Origin and history
Origin: South America.
Seeds were brought to Europe in the XIXcentury.
Small plants were sent to some SouthernAsian countries.
Current sources: Brazil, Malaysia, Congo…
Properties
Easily oxidized by air.
Sensitive to heat.
Soft.
Elastic.
Uses
Rubber tubes.
Shoe soles & door stoppers.
Rubber bands.
Rubber hoses and rubber caps.
Synthetic rubber
What is it?
Elastomer, more elastic under stress thanothers.
Can return to previous size after stress.
Substitute of natural rubber.
Origin and history
Bouchardat created a type in 1897.
Fritz Hofmann obtained first syntheticrubber in 1909.
It take a big demand in vehicles.
Properties
Resistant again heat and flames.
Flexible in low temperatures.
Electricity and heat insulator
Resistant to wear aging.
Uses
To form:
Tyres of vehicles.
Adhesive tapes.
Hoses.
Shoe soles.
Wire and cable insulation.
Neoprene
What is it?
Type of synthetic rubber.
It have a lot of applications.
Is the rubber with more uses.
Origin and history
Invented by company DuPont.
First rubber produced in comany scale.
Obtained from synthetic rubber.
Properties
Very flexible.
High durability.
Fire, fat, oil, sun light and water salinity resistant.
It’s corroded by the sun and rain.
Serious pollution effects.
Uses
Pipes.
Leashes.
Gloves.
Sleeping bags.
