As in previous years, the International Fair of Contemporary Art, ARCOmadrid, is opening to the public and joining in the ambitious and innovative range of cultural offers in our region, turning Madrid into the international centre of contemporary art over the month of February.

ARCOmadrid is now established as an annual event not to be missed in the international art sector and as a privileged showcase for our artists and creators in promoting their work internationally. An event which, year after year, receives an exceptional reception by the public and which last year, attracted more than 118,000 visitors.

Thanks to the support and cooperation of the whole sector, the fair is celebrating its 33rd edition with its usual vitality and innovative spirit, consolidating our region as a tourist destination and a major international focus of creation and cultural diffusion.

This new edition of ARCOmadrid has a clear challenge this year; to enable the fair to maintain its position among the best in the world and attract new collectors, in a difficult economic context. An effort which, during last years edition, was focused specifically on international collecting and obtained excellent results.

For the Government of the Regional Community of Madrid, it is extremely rewarding to once again be part of this annual event and organise a new edition the eleventh , of the ARCO-Community of Madrid Prize for young artists, which acknowledges the work of new talents exhibiting at the fair. As on previous occasions, the winning piece will be included in the Contemporary Art Collection of the Regional Community of Madrid, to enhance the collections deposited in the CA2M Dos de Mayo Art Centre.

This year, the guest country is Finland, which will show us, through 13 galleries, the work of an emerging generation of Finnish artists whose participation in ARCOmadrid is, in most cases, their first international presentation. In addition, we have planned an exhibition at our Exhibitions Hall at Alcal 31 entitled Finlandia? to establish the artistic presence of the Scandinavian country in Madrid.

I would like to wish all the artists and gallery-owners the greatest success at this new edition, and invite the citizens of Madrid and all those who are visiting us to take this new opportunity to enjoy the best of international culture and contemporary art in Madrid.

Un ao ms, la Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporneo, ARCOmadrid, abre sus puertas y se suma a la ambiciosa e innovadora oferta cultural que ofrece nuestra regin, convirtiendo a Madrid en el centro internacional del arte contemporneo durante el mes de febrero.

ARCOmadrid es ya una cita anual imprescindible en el mercado mundial del arte y constituye para nuestros artistas y creadores un privilegiado escaparate para la promocin internacional de su trabajo. Un evento que, ao tras ao, recibe una excepcional acogida por parte del pblico y que atrajo en su pasada edicin a ms de 118.000 visitantes.

Gracias al apoyo y la colaboracin de todo el sector, la Feria celebra su 33 edicin con la vitalidad y el espritu innovador de siempre, y viene a consolidar a nuestra regin como un destino turstico y un foco de creacin y difusin cultural de primer orden mundial.

La nueva edicin de ARCOmadrid afronta este ao un claro desafo; conseguir que, en un difcil contexto econmico, la Feria mantenga su posicin entre las mejores del mundo y logre atraer a nuevos coleccionistas. Un esfuerzo que en la pasada edicin se dirigi especialmente hacia al coleccionismo internacional, obteniendo excelentes resultados.

Para el Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid es una satisfaccin unirse un ao ms a esta muestra, y celebrar una nueva edicin, la undcima ya, del Premio ARCO-Comunidad de Madrid para jvenes artistas, que reconoce el trabajo de los nuevos talentos que exponen en la Feria. Como en anteriores ocasiones, la obra galardonada se incorporar a la Coleccin de Arte Contemporneo de la Comunidad de Madrid, enriqueciendo los fondos depositados en el CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo.

Este ao, Finlandia ser el pas invitado y nos mostrar, a travs de 13 galeras, la obra de una generacin emergente de artistas finlandeses, cuya participacin en ARCOmadrid constituye, en la mayora de los casos, su presentacin internacional. Adems, en nuestra Sala de Exposiciones de Alcal 31 hemos programado una exposicin que bajo el ttulo Finlandia? reforzar la presencia artstica del pas nrdico en la capital.

Quiero desear a todos los artistas y galeristas el mayor de los xitos en esta nueva edicin e invitar a todos los madrileos, y a quienes nos visitan, a que aprovechen esta nueva oportunidad de disfrutar en Madrid de lo mejor de la cultura y del arte contemporneo internacional.

Once again, Madrid celebrates its International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCOmadrid 2014. As Mayor of the city, I would like to welcome the collaborating galleries, artists, curators and professionals of the industry, businesses and associations, art collectors and enthusiasts, who are such an essential part of Madrids cultural scene.

Apart from the honour it is for the capital of Spain to celebrate ARCOmadrid, it is also a great honour for us that the name of Madrid is linked to one of the most consolidated and attractive international fairs of the contemporary art scene. It certainly helps strengthen Madrids international image

We at Madrid City Council are very aware of the importance of the Fair for raising Madrids cosmopolitan, open and dynamic profile. That is why we have been working together with ARCOmadrid, since its inception, providing space and resources for activities that complement and enrich the artistic offerings of the Fair throughout the entire city.

Promoting and encouraging collections is one of the great challenges, encouraged by ARCOmadrid, that will have our applause and support. We at the Madrid City Council, only too aware of the importance of collecting for the preservation and dissemination of art, are promoting a series of exhibitions entitled Patronage in the Service of Art. The aim is to present the best private collections in Spain and highlight their role in safeguarding our vast artistic heritage.

Exhibitions held at CentroCentro-Cibeles, such as The Legacy of the House of Alba and the Helga de Alvear collection and current one on the Masaveu collection, are part of our work to lend recognition to collecting, an aim we share with ARCOmadrid and something which has always been central to the history of the Fair.

ARCOmadrid plays the key role of helping to ensure the continued renewal of artistic contents and the international exposure of our new creators. Spain is a leading cultural power, and the prestige that comes with this is also measured by our capacity to renew and strengthen our presence in the international contemporary art circuits.

I would like to give a special welcome to Finland, the guest country at the 33rd edition of ARCOmadrid, and wish all the Fairs participants and visitors an enjoyable stay in our city. ARCOmadrid is a wonderful opportunity for enjoying our city Madrids art and endless excellent attractions, a city that has certainly made an art of living.

Madrid acoge un ao ms la celebracin de la Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporneo, ARCOmadrid 2014. Como alcaldesa de la ciudad quiero dar la bienvenida a galeras, artistas, comisarios y profesionales del sector, empresas y entidades colaboradoras, coleccionistas y amantes del arte, todos ellos protagonistas de esta feria, que hoy es parte esencial de la escena cultural madrilea.

Adems del prestigio que ARCOmadrid otorga a la capital de Espaa, es una gran satisfaccin que el nombre de Madrid vaya unido a una de las ferias ms consolidadas y con mayor tradicin en el panorama internacional del arte contemporneo. Sin duda, contribuye a fortalecer la imagen de Madrid en el exterior

En el Consistorio de Madrid tenemos muy presente la importancia de esta feria para la proyeccin de una imagen cosmopolita, abierta y dinmica de Madrid. Por ello, colaboramos con ARCOmadrid desde su nacimiento, facilitando espacios y recursos para las actividades que complementan y enriquecen la oferta artstica de la feria a lo largo y ancho de toda la ciudad.

Fomentar y estimular el coleccionismo es uno de los grandes desafos promovidos por ARCOmadrid, que contar siempre con todo nuestro aplauso y apoyo. Desde el Ayuntamiento, conscientes de la trascendencia del coleccionismo en la conservacin y difusin del arte, estamos promoviendo un ciclo de exposiciones bajo el epgrafe El mecenazgo al servicio del arte, que pretende dar a conocer las mejores colecciones privadas de Espaa y destacar su papel en la salvaguarda de nuestro ingente patrimonio artstico.

Las exposiciones presentadas en CentroCentro-Cibeles, como El legado de la Casa de Alba, la coleccin de Helga de Alvear o la dedicada actualmente a la coleccin Masaveu, forman parte de nuestra labor de reconocimiento al coleccionismo, objetivo que compartimos con ARCOmadrid y que siempre ha sido fundamental en la trayectoria de la feria.

ARCOmadrid cumple el cometido esencial de garantizar la continua renovacin de los contenidos artsticos y asegurar la proyeccin internacional de nuestros nuevos creadores. Espaa es una potencia cultural de primer orden, y el prestigio que esto supone se mide tambin por nuestra capacidad de renovar y fortalecer nuestra presencia en los circuitos internacionales del arte contemporneo.

Once again, the International Fair of Contemporary Art, now in its thirty-third edition, takes privileged place at IFEMA. ARCOmadrid is presented as one of the most representative international platforms and a meeting point for the distribution, promotion and dissemination of contemporary art.

This commitment to art represents one of the best targets for investment, as it offers a safe bet of increasing value for individuals and businesses. That is why ARCOmadrid is presented as the best way to boost a sector that complements its pronounced economic nature with other values, such as the promotion of culture and knowledge, by giving priority to the marketing of works of art as well as raising the international profile of art galleries and artists.

This edition features a notable artist and gallery programme based on quality, where ARCOmadrid emphasises the importance of fostering relations between people to allow the continuous development of the art sector. In addition, it is essential to highlight ARCOmadrids work as one of the nerve centres for get-togethers between all collectors and professionals visiting this event, as well as its efforts to show art-lovers the best works and artists.

In so doing and thanks to cooperation between IFEMA and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry the Spanish capital will become the epicentre of modern creation and cultural exchange during this five-day event, offering a commitment to the creation of artistic heritage through art collecting and in a context where galleries, artists and other professionals can expand their horizons.

We at the Chamber of Commerce are holding initiatives launched under the auspices of this event, representing an opening up to international markets and a praiseworthy increase in the quality of the proposal. This edition of the International Fair of Contemporary Art is presented as one of the major events in the international calendar, and for this reason we would like to thank all the professionals, institutions and participants who have made it possible for ARCOmadrid to maintain its innovative, revitalising nature in the world of art.

La Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporneo vuelve a ocupar un lugar privilegiado en IFEMA en su trigsimo tercera edicin. ARCOmadrid se presenta como una de las plataformas internacionales ms representativas y como punto de encuentro para la distribucin, promocin y divulgacin del arte contemporneo.

Esta apuesta por el arte supone uno de los mejores destinos de inversin, ya que constituye un valor seguro y en alza para particulares y empresas. Por ello, ARCOmadrid se presenta como la mejor manera de dinamizar un sector que complementa su marcado carcter econmico con otros valores como la promocin de la cultura y el conocimiento, priorizando la comercializacin de obras de arte junto con la proyeccin internacional de las galeras y sus artistas.

En esta edicin destaca un programa artstico y galerstico basado en la calidad, donde ARCOmadrid pone de relevancia la importancia de fomentar las relaciones entre aquellas personas que hacen posible el continuo desarrollo del mercado del arte. De este modo, durante los cinco das en que se desarrolla este evento y gracias a la colaboracin entre IFEMA y la Cmara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid, la capital de Espaa se convierte en el epicentro de la creacin actual y del intercambio cultural, con una apuesta por la creacin de patrimonio artstico a travs del coleccionismo y en un contexto en el que galeras, artistas y dems profesionales pueden expandir sus horizontes.

Desde la Cmara de Comercio celebramos las iniciativas puestas en marcha por el certamen, las cuales han supuesto una apertura al mercado internacional junto con un loable aumento en la calidad de la propuesta. De modo que esta edicin de la Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporneo se presenta como unos de los encuentros mejor valorados del calendario cultural internacional y es por ello por lo que queremos dar las gracias a todos los profesionales, instituciones y participantes que hacen posible que ARCOmadrid mantenga su carcter innovador y dinamizador del mercado del arte.

The Caja Madrid Special Foundation would like to congratulate the organisers of ARCOmadrid 2014 for their innovative initiatives. Thanks to those initiatives, the Fair is going beyond its industrial goals, offering opportunities for development to professionals linked to the sector: critics, curators and scholars. It is also creating collaboration and exchange networks and offering support to organisations taking part in the fringe programme.

This year, the Caja Madrid Special Foundation is pleased to present a cycle of films on the artist and film director Erkki Kurenniemi at La Casa Encendida during the month of February. His work as a pioneer in electronic music, as a multimedia artist and as an experimental film director is virtually unknown in Spain. Thanks to the Frame organisation, which promotes visual arts in Finland, the guest country at this edition of ARCOmadrid, we can now make his work available to the public here.

Kurenniemis creative capacity has been developed in several disciplines, in the gaps between contemporary forms of practice, and in that regard, it could be said that we were spot on to present his works at La Casa Encendida, a centre that makes every effort to accommodate all modern creative art forms. We are also presenting a documentary on Mika Taanilas work, finding room for the work of another film director who has taken over from him for the next generation, rounding off with a programme on Finnish audiovisual creation.

Returning to the initiatives launched by the organisers, I should like to highlight the new Artists Talks cycle we are also taking part in, playing host to the artist Dan Graham. This new activity promoted by ARCOmadrid aims to disseminate the work and creative processes of a selection of artists present at the fair, by facilitating contact between the artists and the public of Madrid.

The Caja Madrid Special Foundation is joining forces with many Spanish institutions to take part in ARCOmadrid, through Fair-themed activities and the support for youth art we have constantly been providing. One example of this is the Generaciones competition which has become, after twelve years, a benchmark in Spanish contemporary art. We are confident that the collectors and gallery-owners invited by ARCOmadrid will be fascinated by this exhibition which we are presenting once again to mark the fair and able to cooperate with us in supporting artists, so that economic circumstances do not prevent them from continuing to develop their talent.

CARMEN CAFRANGA CAVESTANYPRESIDENTA FUNDACIN ESPECIAL CAJA MADRIDCHAIR OF THE CAJA MADRID SPECIAL FOUNDATION

Desde la Fundacin Especial Caja Madrid queremos felicitar un ao ms a la organizacin de ARCOmadrid 2014 por sus innovadoras iniciativas. A travs de ellas la feria va ms all de sus objetivos industriales, ofrece oportunidades de desarrollo a los profesionales relacionados con el sector: crticos, comisarios y estudiosos, crea redes de colaboracin e intercambio y ofrece soporte a las instituciones que participamos del programa paralelo.

Este ao la Fundacin Especial Caja Madrid se congratula de presentar un ciclo de proyecciones dedicadas al artista y cineasta Erkki Kurenniemi en La Casa Encendida, durante todo el mes de febrero. Su trabajo como pionero de la msica electrnica, artista multimedia y cineasta experimental es prcticamente indito en Espaa. Gracias a la organizacin Frame, que promueve las artes visuales en Finlandia, pas invitado en esta edicin de ARCOmadrid, podremos acercar al pblico su labor.

La capacidad creativa de Kurenniemi se ha desarrollado en diversas disciplinas, en los intersticios de las prcticas contemporneas, y en este sentido podra decirse que es acertado presentarlo en La Casa Encendida, un centro que intenta dar cabida a todas las formas de creacin actual. Asimismo, presentamos un documental de Mika Taanila sobre su trabajo, dando cabida a la obra de otro cineasta que toma el relevo generacional completando un programa dedicado a la creacin audiovisual finlandesa.

Volviendo a las iniciativas planteadas por la organizacin, quisiera destacar el nuevo ciclo Artists Talks, en el que participamos asimismo recibiendo al artista Dan Graham. Esta nueva actividad promovida por ARCOmadrid pretende divulgar la obra y los procesos creativos de una seleccin de artistas presentes en la feria, facilitando el contacto entre los creadores y el pblico madrileo.

As pues, la Fundacin Especial Caja Madrid se suma al esfuerzo de muchas instituciones espaolas por estar presentes en ARCOmadrid, tanto a travs de las actividades presentadas en torno a la feria, como del apoyo al arte joven que venimos realizando de manera constante. Ejemplo de ello es el concurso Generaciones que, tras doce aos de andadura, se ha convertido en referente del arte contemporneo espaol. Confiamos en que los coleccionistas y galeristas invitados por ARCOmadrid encuentren esta exposicin que presentamos nuevamente coincidiendo con la feria de su inters y puedan colaborar con nosotros en el apoyo a los creadores, para que las circunstancias econmicas no impidan que sus talentos continen desarrollndose.

For everyone in IFEMA it is with great satisfaction that we present the 33rd edition of ARCOmadrid, one of the most emblematic and established events in our calendar of events. Since its inception in 1982, IFEMAs single goal has been creating a sound platform for art as well as promoting, researching and publicising contemporary art. Now, more than three decades later, we can feel proud of our contribution and support for participating galleries having invigorated the art market.

Once again, the Madrid fair throws its doors open to receive some of the best galleries on the international scene. An edition in which Finland will be a key player, due to its status as Guest Country, with the participation of 13 Finnish galleries and a dozen excellent exhibitions in Madrid, which offer a complete overview of the countrys artistic creativity. I would like to take the opportunity to recognise Frame Visual Art Finland for its professionalism and hard work as the main driving force behind the #FocusFinland program, as well as the collaboration of Team Finland: the Finnish Embassy to Spain, Latin American Institute of Finland and the Finland Trade Centre (Finpro).

Through ARCOmadrid we at IFEMA strive to provide professionals all the means, necessary tools and the best context for them to carry out their work in optimal conditions and get the most out of their participation. This requires that we introduce new value-added initiatives every year, including professional meetings and wide-reaching forums to help tackle new challenges.

The IFEMA fairground is strategically located in Madrid and is well connected, adding even more value to this great event. Moreover, attending professionals can enjoy the vast selection of attractive cultural, gastronomic and leisure activities in Spains capital, a city that has risen to fourth place in the latest ICCA ranking of cities hosting the most international conferences.

Para todos los que conformamos IFEMA es una satisfaccin presentar la 33 edicin de ARCOmadrid, una de las ferias ms emblemticas y consolidadas de nuestro calendario ferial. Desde su nacimiento en 1982, IFEMA no ha perseguido otro objetivo que el de la creacin de una slida plataforma de arte, adems del fomento, la investigacin y divulgacin del arte contemporneo. Hoy, ms de tres dcadas despus, podemos sentirnos orgullosos por esta contribucin, y consecuentemente, haber apoyado a las galeras participantes y con ello a la dinamizacin del mercado del arte.

Un ao ms, la Feria de Madrid abre sus puertas para recibir algunas de las mejores galeras del panorama internacional. Una edicin en la que Finlandia tendr un especial protagonismo por su presencia como pas invitado con la participacin de 13 galeras finlandesas y una decena de excelentes exposiciones en Madrid, lo que ofrecer un completo panorama de la creacin artstica del pas. Desde estas lneas agradezco la profesionalidad y trabajo de Frame Visual Art Finland, como principal institucin impulsora del programa #FocusFinland, as como la colaboracin de Team Finland Embajada de Finlandia en Espaa, Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia y la Oficina Comercial de Finlandia (Finpro).

ARCOmadrid is undoubtedly one of the great symbols of contemporary culture, and one of the finest examples of Spains high profile on the international art scene. A driving force of modernity and the avant-garde which has helped to position Madrid as one of the worlds most active cultural cities.

For the last 33 years, ARCOmadrid has been an accredited meeting point for gallerists, art professionals and collectors, who have found this fair to be the best setting for sharing ideas, dialogue and thoughts on the international art scene. Throughout its history, the International Contemporary Art Fair has demonstrated its growing importance as an excellent driving force for art in Spain, through promoting current creation and providing a solid platform for the art market.

Once again, IFEMA is contributing its experience and know-how to achieve the quality and prestige that have been the distinguishing features of ARCOmadrid for more than three decades. From 19 to 23 February, Halls 7 and 9 of Feria de Madrid will become modern spaces for the latest trends, offering the art world innovative creative projects. The city of Madrid is a partner in this event, hosting an extensive programme of activities and events for all lovers of contemporary art.

One of the most notable is the exhibition Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma de paisaje (The obsessive as a form of landscape), showing a selection from the 250-plus works of art in the Fundacin ARCO Collection, at the Centro de Arte de Alcobendas, a magnificent space which has become in just three years a reference point for the fine arts, music and literature in the Community of Madrid.

The effort of organising Spains largest art fair focuses each year on offering the best exhibition experience, but also on providing a meeting place for all professionals in the art world. The Forum, the Professional Meetings and other activities offered by ARCOmadrid attract collectors, critics, curators and other cultural professionals to the Fair. Thanks to these initiatives, ARCOmadrid is now an essential platform for the exchange and debate on contemporary art practices.

ARCOmadrid es indudablemente uno de los grandes smbolos de la cultura contempornea, y uno de los mejores exponentes de la proyeccin que ha cobrado Espaa en la escena artstica internacional. Un motor de vanguardia y modernidad que ha contribuido a situar a Madrid como una de las ms activas ciudades culturales del mundo.

Desde hace 33 aos, ARCOmadrid se ha convertido en un acreditado punto de encuentro para galeristas, profesionales del arte y coleccionistas que han encontrado en esta feria el mejor escenario para el intercambio, el dilogo y la reflexin en torno al panorama internacional del arte. Durante su trayectoria, la Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporneo ha dado muestras de su creciente peso como excelente dinamizador de la actividad artstica en nuestro pas, a travs de la promocin de la creacin actual y de la configuracin de una slida plataforma para el mercado del arte.

Una vez ms, IFEMA pone toda su experiencia y saber hacer para alcanzar la calidad y el prestigio que desde hace ms de tres dcadas han sido seas de identidad de ARCOmadrid. Desde el 19 al 23 de febrero, los pabellones 7 y 9 de la Feria de Madrid se convierten en modernos espacios de tendencias donde los agentes del mundo del arte tendrn a su disposicin proyectos creativos innovadores. Todo ello con Madrid como cmplice que, al tiempo, acoger un amplio programa de actividades y eventos para todos los amantes del arte contemporneo.

En esta lnea, quisiera destacar la exposicin Variation. Lo obsesivo como forma de paisaje, una muestra que se plantea como un recorrido por una seleccin de entre las ms de doscientas cincuenta piezas que forman parte de los fondos de la Coleccin Fundacin ARCO, y que acoge el Centro de Arte de Alcobendas, un magnfico espacio que se ha posicionado, en tan solo tres aos, en referencia para las artes plsticas, la msica y las letras en la Comunidad de Madrid.

El esfuerzo organizativo de la mayor feria de arte de nuestro pas se centra, cada ao, en ofrecer la mejor propuesta expositiva, pero tambin en actuar como punto de encuentro de todos los profesionales del mundo del arte. En este sentido, el Foro, los Encuentros Profesionales y dems actividades que ARCOmadrid pone en marcha, fomentan la presencia en la feria de coleccionistas, crticos, comisarios y dems profesionales del mundo de la cultura. Gracias a estas iniciativas ARCOmadrid se postula como una plataforma esencial para el intercambio y el debate sobre la actuacin artstica contempornea.

Con todo ello, esta nueva edicin de ARCOmadrid supone el mejor escenario para adentrarse en el mundo de la creacin actual y para conocer de cerca el mercado del arte, con el gran valor aadido que aporta la presencia de todos los profesionales que se dan cita en la f eria. En definitiva, Madrid acoge una vez ms uno de los encuentros ms completos del panorama artstico internacional.

The excellent record of ARCOmadrid has made this event one of the icons of Spanish culture, thanks to its quality and international appeal, and thanks to IFEMAs determination from the start to make this Fair a benchmark for the art market and one of the most important showcases for Spains avant-garde art.

Collectors, critics, gallerists, conservators, curators and directors of the worlds leading museums and art centres participate each year in this prestigious showcase of art trends and movements. Similarly, the high numbers of art-lovers visiting the Fair each year on the days open to the general public demonstrate the interest in the art market of a society which is increasingly cosmopolitan, modern and open to creativity.

In this edition, ARCOmadrid is continuing the art programmes introduced last year the General Programme, Solo Projects and Opening - and adding #FocusFinland in honour of our Guest Country, and the new initiative SOLO/DUO, in which some 60 galleries will present one or two artists in order to strengthen ARCOmadrids role as a Fair for discovering new artists and investigating their work.

This commitment to discovering and exploring artists work has led to intensified research efforts by ARCOmadrids 150 curators and guest professionals. Another new initiative, Artists Talks, directed by Mara Ins Rodrguez, the future director of CAPC at Bordeaux, will become a space for discussion and reflection on the work on show at the Fair through transversal conversations with artists.

We should not forget that ARCOmadrid is also, once again, making the Spanish capital become the international centre of contemporary art throughout February, with some of the most interesting collections opening in the city, such as the Fundacin ARCO collection at Centro De Arte Alcobendas; Grazyna Kulczyk Collection, at Sala de Arte Santander; the Jozami Collection at Fundacin Lzaro Galdiano, the Telefnica Collection, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa. The Guest Country is also making a major effort to present Finnish contemporary art with more than 10 exhibitions and workshops by Finnish artists in Madrid, such as the show by Kustaa Saksi at CentroCentro; a screening by Aki Kaurismki at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa, and Residencias El Ranchito with Finnish artists at Matadero. Other leading museums will also be hosting important exhibitions, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza with its first monographic exhibition on Czanne.

IFEMA is eagerly awaiting the opening of the 33rd edition of ARCOmadrid, one of the institutions most iconic events, which will once again bring the renewing energy of avant-garde to Madrid.

La excelente trayectoria de ARCOmadrid ha convertido este encuentro en uno de los grandes smbolos de la cultura espaola, gracias a la calidad e internacionalizacin de sus propuestas y a la dedicacin que, desde sus orgenes, ha realizado IFEMA para convertir esta feria en un destacado referente del mercado del arte.

Coleccionistas, crticos, galeristas, conservadores, comisarios y directores de los principales museos y centros de arte del mundo participan cada ao en el certamen, tomando el pulso al arte reunido en este prestigioso escaparate de tendencias. De la misma manera, el elevado volumen de aficionados que cada ao asiste a la feria en los das dirigidos al pblico en general deja constancia del inters que despierta el mercado del arte en una sociedad cada vez ms abierta a la creatividad, ms cosmopolita y moderna.

En esta edicin, ARCOmadrid apuesta por la continuidad de los programas artsticos presentados en la pasada edicin Programa General, Solo Projects y Opening a los que se suman #FocusFinland, como pas invitado, y la nueva iniciativa SOLO/DUO, la cual estar formada por alrededor de 60 galeras que presentan uno o dos artistas con el objetivo de reforzar ARCOmadrid como feria de descubrimiento de artistas e investigacin de su obra.

Esta apuesta por el descubrimiento y la profundizacin en la obra de los artistas ha llevado a intensificar la labor de investigacin realizada por los ms de 150 comisarios y profesionales invitados a ARCOmadrid. En la misma lnea, arranca otra iniciativa, Artists Talks que, dirigida por M. Ins Rodrguez futura directora de CAPC de Burdeos, se convertir en un espacio de reflexin alrededor de obras presentes en la feria mediante diferentes dilogos transversales con artistas.

No debemos olvidar adems que ARCOmadrid vuelve a convertir la capital espaola en el centro del arte contemporneo internacional durante el mes de febrero con algunas de las colecciones ms interesantes que se abren a la ciudad, como la de la Fundacin ARCO, en el Centro de Arte Alcobendas; Grazyna Kulczyk Collection, en la Sala de Arte Santander; la Coleccin Jozami, en la Fundacin Lzaro Galdiano, la Coleccin Telefnica y la del Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa. De la misma manera, el pas invitado realiza un importante esfuerzo por presentar el arte contemporneo finlands con ms de diez exposiciones y talleres de artistas finlandeses en Madrid, como la muestra de Kustaa Saksi, en CentroCentro; la proyeccin de Aki Kaurismki, en el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa, y Residencias El Ranchito con artistas finlandeses, en Matadero. ARCOmadrid, the prestigious contemporary art fair held every year in February, has great reputation and international impact; also in Finland. So it is not surprising that the proposal of Finland taking part in ARCOmadrid 2014 as guest country was enthusiastically accepted. Finnish contemporary art is very enthusiastic about its event in Madrid. We know only too well that ARCOmadrid is a major international forum that stirs great interest among connoisseurs and collectors worldwide. The fair provides excellent opportunities to promote professional contacts between Finland and Spain and opening up contacts between experts and enthusiasts from around the world.

The Finnish art scene has been gaining international recognition and new Finnish creators are arousing increasing interest beyond our borders. Frame Visual Art Finland is in charge of organising the official participation of all the Finnish galleries, which are attending the event in Madrid, as well as the #FocusFinland hall. The coordinator of the Finnish proposal is an expert in the field, Leevi Haapala, the artistic curator for Kiasma, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. Haapala has selected a group of artists, made up of established creators as well as new talent, to faithfully represent the good times Finnish creativity has currently been enjoying.

ARCOmadrid 2014 also offers the possibility of discovering Finnish art and Finnish arts education with greatest amplitude among the Madrid public. The Ibero-American Institute of Finland in Madrid is organising, in collaboration with our embassy, a series of activities in cultural centres and leading galleries in the capital until April. The Institute carries out very valuable work, which deserves our thanks. Among the events there is an exchange of resident artists at Matadero Madrid, an exhibition of digital animation by two pioneering creators at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque, textile sculpture at CentroCentro, cutting edge films at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Queen Sofa and much more.

Delving deep into the artistic content of this large sample of Finnish art is for the experts, but I for one would like to point out that it is really a great honour for Finland to be the guest country at ARCOmadrid 2014. We are very grateful for the opportunity given to us to exhibit at this prestigious international contemporary art event. We face this challenge with enthusiasm and are confident it will bring positive results for future collaborations. I invite everyone to attend our events to learn about the current situation of Finnish Art. I can guarantee you are going to see very interesting pieces.

ARCOmadrid, la prestigiosa feria de arte contemporneo que se celebra todos los aos en el mes de febrero, tiene gran renombre y repercusin internacional. Tambin en Finlandia. Por ello, no es de extraar que la propuesta de que Finlandia participara en ARCOmadrid 2014 como pas invitado fuera aceptada con mucho entusiasmo. El arte contemporneo finlands acude con ganas a su cita en Madrid. Sabemos de sobra, que ARCOmadrid es un importante foro internacional, que suscita gran inters entre conocedores y coleccionistas de todo el mundo. La feria brinda excelentes oportunidades para fomentar contactos entre profesionales de Finlandia y Espaa, as como de entablarlas con expertos y aficionados procedentes de todo el mundo.

El panorama artstico finlands ha ido ganando reconocimiento internacional y los nuevos creadores finlandeses despiertan cada vez ms inters fuera de nuestras fronteras. Frame, el Centro para las Artes Visuales de Finlandia, es el encargado de organizar la participacin oficial de todas las galeras finlandesas, que acuden a la cita en Madrid, as como del pabelln de #FocusFinland. El coordinador de la propuesta finlandesa es un experto en la materia, Leevi Haapala, comisario artstico de Kiasma, Museo de Arte Contemporneo de Helsinki. Haapala ha seleccionado a un conjunto de artistas, tanto creadores consagrados como nuevos talentos, para representar de forma fidedigna el buen momento que vive la creatividad finlandesa en la actualidad.

ARCOmadrid 2014 nos ofrece, adems, la posibilidad de dar a conocer el arte finlands y la educacin finlandesa en el rea de las artes con ms amplitud entre el pblico madrileo. El Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia en Madrid organiza, en colaboracin con nuestra Embajada, una serie de actividades en centros culturales y galeras de primer orden de la capital hasta el mes de abril. El instituto lleva a cabo una labor muy valiosa, que merece todo nuestro agradecimiento. Entre los eventos hay un intercambio de artistas residentes en Matadero Madrid, una exposicin de animacin digital de dos creadores punteros en el Centro Cultural Conde Duque, escultura textil en CentroCentro, pelculas de primera fila en el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa y mucho ms.

Profundizar en el contenido artstico de esta gran muestra de arte finlands corresponde a los expertos, pero por mi parte quisiera puntualizar que para Finlandia es realmente un gran honor ser pas invitado en ARCOmadrid 2014. Los finlandeses estamos muy agradecidos por la oportunidad que se nos brinda de presentarnos en este prestigioso escenario internacional de arte contemporneo. Afrontamos este gran reto con entusiasmo y estamos seguros de que traer consigo muchos frutos para colaboraciones futuras.
