ISS Scholarships

What are we looking for?

Citizens from countries in Asia, Oceania, Africa, Central America or South America may apply for full or

partial scholarships for Master's courses. Applicants must demonstrate that their academic and

an engineering degree will not be considered for a course in human rights or peace studies.

Applicants who are enrolled at one of UiO's partner institutions in Central America and South America

may also apply for both full and partial scholarships for Master's courses.

Caucasus and Balkans

Bachelor's courses:

Yes, both full and partial scholarships are available

Master's courses:

Yes, both full and partial scholarships are available

Notes:

Applicants for full or partial scholarships must be citizens of a state in the Caucasus region (Azerbaijan,

Armenia or Georgia), or citizens of the former Yugoslavia (Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina,

Macedonia, Montenegro), or citizens of Albania.

Citizens of EU/EEA member states Slovenia and Croatia may apply for partial scholarships only.

Exception: Rotary Young Friends Scholarship applicants.

Applicants may apply for one Master's course or up to three Bachelor's courses.

Former Soviet Union states

Bachelor's courses:

Yes, both full and partial scholarships are available

Master's courses:

Yes, both full and partial scholarships are available

Notes:

Applicants from the former Soviet Union, whose country is not a current EU member, may apply for both

full and partial scholarships for both Master's and Bachelor's courses. Former Soviet Union states include

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan,

Bachelor's courses:

Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

EU and EEA countries

Bachelor's courses:

Only partial scholarships are available

Master's courses:

Only partial scholarships are available

Notes:

Applicants from EU and EEA countries may apply for a limited number of partial scholarships, for both

Master's and Bachelor's courses.

USA and Canada

Bachelor's courses:

Mostly partial scholarships are available

Master's courses:

Mostly partial scholarships are available

Notes:

A limited number of scholarships, which come mostly from donations and private scholarship funds, are

available to citizens of USA and Canada who apply for Master's and Bachelor's courses. Only on-

campus applicants can apply for scholarships.

The majority of scholarships awarded are partial scholarships, and students should be prepared to cover

a substantial portion of the program fees. The scholarships do not cover travel costs, books/supplies or

personal expenses.

Scandinavian studies scholarships

Bachelor's courses:

Only partial scholarships are available

Master's courses:

No scholarships are available

Notes:

Applicants who study Scandinavian studies at their home university may apply for a partial scholarship

for a relevant course at the ISS.

Applicants who have a strong reason to study in Norway may also apply for a scholarship (e.g.

researchers/students who in their area focus on Scandinavian area studies, but are not themselves

Scandinavianists).

Who CANNOT apply for scholarships awarded by the ISS?

Citizens of Nordic countries

International applicants residing in Nordic countries who apply for Bachelor's courses

Applicants for Bachelor's courses from Asia, Oceania, and Africa

Citizens of EU and EEA countries who apply for full scholarships

Medical professionals applying for Norwegian language courses

Applicants to ISSN0110 Intensive Elementary Norwegian, Level I

Current and former University of Oslo students

Applicants with external funding

If part of your costs are being covered by a source other than the ISS (your employer, school, a private

foundation or company, etc), you may still apply for a partial scholarship from the ISS. Please include this

information in your scholarship form.
