AUTHENTICATION

MEANINGAuthentication is the act of confirming the truth or

genuiness of an attribute of an entity. This involves confirming the identity of a person, tracing the origins of an artifact, ensuring that a product is what its claims to be, or assuring that a computer program is a trusted one.

It establishes the authenticity or proves genuiness.

DefinitionAuthentication is the defined as the process of

determining whether someone or something is, in fact, who or what it is declared to be. Authentication is commonly done through the use of logon passwords.

Authentication Factors Ownership factors: Something the user has

(e.g., wrist band, ID card, security token software token)

Knowledge factors: Something the user knows (e.g., a password, pass phrase, identification PIN, challenge response

Inheritance factors: Something the user is or does (e.g., fingerprint, retinal pattern, signature, face, voice etc.)

Authentication Methods1) The first type authentication is accepting proof of

identity given by a credible person which has evidence on the said identity .

2) The second type authentication is comparing the attributes of the object itself to what is known about objects of that origin.
