Capdell cumple 50 y nuestra colaboración acaba de cumplir 5.En 2012 empezamos a trabajar juntos, en lo que se convirtió en la familia desillas Concord, introducidas en el año 2013.

Diez por ciento de la vida de Capdell no es mucho. Pero en este tiempoque nos hemos ido conociendo, ha sido el suciente para sentirnos parte

de la familia. Como una empresa familiar que es. Pese a su arte en lafabricación del mobiliario, sus impresionantes instalaciones en Valencia ysu organización profesional; el amiente es cálido, amable y personal.Desde el trabajo con Concord, además, hemos completado satisfactoriamenteotros proyectos de diseños juntos, incluyendo el sillón Plum, la mesa Gazellela silla Miró y la mesa Tri-Star. Y esto es solo el principio.

Capdell turns 50 and our collaboration turns ve.In 2012, we started the work together on what was to become the Concordfamily of chairs, introduced the following year 2013.Ten percent of Capdell’s life so far is not much. But this time that we’ve knowneach other has for us been long enough to feel as part of the family. Because afamily company it is. Despite the state-of-the-art furniture production, despitethe impressive facilities in Valencia, despite the professional organisation –the whole ambience is warm, kind, personal.Since the work with the Concord we have successfully completed a numberof design projects together, including the Plum armchair, the Gazelle tablethe Miro chair and the Tri-Star table. En Copenhague, y sentado en un taburete tradicional de diseño anónimodanés, recibí un correo del Consejero Salvador Villalba solicitándome untexto sobre el proyecto Capdell. Casual y curioso que ese día acababa de

estar en el Museo del Diseño Danés.Había visitado la legendaria sala: 110 sillas, y su colección icónica, donde seven en perspectiva los diseños daneses en contraste con otros internacionalesUna completa historia del asiento, donde las diferentes culturas maniestan

su creatividad.En la vida es permanente el uso de sillas y mesas. En casa, en la escuela, enel restaurante, en el bar, en los juegos, en la universidad, en la ocina o en los

viajes… y en estos escenarios encuentro a Capdell.

Veo sus sillas y mesas, que hablan de su recorrido y evolución; de su tiempode sus diseñadores y de las historias que han vivido.Ellas hablan de la tradición ebanista de Valencia, de la evolución de lasillería allí donde se fundó Capdell, que a través de siglos de historia estápresente hoy en todos los continentes.Veo a Capdell comprometido con el diseño, con la cultura y el gusto por eltrabajo bien hecho, cultivando un sentido contemporáneo que no olvida latradición de la ebanistería.

Alcanzar 50 años produciendo sillas es un logro que solo se consigue cuandoexiste equipo de diseño y de proyecto industrial. Sumarme como diseñadoral proyecto de Capdell, donde se vive la pasión por el diseño, me alegra eilusiona después de mi largo recorrido como diseñador, editor y productor.Pensar en la marca Capdell es pensar en diseño y en producto bien hecho,… Es pensar en continuar sentando historias.

In Copenhagen and sitting on a traditional anonymous Danish stool, I receivedan email from Councilor Salvador Villalba requesting a text about the Capdelproject. Casual and curious that day I was just in the Museum of Danish

Design,visiting the legendary hall: 110 chairs, and its iconic collection, where Danishdesigns are seen in perspective in contrast to other international ones. Acomplete history of the seating, where dierent cultures manifest theircreativity.In life, it’s permanent the use of chairs and tables. At home, at school, at therestaurant, at the bar, at games, at university, at the oice or on the trips ..and in all these circumstances I meet Capdell.

I see their chairs and tables, which speak of their course and evolution; Oftheir time, of their designers and of the histories that they have had.They speak about the evolution of the chairs throughout centuries of historyabout the cabinetmaking tradition of Valencia, where Capdell was foundedwhich is present today in all continents.I see Capdell committed to design, culture and a taste for work well donecultivating a contemporary sense that does not forget the tradition ofcarpentry.

Reaching 50 years of producing chairs is an achievement that can only beachieved when there is a design and industrial project team. As a designerjoining the Capdell project, where the passion for design is alive, I am delightedand proud following my long journey as a designer, publisher and producer.Thinking about the Capdell brand is to think about design and well-made

El diseño en el sentido amplio, o más exactamente el acto de crear, antetodo es para mi el fruto de un encuentro: un diseñador y una empresa.La calidad de mis creaciones descansa sobre esta complicidad entre mi

trabajo y la fábrica.Desde casi dos años, Capdell y yo hemos empezado los intercambiosnuestras trayectorias, nuestras visiones en la manera de entender la historiade Capdell, el análisis y la búsqueda de cómo vamos a asociar nuestrascompetencias.Entender las necesidades y las apuestas que justican el nuevo proyecto.

Rápidamente una relación de conanza y de escucha mutua se ha implantado

entre nosotros.

Un primer punto en común: la Calidad.Más que una empresa, Capdell es un equipo, una familia diría yo, un arte devivir que “huele bien a España”.Es para mi una gran felicidad poder compartir y trabajar en estas condicionesMuchas veces me preguntan dónde encuentro mi inspiración. Claro, escontextual, pero precisamente pienso que viene de la calidad de los hombresimplicados en el proyecto.Sin eso, mi investigación seria imposible.

Este año en Milán, hemos presentado juntos el fruto de esta primeracolaboración.Para los próximos 50 años, deseo a Capdell seguir su camino manteniendo susentido de la apertura de visión, lo que a mi parecer, es una de sus múltiplesriquezas.

The design in the broad sense, or more precisely the act of creating, isprimarily for me the fruit of a relationship: a designer and a company.The quality of my creations rests on this complicity between my work and the

Uno de los principios del diseño es mejorar la vida de la gente. Para llegarahí, un diseñador puede elegir muchos caminos.Solo existe uno para hacer bien las cosas para los demás: conseguir mejorar

también la vida de la gente con la que trabajas.Llevo muchos años haciendo proyectos. Eso me ha enseñado que no hay unamirada única que te acompaña en la travesía, sino innitas formas de vivir el

diseño de un objeto. No me reero a la búsqueda de la mejor solución para que

funcione en cada caso, que en eso cada cual tiene una hoja de ruta que sueleser más o menos constante. Hablo de recompensas personales, de lo que vasrecolectando en cada recorrido. Y en ese sentido, la forma de enfrentarte aello es interminable: hay enfoques que son “egoístas”, proyectos en los que te

embarcas porque te empeñas en que es un trabajo para ti; hay otros mucho másdesinteresados, a veces incluso lantrópicos, con los que consigues realmente

dar un paso y ayudar a mejorar el entorno o la vida de personas desfavorecidaslos hay económicos, cuando un proyecto se convierte en una oportunidad paramejorar tus recursos y poder nanciar otros proyectos; los hay que son una

aventura, no sabes cómo empiezan y ni te imaginas cómo terminan…Pero de todos los caminos por los que transito, el que más me interesa es ese quehace que, a través del diseño, consigas hacer feliz a quien te hace el encargo y

al equipo que interviene en el trabajo. Ese es mi gran premio como diseñador.El retorno de un proyecto no se limita a una cuestión material, sino que larecompensa consiste en sentirte parte de un equipo y en recibir una amistadprofesional, que algunas veces termina convirtiéndose en una familiaespecial. Este valor, que la prisa o la ambición, o la falta de comunicación,desdibujan muchas veces en casi todos los ocios, es, además de otras cosas

buenísimas, la parte más emocionante en mi relación con Capdell. Desde elprimer encuentro me he sentido abrazado por un grupo de personas que leponen tanta pasión a lo que hacen, y con quién lo hacen, que me parece quellevo toda la vida trabajando con ellos.

One of the principles of design is to improve people’s lives. To get therea designer can choose many paths. There is only one to do things well forothers: to improve the lives of the people you work with.

I’ve been doing projects for many years. I learnt that there is not a single lookthat accompanies you in the journey, but innite ways of living the design ofan object. I do not mean looking for the best solution to work in each case. refer that each one has a roadmap that is usually more or less constant.I am talking about personal rewards, what you are collecting each time.And in that sense, the way to deal with it is endless: there are approachesthat are “selsh”, projects in which you embark because you insist that it isa job for you; There are others much more disinterested, sometimes even

philanthropic, with which you really manage to step up and help improve theenvironment or the life of disadvantaged people; There are economic oneswhen a project becomes an opportunity to improve your resources and to beable to nance other projects;There are those that are an adventure, you do not know how they start andyou cannot imagine how they end ... But of all the roads through which transit, the one that interests me most is the one that makes it possiblethrough design, to make happy the person who makes the order and the

team involved in the work. That’s my big award as a designer.The return of a project is not limited to a material issue, but the reward is tofeel part of a team and receive a professional friendship, which sometimesends up becoming a special family. This value, which the haste or ambitionor the lack of communication, blurred many times in almost all trades, is, inaddition to other great things, the most exciting part in my relationship withCapdell. From the rst meeting I felt embraced by a group of People who puso much passion to what they do, and with whom they do, that it seems to methat I have been working with them all my life.
