on temporary jobs to pay the rent. Some can
get work either in advertisements or by just doing the
voiceovers for them. To get a part they have to audition
for it, which can be tough as you could end up going to a
lot of auditions before you are taken on. The part could
be for the stage, a fi lm, television or even the radio. You
will need a huge amount of confi dence and a burning
desire to be an actor. As you will face strong criticism at
times this can be very demoralizing. If you get over these
and have the talent, then you should really go for it.

The effective combination of various resources, which
result in the creation of goods and services, is called
production. These resources, which are either obtained
from nature or provided by humans, are known as
factors of production and have both common and distinct
characteristics. They all have to be paid for and as a
result the process of production adds to the value of the
product. Also, to some extent, they can be substituted for
one another. Capital, which refers not only to cash but
also to buildings, machines and other materials, is the
only factor which is deliberately and completely created
by humans. Labour is distinguished from the other factors
in that it is human. The only natural factor of production is
land. Therefore, its total supply is not responsive at all to
any conditions caused by humans.

Üniversite sınavına giren öğrencilerin sayısındaki artış ve mütercim tercümanlık, öğretmenlik vb. mesleklerin toplumda giderek saygınlık kazanması, Dil puanıyla öğrenci alan bölümlere talebi arttırmaktadır. Bu gerçek, ÖSYM’nin uyguladığı YDT İngilizce Sınavı’nın zorlaşması ve ayırt edici soru sayısının artması sonucunu doğurmuştur.
Dolayısıyla, öğrencilerin sınava girmeden önce, soru tipleri, ÖSYM mantığı ve soruların zorluk dereceleri hakkında fikir sahibi olmalarını sağlayacak örnek testler çözmeleri, eksikliklerini ve düzeylerini görmeleri bakımından son derece önemlidir. DİLKO PERIODICAL YDT İngilizce sınavına girecek öğrencilere yardımcı olmak amacıyla hazırlanmış bir settir.
