The Health Camp was conducted to facilitate a process of knowledge transfer to the community health workers who are members of

Youth Club (YC) and Citizens Committee (CC) and help students to understand the real

situation in the rural areas and internalize the necessity of human resources where

marginalized and disadvantage people has no access to quality health services.

Together with the Youth Club members, senior nursing students helped prepare the venue for the health camp.

Senior nursing students preparing the area for BP and other vital signs as well

preparing equipment for BMI, height and weight taking.

The Health Camp

Provided the following services to around 250 adivashi community:

Blood pressure taking Vision testing Height and weight taking – BMI Temperature, respiration, pulse

taking Blood sugar testing Consultation by a doctor Health teachings

This is Arif Tutul, our student who already completed his nursing course and joined us in the camp. Currently, Tutul is hired by BRAC as Clinical Coordinator for the Midwifery department of LAMB Hospital based in Parbatipur, Dinajpur.

Four other students who completed their courses were hired by BRAC and now working as clinical coordinators for Midwifery in Cox’s Bazaar, Mymensigh, and Sylhet.

Jim, our volunteer Nurse faculty, spearheaded the preparation of the health

camp together with Shahed and seven other senior nursing students.

The photographer is Oscar, from the

Netherlands, is also a volunteer and was with us

to document the activity and will use some materials for VSO-

Netherlands’ fund-raising events.

The senior nursing students were assisting clients, who are not able to read and write, to complete the data sheet.

Teaching Youth Club members to teach

Senior nursing student demonstrates proper hand washing technique to the YC participants.

The senior nursing students was able to provide a lecture-workshop to the YC members. At least 22 YC leaders from 5 different villages were able to participate.

Topics discussed during the lecture were on Personal and Home Hygiene (Hand washing and

Bathing), Food Hygiene and Housing Quality.

Our students were able to capture the interests of the participants and engaged them to participate in the discussion and return demonstrate some skills.

After the lecture, the students supervised the participants in coming up with creative ways on how would they teach the topics back to their

villages.
