版畫類評審感言 評審委員 陳國展

臺灣現代版畫,1974 年由廖修平先生引進推廣,倏已 40 年,此凹、凸、平、孔版的現代版畫,很順利地接續抗戰木

刻,分枝散葉蓬勃發展蔚為時尚,千禧年後拜資訊科技突飛猛進,又有電腦數位版畫及單刷版畫,使版畫面貌更廣闊、更

豐富,同時政府又全力推展,在各級公私美展設立版畫部徵畫給獎鼓勵,如推出中華民國國際版畫雙年展、中華民國版印

年畫展等,為接軌世界版藝潮流舉辦大型交流展學術論壇,邀約知名版畫家來臺切磋技藝、分享教畫經驗,使國內版畫品

質、數量精進,並提升普及全民,同時也帶動兩岸四地版畫藝術教育活動。

此刻在屏美館舉辦的「亞洲九國版畫交流展」可觀察到國際創作現況的端倪。即版面趨向作大,技法精細且印製纖細

厚工,廣泛運用版材研發新技法讓人激賞;而以傳統技法探討再經由電腦製版列印輸出的作品,其複製輕便之獨特性,深

信必能廣受普羅大眾歡迎接受,所以,版作可以似小家碧玉也可以是大家閨秀,然印量縮減藉以精緻品質亦是另外期許。

努力推廣創作,成為臺灣版畫界領頭羊者甚眾,雖然每屆收件數只在 60 件上下,但都是當下精采傑作。同時評審制度透

明公開、嚴謹周延,歷年得獎的不分國內外人士、不偏版種輕重,唯尊以當時競逐作品良窳是瞻。於是獲獎的肯定是他們

本屆版畫收件 59 件,初審選出 9 件,一個月後從送審原作複選 9 件入選,再討論投票評定得獎前三名及優選兩名,

由評委林昌德、董振平、楊明迭、林智信、陳國展五位執評,責由筆者匯集整理各委員感言如下:

第一名游雅蘭的「The Night Starts Here (夜晚自此綻放) 」,她用大面積白楊木板以單版複刻凸版油墨套色印成,畫面

優雅氣氛獨特,晨曦光熱的溫暖,小草花朵五彩繽紛似已均沾朝露,欣欣向榮,蟲鳴流水喧揚在耳,引發作家強烈環保意

識及保護鄉里執著,以記憶中童年深刻的農村印象為主題,發揮純熟技法,刻功呈現穿透性,並以俗民色彩增強堆疊性,

令人憶起水月鏡花般的孤寂,是難得傑作。

第二名周佑貞的「駝鳥夢」,用特大尺寸石膏板刻成,粉蠟筆填色拓屬印凸版,她在圖式呈現上,將山水層景活潑生

動的詮釋中,另有人物身首潛埋其中作駝鳥心態。是逃避現實、遠離社會重重危機的自我,似若嬉戲般地脫離自然規律,

尋覓另類思維空間。石膏大版易碎難拓又費時,能完成偌大作品是屬難得,唯拓印時殘留沾污是為瑕疵。

第三名王毓麒的「歲逝」是傳統平板作品,用輕薄鋅鋁版 ( PS版 ) 照相感光製版單色印成,構圖具細緻的張力,敘述

人生歲月不饒人,容顏隨滄桑流長,人事無常辛酸甘苦自知,盼藉回顧省思,凝聚成一股生命力道與能量,唯圖面太滿難

以調息,假以時日必有佳績。

優選古一君的「一個缺席的場合」用金屬版深蝕刻單色印成,酸蝕效果掌握頗佳,圖像清明、意念凝聚突顯,表達其

內心不安與焦慮,以深蝕刻技法能呈現如此深刻視效是非常可貴的,唯空間層次深度不足,可經由直刻或松香細點法琢磨

形成,可探討空間甚廣,是位可讓大家期待的作家。

另一優選是波蘭籍 Pawel Delekta 的作品「 物件 Ⅲ」,以超現實構成作品,他在平面大板上預留物件與影子位置,平

均抹上慢乾性類似樹酯凝膠,再慢工雕撥,造形成凹凸不平表面,待乾涸後以凹凸版壓印而成,他以圖形符號來介紹現實

的週期,如將物件放置於大建築物景觀中,將顯示「那一個」和「是什麼」的衝突問題,是件極具新穎創意的好作品。

Chen, Kuo-Chan

Modern Taiwanese printmaking was introduced to Taiwan 40 years ago in 1974 by Mr. Liao Hsiu-Ping. Printmaking includes intaglio, relief, lithographic and porous printing styles, which were successfully balanced with woodcutting and quite trendy at that time. After the turn of the century, thanks to the fast growth of the Internet, digital and single-brush printmaking have been added as other printmaking options. Meanwhile, the government has offered its full support to promote printmaking, launching both public and private printmaking exhibitions to solicit works and present awards. Such events include The International Biennial Print Exhibition of the ROC, Chinese New Year Printmaking Exhibition of the ROC, among others. Furthermore, in order to stay abreast of global printmaking art trends the Taiwanese government has been holding large academic-exchange forums, inviting famous printmaking artists to visit Taiwan to compete, share their experiences and teach others their printmaking skills. Advancing the quality and quantity of local printmaking works via such events, while at the same time raising the awareness of this art form through arts education activities, is a great goal for Taiwan.

Now we can gain a better understanding of international prints through the“Nine-Nation Printmaking Exchange Exhibit of Asia”organized by the Pingtung Art Museum. While we have found the size of printmaking works to be bigger than ever, execution remains very detailed and delicate. We can also observe that plates are no longer restricted to wood, as the usage of a broad variety of materials to create plates has emerged. For instance, there is no doubt that digital printing will soon be widely accepted because of its convenience and uniqueness. Therefore, printmaking today can be as varied as an unpolished piece of jade or the image of a highbred belle.

The Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City is another showcase for Taiwanese printmaking. Few artists have won the Da Dun Prize over 18 years and the prestige of this award means that winners continue working hard on their projects and efforts to promote their works. The judging system is absolutely fair and discreet and there isn’t any preference toward any kind of printing style or nationality. Rather, all submissions are judged and chosen on the merits of the works themselves. Accordingly, the affirmation provided to prize winners is a significant stepping stone towards artists’futures.

This year, the printmaking category received 59 submissions. During the preliminary one-month review we chose nine works for the final review and then decided the top three prizes and two Award of Merit winners through voting and discussion. The judges were Lin Chang-De, Tung Chen-Ping, Yang Ming-Dye, Lin Chih-Hsin and Chen Kuo-Chan. Below are their statements.

Yu Ya-Lan’s First Prize winner,“The Night Starts Here”, is a relief printing. She applied a plate for all of the copies onto a large panel of poplar wood, and at last process, she used ink to cover the whole wood. The image has a unique elegance. The strong inspiration of the warmth of the dawning sun, the green grass and colorful flowers blossoming with the morning dew, and the sound of a flowing river inspired the creator’s strong green consciousness, along with a persistent desire to protect the environment. She chose the topic from the most unforgettable memory of her childhood—a farm village—and brought her skills into full play with every cut she made. Furthermore, she used abundant folk elements to increase the work’s layers to illustrate the loneliness of the virtue image. This is a rare masterpiece.

The runner-up is“The Dream of Burying Our Heads in the Sand”created by Zhou You-Zhen. The work is a relief printing carved on an extra-heavy gauge, and then painted with pastels. Amongst the vivid landscape scenery, she also illustrated people burying their heads in the sand in reference to the work’s subject, representing an escape from the danger of reality and society. To not take everything seriously and to escape from the laws of nature is a search for a unique mindset.

Printing on a heavy plaster board is very challenging because it is very fragile, making the process time-consuming. Therefore, it is rare that an artist gets to finish such works. The only flaw of this piece is a stain left by the rubbing and printing process.

The second runner-up is“As Time Goes By”, created by Wang Yu-Chi. This is a traditional panel work, printed on a PS board—installed in a camera to sense light during photography. The composition has a meticulous tension. It elaborates on the idea that time waits for no man as facial appearances age with the vicissitudes of life and there is an awareness of bittersweet joys and sorrows together with the hope of gathering life's power and energy through introspection. The flaw of this piece is the overflowing content. If the creator becomes more aware of the composition, she will begin to generate better results.

An Award of Merit goes to“An Absent Occasion”created by Ku Yi-Chun. The work was made on a medal plate, carved with deep-etching skills, and printed with a single color. The etching ended up very good. The image clearly shows the flustered anxiety in one’s mind. It is very praiseworthy to apply deep-etching to a metal plate in order to provide such visual effects. Yet the lack of depth in its layer can be fixed by applying resin aquatint or direct etching. This is a very promising author with a bright future.

Another Award of Merit went to“Objects III ”created by Pawel Delekta, who was born in Poland. He composed this work with surrealism, reserving spots on the large panel for objects and shadows. He then evenly distributed slow-dry glue, similar to resin gelatin, and stirred it to form an uneven surface to print on with an embossing plate when dry. He introduces the cycle of reality by using circular symbols, just like placing spatial blocks on the landscape background of a big architectural agglomeration to show the clash of“that”and“what”. This is a brilliant, creative piece.

夜晚自此綻放,湖面映著破碎的倒影,閃耀著迷亂的光芒。從表象經驗

得到的片段交疊成創作畫面,反映的是內在的精神空間。作者使用一版

複刻方式,藉由在木板上刻磨深淺不一的刻痕及疊色,欲營造一個非真

實而具體的存在。

DescriptionThe night starts here. The lake shines with dazzling sparkles and bouncing, shattered reflections. The moments distilled from the sum of experiences blend into one created image, mirroring the internal spiritual space. I used a plate for all of the copies, carved the wood to different depths, and laminated it with different color tones. My goal was to make it look as if it were real and existed in this world.

表現一種不安全感的情緒狀態。面對難以控制的外在逼迫與沸騰的內在情緒,無能為力地引發

了焦慮、膽怯與茫然,並產生了逃避的心態。試圖裝作若無其事地忽略那些岌岌可危的境況與

壓抑自身內心的糾結情感,無力改變即將面臨的破壞或拆穿。

DescriptionThe work presents an insecure emotional state. Facing uncontrollable external forces and seething internal emotions, helplessness triggers anxiety, timidity and absent-mindedness, resulting in the urge to escape. Trying to pretend as if nothing had happened, ignoring those critical situations and holding back the entangled feelings inside can’t do anything to stop the upcoming destruction and unmasking.

DescriptionEach year, there are at least three l a rge-sca le Ta iwanese M i l k weed Butterfly migrations in Taiwan. Flying from south to north, they experience all kinds of dif ficulties. This butterfly highway is representative of Taiwan’s ecosystem health. I used relief printing, pasting and other skills to present the diversity of graphic art.

所謂的大眾甜,是說同一款的糖果,每顆看似如此的獨特可愛,但吃進嘴裡

時,卻是一樣的甜度。就像在社會規範中,每個人都是這個社會體制下被社會

化的產物,儘管如何突顯個人化的特色,卻還是無法脫離已被社會化的本質。

DescriptionThe concept behind“Masses of Sweets”is describing a pile of the same candy. Each one looks so unique and delectable, but when you put it in your mouth it all tastes the same. This is just like society, where everyone is a socialized product of the social system. Despite our efforts to make our personal features stand out, we still can’t get rid of the socialized thinking inside.

水彩類評審感言 評審委員 簡嘉助

本屆參與水彩類競賽徵件數為 153 件,其中國外作品有 15 件,比上屆增加了 21 件。經初審入圍送件參加複審者,

合計 23 件。由評審委員:沈國仁、黃銘祝、林仁傑、林偉民等教授及本人經多次票選後,選出前三名各 1 件,優選 4

件,入選 16 件參與展出。

整體而言,參展水準提高,競爭激烈,能入選即為佳作。願創作者能全心投入,繼續鑽研並走出自我的風格,為藝

壇發光發熱。

第一名張家龍的作品「破曉迎曦」,以雙全開畫幅表現了雨後天晴故鄉港邊映像,技法運用活潑,主題突顯,搶眼而

有力。

第二名莊凱評的作品「微光城市-6」,是作者以主題系列研討方式創作的連作之一作品,以俯瞰角度表現都市光彩,

採透明技法,透視與遠近空間掌控良好,值為推介。

第三名蘇芳毅的作品「暖友小聚」,作者擬藉畫作表現好友相互關心鼓勵互勉的情懷,採褐色調統合,神韻表情細

膩,溫馨可愛。

優選 4 件:有侯彥廷的「行走」、蔣玉俊的「流動時光的片刻」、黃昱筌的「物與影」、蔡淑珍的「陽臺上的仙人掌」。也都

各有自己風貌,強烈表達個人的感動與心裡的話,都值為鼓勵。

綜觀本屆大墩美展的水彩畫作品,題材內容寬廣,反映了時代性與生活感觸或表現內心的思維與期待,印證了作者

樂在享受創作的充實。個人也期許,藉作品的展出發表能推動更多的民眾體會創作,而更喜歡接近與參與藝術的活動,

快樂渡過每一天。

an increase of 15 works from the previous year. During the preliminary review, 23 artworks were chosen for the final review. The

jurors, including Shen Guo-Jen, Huang Ming-Zhu, Lin Jen-Chien, Lin Wei-Min and me, carefully selected the top three prizes, four

awards of merit and 16 short-listed awards after rounds of voting and careful discussion.

Overall, the bar for triumph in this competition has been lifted, which means that receiving a short-listed award can be

considered very positive recognition. It’s my sincere hope that our artists can continue their great work and cultivate their own unique

styles.

First Prize went to Chang Chia-Lung for his“Greeting the Dawn”. The key to his success lies in his lively and sophisticated

skills, powerfully capturing the amazing scene of a seaport after a storm.

Chuang Kai-Ping won the Second Prize with“Dim Light of the City VI ”, one of his works from this series. Employing a

transparent technique, the artist superbly portrays the lights and the depth of space from up above.

Third Prize was granted to Su Fang-Yi for his“Quality Time with Friends”. Adopting a warm brown color tone, the artist

successfully presents a scene of heartwarming friendship with vivid facial expressions of care and love.

Four Awards of Merit are as follows: Hou Yan-Ting’s“Walking”; Chiang Yu-Chun’s “Flowing Moments of Time”; Huang Yu-

Cyuan’s“Substance and Shadow”; and Tsai Shu-Chen’s“Cactus at the Balcony”. Each piece strongly expresses its artist’s personal

feelings and approaches in a unique individual style.

The subjects selected this year for the water color painting category are quite diverse, not only effectively reflecting the feelings,

thoughts and expectations of this time but also revealing how fun and fulfilling artistic creation can be for both the artists and

audience. I personally hope that the exhibition will encourage the public to pursue the creation of art themselves and introduce more

arts-related activities to their lives.

DescriptionCockroaches are known for their strong will to live. The artist embraces this spirit and transforms it to symbolize his soul. Facing his imminent graduation, the artist is overwhelmed with job-seeking, his illness and mishaps in his family. Successive hope, disappointment, despair, acceptance and realization have made the artist who he is today. By documenting his questions of life in this creation series, he not only finds answers but also comfort during the process. Frustration and challenges are not the equivalent of punishment but an opportunity. Recording my confusion and life experiences is a source of inspiration for creation as well as a pursuit of solutions to my troubled situation. DescriptionA belief in the Gate God can be traced far back. The role of this deity is to safeguard households and keep the devil away. Ranked as a first-category historic building, the North Gate God of Kaohsiung city’s Zuoying district has a long history. Made of stones, the gate might appear battered but it still remains grave and solemn. The artist employs a wet watercolor technique that allows the colors to bleed and blend in, a distinctive effect of this skill.

However, if you look closely, you can always find some senior citizen in a corner gazing into the distance or minding their own business in total solitude. Perhaps they are waiting for something to happen or someone to visit them. Unfortunately, most of the time, it’s the noise that fills up the void in their longing hearts.

DescriptionOn a cloudless and quiet moonlit night, the harbor wears a mysterious, yet dazzling, mask. The beauty is beyong words.“How can I illustrate this glamorous mystery?” the artist contemplated. Adopting bold colors—yellow and purple—the artist utilized a mixture of acrylic and resin to create the golden light of the moon and the texture of the moving clouds on this particular night. In so doing, he hopes the strength of Western oil painting and a state of Zen, best portrayed by watercolor painting, can be appreciated at the same time.176

DescriptionThe morning sun has just come up, the clouds dissipating slowly and a group of white egrets fly over to the still-unplowed rice paddy to seek food. This is one of the scenes I’ve witnessed many times while taking my daughter to school. The scenery varies according to the weather conditions and I’m blessed to know that we’re part of it each day.
