Why we did thisHigh level objectives
Build advanced new radio services
Drive reach, appreciation, listening
Assess listener desire for interaction
Do it on a real radio
Work with the industry

What we didFramed our research: aim of trial:
Design low level bookmarking service
Work with silicon vendor and commercial radio teams
Work with other BBC depts on implementation of tagging
Release alpha service to allow users to tag using a radio, then access tags online/ on mobile

What we didFramed our research: Key deliverables
Test and improve the RadioTAG spec, working closely with others Tech transfer: Demonstrate benefit of RadioDNS technology
Identify uses cases and see if RadioTAG serves these use cases well
Confirm that specs meet BBC standards

What we didFramed our research: Key outputs
To be cutting edge in hybrid radio technology
Prototype tagging service
UX research Find out if this is something people want
Gain a better understanding of security

To begin we talked about the RadioTAG concept
RadioTAG is a brand new concept that aims to link radio listening with the
internet. It allows listeners to interact with radio programmes as they listen and
at the touch of a button. Listeners can bookmark (or ‘tag’) specific bits of a
programme and the station can immediately send back relevant information
about what they’re listening to, whether it’s a show, an advert or music.
Tag could be used to interact live with the DJs and presenters, or to bookmark
something on the radio until the listener wants to carry on listening to it later. If
the listener is registered, the tag could also be stored in an online account,
where they could listen to it later, have it sent to other devices or add it to other
services such as Facebook or iTunes.
In each group we showed respondents this proposition*:
