    onCue IR Learner & Programmer:BPC-HPLIR

IntroductionThe onCue BPC-HPLIR is a dual-function handheld tool designed foruse with the CrestrononCue BPC-8 Basic Presentation Controller. It isboth a full featured IR learner, providing a simple means to learn IRcommands from third-party remotes via the Device Learner tool, as wellas a configuration loader that transfers configuration files created usingthe onCue BPC-8 Tool directly to the BPC-8.

The BPC-HPLIR enables the installer to upload a single configuration toany number of BPC-8 controllers, requiring mere seconds to transfer the

file via a simple optical cable (included). There is no need to remove theBPC-8 from the wall or even remove its faceplate, and one configurationcan be used repeatedly for any number of identically equipped rooms, affording quick and easy setup of each room without any need to carryaround a laptop.

    Setup

InstallationThe only installation procedures required for the BPC-HPLIR are toinsert the supplied 9-Volt battery into the compartment in the rear of theunit, and to connect the supplied fiber cable to the IR Output Couplerport.

    Fiber Cable

To connect supplied fiber cable to the BPC-HPLIR, loosen the output

coupler knob, insert the cut end of the cable, and re-tighten the knob.

To connect the fiber cable to a BPC-8, remove the clear plastic dust capfrom the connector end of the cable. Insert the cable into the optical cable

access port on the lower right of the BPC-8 faceplate. Retain the dust capto protect the cable when not in use.

    Uploading and Upgrading

Crestron recommends using the latest programming software and that

each device contains the latest firmware to take advantage of the mostrecently released features. However, before attempting to upload orupgrade it is necessary to establish communication. Once communicationhas been established, files (for example, programs or firmware) can betransferred to the control system (and/or device). Finally, program checkscan be performed (such as changing the device ID or creating an IP table)to ensure proper functioning.

    Establishing Communication

Use Crestron Toolbox for communicating with the BPC-HPLIR; referto the Crestron Toolbox help file for details. There is a single method ofcommunication: USB communication.

    USB Communication

    USBPC Running

    Crestron ToolboxBPC-HPLIR

TheCOMPUTER port on the BPC-HPLIR connects to the USB port onthe PC via the included Type A to Type B USB cable:

    1. Use the Address Book in Crestron Toolbox to create an entry usingthe expected communication protocol (USB).

    2. Display the BPC-HPLIRs System Info window (click theicon); communications are confirmed when the device informationis displayed.

FirmwareFirmware files may be distributed from programmers to installers or fromCrestron to dealers. Firmware upgrades are available from the CrestronWeb site as new features are developed after product releases. One hasthe option to upload and upgrade via the Crestron Toolbox. For details onuploading and upgrading, refer to the Crestron Toolbox help file.

Crestron BPC-HPLIR onCue IR Learner & Programmer

    Operation

The first step in developing a configuration program for the BPC-8 is to

use the onCue BPC-8 Tool to determine if the device to be controlled isalready contained in the Crestron Database.

If it is not, use the BPC-HPLIR and the Device Learner tool tocreate a new IR file and save it to the User Database, then use theonCue BPC-8 Tool to create the BPC-8 Configuration file. Referto Learning Third-Party IR Codes below.

If it is, use the BPC-HPLIR and the onCue BPC-8 Tool to developa program for the BPC-8. Refer to Developing onCue BPC-8Projects on page 14.

NOTE:The onCue BPC-8 Tool and Device Learner tool softwareprograms are included with Crestron Toolbox, which is available at theCrestron onCue Web site:www.crestron.com/oncuesoftware.

    Learning Third-Party IR Codes

When used in conjunction with an IR learner such as the CrestronBPC-HPLIR, the Device Learner tool allows users to create and testcustom IR driver files, and to save the learned files in the User Databasewhere they can be uploaded to the BPC-HPLIR for subsequent upload tothe BPC-8.

The following paragraphs provide an overview of the functions availablevia the Device Learner tool. For detailed instructions, refer to the DeviceLearner help file.

    Convert IR Pulse Type

You can convert an IR command from "Pulse and Hold" to "Pulse Only"and vice versa. This adjusts the header and repeater sections of the IRcommand to convert the selected button from repeating to non-repeating

    and vice versa.

    Set Minimum Repeats

The minimum repeats setting guarantees that a Pulse and Hold IRcommand will be transmitted the specified number of times, even if thebutton that triggers the command is released quickly.

    Pronto .CCF Data Format

You can learn IR codes by directly entering the data in CCF format.
