    LYRICS:

Bangon, kilos, sugod, panahon na, kay Chiz na

    tayo

    NARRATION:

Political jingles are being heard once again as

    the election season kicks off.

Campaign veterans know that tickling the

voters ears with catchy tunes is a sure way to

    stay in their minds.

Some political jingles are so appealing that

people recall them years after the elections are

    over.

And every campaign season, composers like

Lloyd Luna are tasked to come up with jinglesthat the public will easily remember.

LUNA: Yung candidates They would want

to associate themselves with the music para

pagdating ng halalan, pag narinig ng mga tao

yung music, madali silang maisulat sa balota.

    NARRATION:

Luna says a popular trend during the elections

is for composers to write jingles based on

popular songs even if the lyrics and melodydont match.

LUNA: Hindi lahat ng lyrics bumabagay sa

melody or rhythm ng song. Yung melody, yun

yung harmony nya. Dapat maganda yung flow.

    Hindi pinilit.

For example, Gangnam. Ipipilit at ipipilit yung

lyrics. Minsan hindi na tama, ipipilit nilang

    ipasok yung lyrics kasi nga

    kailangangmagsakto siya sa kanta ng

    Gangnam.

    NARRATION:

And although a jingle can make a candidates

name easier to recall, a catchy tune does not

always translate to success at the polls.

    elections

LUNA: Sila yung may hawak ng mensahe.

Andito lang kami para magbigay ng music at

para mas gawing effective yung campaign nila.

But we are not introducing new ideas dun sa

    campaign.

Music is just a component of your entire

campaign. At the end of the day, titingnan pa

rin ng mga tao ang kandidato. Pwedeng ma-

LSS sila, pero kung nakakaasar ka naman

talaga. Kasi mayroong ganoon eh, LSS pero sa

pangit na pagka-LSS. In other words, mare-

    recall kita,

and Im sure that mare-recall kita that Im not

    going to vote for you.

    NARRATION:

A catchy jingle might cause voters to chant a

politicians name, but their vote will ultimately

go to the candidate whom they think is more

    deserving.

    This is Xianne Arcangel reporting.
