MEANINGAuthentication is the act of confirming the truth or

genuiness of an attribute of an entity. This involves confirming the identity of a person, tracing the origins of an artifact, ensuring that a product is what its claims to be, or assuring that a computer program is a trusted one.

It establishes the authenticity or proves genuiness.

DefinitionAuthentication is the defined as the process of

determining whether someone or something is, in fact, who or what it is declared to be. Authentication is commonly done through the use of logon passwords.

Authentication Factors Ownership factors: Something the user has

(e.g., wrist band, ID card, security token software token)

Knowledge factors: Something the user knows (e.g., a password, pass phrase, identification PIN, challenge response
