Geographical data

Territory 86,6 thsd. square km 12% of area covered by forests, 4,5% under water, 55,1% -agricultural lands (of which 29,2%- pastures and haymakings), 28,4%-other lands . The country extends between the east longitude 440 and 520 and north latitude 380 and 420, Baku situated in 400

The distance from Baku to North Pole is 5550 km, to equator is 4440 km

Political system Head of the State: President The President is elected by secret vote for seven-years term. In April 11, 2018 Ilham Haydar Aliyev was elected as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, after acquiring of votes of 3 394 898 persons or 86,02% of electorates in the elections. The Legislative Authority of the Republic of Azerbaijan is implemented by the National Assembly (Milli Mejlis) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan consist of 125 deputies. The fourth call an election to the National Assembly was held on November 1, 2015.
