Hua HinThe oldest and most traditional of all Thai beach resorts. Hua Hin was discovered by Rama VII back in the 20s. when it still was a quiet fishing village and has served as a resort since. Hua Hin is also visited largely by Thais themselves who want to relax on their holiday.

In addition to the beautiful sandy beach that runs almost five kilometers, Hua Hin has traditions going far back in time. The first golf course in Thailand was built in Hua Hin almost 100 years ago “Royal Hua Hin Golf Club“. The Royal Golf Club has since then been joined with further eight other courses. The last of them, “Black Mountain“ have since opening in 2007 hosted three Asian Tour events, including the King’s Cup held in January 2014.

King’s summer residence “Klai Kangwon Palace” (built in 1928) in Hua Hin is a big reason why so many Thais get to Hua Hin for their vacation. The old railway station buildings in Hua Hin was built in the 1920s. Here you also can find the lovely waiting hall building which was built for the royal family and its guests, the most photographed building in Hua Hin?

Besides sunbathing and somersaults on the beach there are leisure activities for the whole family around Hua Hin. You can find everything from water sports to fabulous parks, caves and waterfalls. In the evenings there is many shopping streets with countless stalls and restaurants with a large variety of souvenirs and different food. A cozy area to walk in. Hua Hin beach North

There is five local beaches which are easily reached from the center of Hua Hin if you suddenly get tired of any of them.

Hua Hin BeachHua Hin beach stretches about 7 kilometers from the center of Hua Hin to Khao Takiab (chop stick mountain) and developed significantly over the last 5-10 years. But it is still possible to find quiet places on the beach from the main hotels. From November to February, Hua Hin has the most visitors. During this time people with claustrophobia might visit some another beach. Other months of year, especially when the tide broadens the beach, you will feel that you have big parts to yourself. Its name (Hua Hin - head stone) is derived from the rock formations that can be seen on the northern end of the beach in front of the Hilton Hotel. For those who are adventurous can try pony trekking or Kiting, for those who just want to relax, there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas that create needed shade to rent for 50 Thb . / Day.

Cha-Am BeachCha Am is located in Patcaburi province, about 28 kilometers north from Hua Hin. The beach road is lined by local shops and restaurantson one side and on the other a protective row of trees, the beach and the sea. It is quiet and relaxing during the week and more crowded on weekends with mostly Thais who often come from bangkok since Cha Am is less than 2 hours away. You can have fun on a jet ski , take a ride on a banana boat or just relax in the shade of the trees by the sea. Cha - Am has retained its traditional atmosphere and popularity with locals and other visitors.

Khao Takiab BeachKhao Takiab (chopstick mountain) can be seen about 7 kilometers south of Hua Hin. The cape / rock has a temple (Wat Takiab) on top and with a whole bunch of apes, the mountain is also known as “Monkey Mountain“. The beach at Khao Takiab is actually better behind the hill, where the beach stretches out with calm shallow waters making it ideal for families. Locals sometimes play soccer and volleyball on the broad and flat beach. You may find green songtaews (pickup with dual benches) that drive to Khao Takiab from town for 10-20 baht / person. Motorcycle taxi costs around 50 baht.

Khao Tao BeachKhao Tao is a beautiful and secluded bay about 20 kilometers south of Hua Hin. The beach is often deserted and the delightful seafood restaurants make it a great place for a day trip for those who want to try a new beach. Be a little adventurous and take the local bus to the exit (with sign) at Petchkasem Road. Then take a motorbike taxi or tuk - tuk for the remaining way to the local beaches Had Sai Yai and Had Sai Noi.

Suan Son BeachSuan Son you will find a bit further south, about 15 kilometers from Hua Hin Town. It is named after the many pine trees that are surrounding the beach. A popular spot for locals and you will surely find it difficult to see other westerners here. The beach is usually wide and clean and the sea clear and inviting.

Golf aroundHUA HINGolf arrived to Thailand already for more than 100 years ago and it was in Hua Hin as the first course was completed, “The Royal Hua Hin Golf Club”. The Royal Golf Club is also the closest to Hua Hin town. If you are traveling by train, you can almost fall out from the train wagon and end up on the green. The course is situated just a few meters from Hua Hin ancient railway station.

That the first golf course was built in Hua Hin is not so surprising. The royal family spent their holidays here and with them came the society, those who liked to play golf during the era. Black Mountain is everything you would expect of a world-class golf resort. Not only is the championship course acknowledged as being one of the best in Asia, it is the only course in Thailand ever named in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses Outside the US. Here you will experience golf at its very best in a wonder-ful setting, with sweeping vistas from almost every hole, a challenging yet highly enjoyable design and tour-standard conditioning. Since opening in 2007, Black Mountain has hosted three Asian Tour events, including the 2014 King’s Cup held in January, and has won a string of international awards, including best course in Thailand for the past three years in a row.

Banyan GC opened in 2008. There is a magnificent view on the track over sea and mountains. The view from the short par 3 hole “15” of the sea to the island Sing Toh said to be worth the full green fee. Banyan regarded as a top ten court in Thailand. The design is open parkland-course where the path is lined with groves of pineapple trees that can come into play if you do not stick to the fairway. Strategically placed bunkers that can set some obstacles. This spectacular course gives you a nice challenge from the first tee to the last 18th green. After a round you can enjoy a delicious and drink or grab a bite to eat at the restau-rant’s terrace or Mulligans Pub, which is located in the clubhouse.

This scenic 36 hole course in 1993 with additions in 2006 is a bit inland about 35 minutes from Hua Hin. The original 18-hole course includes small streams and a large lake that split the track in two parts. This, together with old trees, palms and hidden strokes to some greens creates awesome challenges. This in combination with wide undulating fairways and several doglegs provides challenges for low handicappers but the mix of easier holes also provide average golfer potential for good results. The long 14:th, par 3, is particularly tricky with the tee on a small island.

Seapine GC opened in 2010 located about 4 km south of Hua Hin with a fantastic location along the beach. It gives a nice feeling and even some breezes that can cause difficulties. There’s plenty of water on the track. The six first and the last three holes are running along the beach. Seapine golf course belonged to the Thai arm before but now welcomes all green-fee guests. The golf club has a modern relatively new clubhouse.

Sawang Resort & Golf Club

Sawang Resort & Golf Club is located about 1 hour from Hin Hin in neighboring Petchaburi province, a good alternative to the busier resort courses in Hua Hin, favored by the locals. The 27 hole layout with a mixture of both water and tree lined holes. Sawang is an averall enjoyable course with generous fairways that suits most standards of player, but yet offers a few surprises for low handicappers.

Approximately 40 minutes drive south of Hua Hin is Milford Golf Club. The course was designed by Robert McFarland and opened 1992. The panoramic view over the ocean at many places on the course are fan-tastic. New investors are about to upgrade the track, which unfortunately has endured some criticism in recent years. It is a good budget option for extra rounds of golf.

Here begins a wonderful trip. On the way to the course, a journey of about 35 minutes from Hua Hin city, the road is surrounded with Thai rural fields of sugar cane, mangoes and banana trees.

The track winds up with a number of tricky dogleg holes where those who have the courage to take a chance can be awarded. Almost all holes have water hazards (ponds or streams) as well as cleverly placed bunkers. For a good score, compression and a little luck are required. Many fairways are lined with palm trees that can cause problems if you do not stick to the fairway. An experience which advantageously ends with a drink or something to eat in the cozy restaurant. The course was renovated in 2012 and is in a fantastic condition.

This is the first of the new generation of golf courses in Hua Hin and was inaugurated in 1991. Palm Hills was the first course in Hua Hin who arranged Thailand World Pro Am in 1992 and received much praise from the British PGA. 80 meters above sea level extends the wide fairways through a partly hilly nature. There is some water that makes the track more interesting, especially on holes 2, 8, 11 and 14. The level of difficulty is medium and it makes it both fun and exciting to play. In addition, Palm Hills is known for its excellent greens, which sometimes can be really fast.

Opened in 1993 and is considered one of the best courses in Thailand and invite golfers of all levels of nice challenges. The layout of Springfield with its 27 holes is wonderful. Two of the tracks goes through park and woodland and offers challenges while last track is different from the other two. Here it is more open and more water which affects the game. This path can easily become addictive with its beautiful setting. The clubhouse is located high and offers beautiful views and the lovely interior with polished marble and granite, it feels more like a stately home than a clubhouse at a golf course.

Kaeng Krachan Country Club

Kaeng Krachan Country Club and Golf Resort is located on 14,000 acres located on the East Peninsula in Petchburi Province, about 60 minutes inland from Hua Hin. Kraeng Krachan is a hilly course that requires precision from first tee, especially important not to lose your ball from tee to the bamboo forests that lines many of the fairways. The fairways are beautiful and the greens can be tricky even if they do not appear to be so. Several natural lakes forms the corse, water hazards on six holes. The track sets all at test at all levels of players. The current plan is to open a further 27 holes during the next two years, of which 18 holes were designed by Greg Norman.

Praya Nakhon CaveSam Roi Yot National Park, Pranburi

Praya Nakhon CaveThis is one of Thailand’s most beautiful and impressive and certainly the most photographed cave. The Phraya Nakhon cave is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, about a 45 minutes drive South from Hua Hin, in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park.

The cave consists of two chambers. The ceiling of both chambers are open and allows the sun-rays to slip inside which gives it a mystical appearance. Even the rain seeps into the cave and allows both trees and bushes to grow. The atmosphere is tranquil and serene, espe-cially early morning when the cave is not crowded with tourists. In both chambers you can find a stalagmites and stalactites.

Kuha Karuhas pavilionThe cave is well known for the pavilion in the main chamber and was built at the end of the 19th century for the visit of King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V). Later, King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) and the present King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) also have visited the cave. You can find signatures of both King Rama V and King Rama VII on the wall in the main chamber. Early morning will give you the best views of the cave and Pavilion.

The climb to the caveReaching the cave requires more than a bit of effort. From the parking space at Bang Pu village you have to

climb/walk over two mountains (around 30 minutes each). There is a longtail boat to Laem Sala beach for those who want to spear their legs. The boat costs around 150 Baht per person, round trip, but runs only high season and/or when there are enough people to fill the boat (groups).

The second climb starts at Laem Sala beach. A few hun-dred meters steep walk at a rocky path will take you all the way to the cave. Half way up the hill you can find the view point, perfect for a break and enjoy the great view of the sea and small nearby islands. This climb takes about 30 minutes. As it can get very hot and humid, remember to bring enough drinking water, wear insect repellent and wear solid shoes (no flip-flops). At Bang Pu village and Laem Sala you will find many restaurants and small shops selling drinks and souvenirs.

How to get to Phraya Nakhon caveThe cave is located in the nationalpark of Khao Sam Roi Yot in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. From Hua Hin the ride with car takes about 45 minutes to Bang Pu village.

Admission & opening hoursEntrance fee to to the National Park is 200 Baht per person. The cave is included in the price. Longtail boat from Bang Pu village to Laem Sala beach costs around 150 Baht per person round trip, only high season and if the boat fills up with people.

Hua Hin Floating Market offers a lovely alternative to the Night Market and other excursions from Hua Hin. The floating market is a large artificial lake, surrounded by small buildings with inspiration from the Thai countryside. The stores are fashioned from the 1920s Hua Hin and offers a wide variety of goods ranging from handicrafts to yummy snacks.

Located on Soi 112, about 6 km south of Hua Hin center, you can find the two floating markets that are neighbors. Sam Pan Nam Floating Market is located about 1 km away from its neighbor. In comparison to the two markets, Hua Hin Floating Market focused on a retro theme, while Sam Pan Nam offers a wider range of activities and products. Both have daily cultural shows, boat rides and vendors in boats where you will find a wide selection of light refreshments.

A nice excursion for the whole family, especially as an alternative shopping experience. The atmosphere evokes a sense of what it was in the 1920s, with period architec-ture and decorative details that reflect Hua Hin from the past. The market has a circular layout, wooden bridges and walkways that meander through the market and reaches all stores and restaurants. Free admission!



Pa La-U Waterfall can be found on the south side of Kaeng Krachan National Park, some 60 kms west of Hua Hin. The park is one of the largest in Thailand and located next to the Myanmar (Burma) border.

It is a beautiful waterfall to visit, especially un-der the rainy season and you will pass stunning countryside and hills on your drive here that will take roughly 1 hour.

The waterfall has 16 levels which makes it to one of the highest in Thailand. For those who make it to the top will be rewarded by superb panorama views over Thailand and towards Myanmar. However, continue further than the level 4 will be a bit though and should only be attempted by those fit enough to do so.

The third level has a large, deep pool where most of the visitors stay and are take a re-freshing swim. The water is always cool and refreshing. There are a huge number of large fish swimming in it - please don’t try to catch them! Remember that you are in a National Park and this is forbidden.

The surrounding forest is over 1,000 years old and there is a good chance of seeing wildlife, particularly gibbons (if not seen you will for shore here them) and many rare species of bird-life like Great Hornbill.

The waterfall can be visited at any time of the year. The best time to visit is during and just after the rainy season, between July-November. Remember to be careful when climbing at slip-pery stones, although the path to the third level is well taken care of and relatively safe. At the higher levels it can get more dangerous.

The market is very popular and everyone comes here. The range varies from night to night, which means you can visit the market several times. CICADA MARKETIn a large park local designers gathered and sell their products from stalls but also from houses built on stilts, in their studios and from their cars, such as VW buses. Here tou can find paintings, crocheted teddy bears, lights and vintage gadgets. Most of it feels carefully selected and also the people are quirky and interesting. PLEARN WAN, OLD STYLE MARKET - VintageThis open-air market feels more like a museum where you can experience a slice of life back in the 50´s Hua Hin. The vintage style appears already at the entrance which is built of old, beautifully worn planks. Visit here for inspiration rather than to shop. You can ride the Ferris wheel or buy souvenirs. FLOATING MARKETThis is an area (actually 2 differnet floating market couple 100 meters from each other) built in a colonial style surrounding a lake with boats and bridges where the shops are close. Evenings, it’s especially nice to stroll around and look around and eat at one of the many restaurants. The shopping consists of furniture, textiles, lanterns and souvenirs. Mostly tourists than locals so we’ll admit that it’s a bit of a tourist trap - but very nice ones. Address: 112 Soi Hua Hin. About 5 km from Hua Hin town center.

MARKET VILLAGEThis is the big department store in Hua Hin and this is the fixed rates that apply, which can be nice sometimes. A traditional department store in three floors where you can shop decor, housewares, clothing, accessories, cosmetics and more. Address: Petchakasem Road , soi 88.

PAE MAIThis is the local market that has EVERYTHING! A big and genuine market where they sell food, fruit, vegetables, clothes, gadgets, textiles, baskets, and electronics to name a few. Everything is cheap and everything should be bargain. It is a wonderful experience to walk around the crowd. Located at the end of Canal Road at the driving range to Hua Hin golf club.

GRAND MARKETA night market called Grand Market because it is opposite the Grand Hotel. You can find a similar range as the night market. Orchids in a mix with puppies, rabbits and turtles. The tempel area Wat Huay Mongkol is located about 15 kilometers west of Hua Hin and is best known for its huge statue of one of Thai-land’s most famous monks - Luang Phor Thuad.The statue, which is about 12 meters high and 10 meters wide, is situated on a large hill. The place is very popular among Thai people who travel here from all over the country. They come here to pay their respects to Luang Phor Thuad and ask for favors as luck, health, happi-ness and joy.

Below the giant statue stands two huge three-headed wooden elephants. Locals walk in circles and under the belly of the elephants and wish for good luck. They also throw small coins into the mouth of the elephants, if they succeed happiness and success comes to their life. The area has also a Buddhist temple and a statue of King Taksin the great.

The whole complex is located in a park-like setting with pavilions and restaurants. Well suited for a couple of hours of relaxation and contemplation. The area has a lake, waterfalls, streams, bridges, a number of pavilions and restaurants with shady places. The best time to visit is weekdays. During weekends and big Buddhist holidays the area usualy is crowded.

Luang Phor Thuad lived about 400 years ago in southern Thailand. He became known through-out the country for miracles he performed. For example, it was said that Luang Phor Thuad turned salt water into fresh drinking water on several occasions, as well as numerous other miracles ascribed to the famous monk.

Many Thais believe that the amulets created with the image of Luang Phor Thuad have protective powers, especially from natural dis-asters such as tsunamis and floods and other accidents. Especially old amulets are consid-ered very powerful and priceless.

How to find here?The road to Wat Huay Mongkol passes through some attractive areas on the Thai countryside with huge pineapple plantations and takes about 30 minutes from Hua Hin town. The most convenient way to get here is by taxi which can be booked through most of Hua Hin hotels. Tuk tuk is another possibility, but can get quite warm. Before traveling it is important to agree on the price and book round-trip because it can be difficult to find a taxi on spot.

Cha Am beachCha-Am has a long and tranquil stretch of coastline along the Gulf of Siam, about 20 minutes from Hua Hin and 175 km from bangkok. Cha-Am has become Thais own favorite seaside resort. Hotels and resorts are sparsely scattered and it rarely feels crowded. The beach is clean and the water is usually clear and lacks most of the bustling activities availa-ble at Thailand’s most visited beaches. Beach vendors are not many, one and another, but without being too pushy. There are a handful of those who sell what you really need, fruit, Thai snacks, fried shrimp and crab and cold refreshments like ice cream and cold drinks.

Restaurants / NightlifeAlthough Cha-Am is not an inferno of nightlife, you can still have some fun here. Most of the nightlife is split between Bus Soi, Narathip Road and boardwalk and is intended for those who want to sit back, grab a drink or beer while listening to music and hanging out with the locals. Cha-Am is primarily a place for families and a destination for those who want to relax. It’s one of the reasons that some foreigners have chosen Cha Am as residence instead of Hua Hin, anoth-er reason should probably be the lower prices.

ShoppingCha Am is not exactly well known for good shopping, but a good shopper will always find something to trade! The stores in town caters mostly to locals with simple Thai handicrafts. The best place can be Premium Outlet where branded goods can be purchased for cheaper the price you would pay in Bangkok’s department stores.

Cha-Am Night Market“Talad Nad” is open every day. The market is itinerant, on Mondays you can find the karket in the intersection of Nara-thip Road of Family Mart. On Wednesdays, you can find

it near the train station so people can refer to it as the “Train Station Market“.

Cha-Am Wet MarketThis market contains only food. This is where the locals buy ingredients for the food they serve in Cha-Am restaurants, fish, vegetables, meat and fruit. Open every day 06:00 and 10:00, it is definitely worth your visit! Food markets are a great way to learn more about Thai culture.

ActivitiesUnless you ‘re looking to stick your nose in a good book and unwind the day with a comfortable, relaxing massage there is pony rides on the beach, banana boats and water skiing, windsurfing and parasailing for those looking for a little extra adventure. It’s also a great place for long walks - especially at sunrise or late afternoon when it’s cooler.

Staying hereThere are around 20 different hotels along the beach. YaiYa Resort is one of the more beautiful places situated right on the ocean. You choose if you want to stay in a pool villa or a room with a sea view. Or Grand Pacific with over 200 rooms.

Getting thereTrain departs from Hua Lamphong Station in Bangkok. It’s easy, cheap and youll get to see what nature has to offer along the way. The trip takes around 4 hours and costs 200-500 Baht / person. During the trip you will be offered different food which is a nice feature on the trip.Another way to travel is by bus, it is slightly faster (3-3.5 hrs) and is even cheaper, about 150 Baht. Getting around in Hua Hin is easy. City core is concentrated and it is possible to explore the city-center on foot. If you live a little further away, it is still no more than a few kilometers to the city center.

Getting aroundThere is wide variety of vehicles to choose from. You can find motorcycle taxis in almost every corner, but on the other hand, it is not the safest way to travel. Many motorbike driv-ers do not always have helmets available or they are substandard with poor fit. -Tuk Tuk (with 3 or 4 wheels) are easy to find, especially in the central region of Hua Hin, but they tend to charge high prices. For those who want to travel a longer dis-tance should choose taxi car with air-conditioning, it is also the safest mode of transport.

SongtaewsPublic transport consists of songtaews and there are currently 4 routes.

1. Khao Takiab from Hua Hin Airport. These green trucks depart every 15 minutes and costs 10 baht to and from Khao Takiab to the center of the city and also from there to the airport for an additional 10 baht. You can simply flag them by the roadside. The first songtaews starts from about 6:00 pm and the last around 18:30 (up to 21:00 in high season) evening prices are increasing.

2. Inner City. This is a circular route around the inner city, from Soi 94 in the south to Soi 41 in the north. The route runs both clockwise and counterclockwise at intervals

of about 10 minutes. Begins at 6:00 and runs until 21:00. Cost 10 baht.

3. Maegep to Macro. Starting 06:00 and runs until 20:00. Rush-hour every 15 min, otherwise every 30 minutes. Cost of the trip is 30 Baht, down to 10 Baht for short distances.

4. Hua Hin Huay Mongkol. Circular route, begins at the Hua Hin Railway Station, stops at Market Village, Ban Hua Na, Hua Hin Floating Market, Samphannam Floating Market, Wat Huay Mongkol, Huay Mongkol Floating Market, Majestic Golf. This route runs every hour from the rail-way station and starts at 08.00. Last de-parture from Wat Huay Mongkol is 17:00. Examples of cost: From railway station to Hua Hin Floating Market - 20 Baht. Railway Station to Wat Huay Mongkol - 40 Baht.

For those of you who want to travel short-er distances and not in a hurry should choose rickshaw or trishaw. These three-wheel bicycles can be seen cruising the streets of Hua Hin and is a great way to get around the city-part of Hua Hin. Some of the large hotels organize rickshaw tours with large convoys which meanders through the downtown Hua Hin.

What to pay for transport?The most important thing is to always agree on the price with all drivers before departure! This minimizes the risk of misunderstandings after the trip. After all, haggle is a part of life here, so like to do it - do it with a smile.
