Apollonia Blood donation day

In order to constantly support and help the activities that are part of the overall

life of our local and wider community, Apollonia Foundation got involved in realization

of one of the most noble human activity - Blood donation. In full cooperation with the

Office of Transfusion Medicine at the General Hospital, Gevgelija and Gevgelija’s Red

Cross on October 19, from 11 am until 9 pm in Apollonia Hotel was held the first blood

donation action from the project Apollonia blood donation day. Forty one units of

blood were donated on the first Apollonia blood donation day. With the purpose to

encourage the citizens of Gevgelija to donate their most valuable liquid twice a year (in

fall and spring) there will be organized a blood donation action within the project Apol-

Jazz Festival 2010

Twelve concerts on three stages (Universal Hall, Macedonia Opera and Ballet,

and Hard-rock club) with musicians and groups from the U.S., Norway, Cuba, Brazil,

Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium and Italy, this year marked the 29th edition of

Skopje Jazz Festival, held from 21 to 24 October.

Omar Sosa, Cuban composer and pianist three times nominated for Grammy

Award, brilliant Brazilian instrumentalist on 10 stringed mandolin, Hamilton de

Holanda with his quintet, the Italian singer Maria Pia De Vito, one of the best guitarists

of all time Larry Carlton, the great star - pianist and vocalist Patricia Barber, the Nor-

wegian Trygve Seim tandem saxophones and Frode Haltli accordion, with their ambi-

ent music are some of the names that performed on the Jazz Festival 2010. Apollonia

Concert dedicated to Chopin

In honor of the 200th anniversary from the birth

of the famous Polish composer Frederick Chopin,

and in the frames of the music program Gev-

gelija music autumn 2010, in October in Apol-

lonia Hotel was held piano concert with pieces of

Chopin, performed by students in Musical and

ballet school "Ilija Nikolovski Louis" and the Mu-

sic Academy in Skopje, holders of the first

awards on internal piano competition held in

March. Polonaise, ballads, waltz, nocturnes,

etudes, scherzo and preludes written by the "Polish angel" or “the piano poet” were revived to the audience in Gevgelija by 12

young performers. "Chopin in the past two centuries gained a reputation of the most performed composer in the world ..."

said the moderator of the concert, prof. Snezana Atanasova - Cadikovski which brought the audience back in the time when

Chopin was composing.

What marked the month of October on cultural level was the opening ceremony of the manifestation Gevgelija cultural au-

tumn 2010, with three-hour program which included art exhibition, book promotion and concert of famous Spanish tenor. The

Art program began in the gallery of Apollonia hotel where there were exposed 25 pieces, paintings and pastels of the academic

painter Niche Vasilev, who graduated on the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland, and continued with poetic presentation of

the latest translation in Polish of poetry book "Anchor of Noah" by Macedonian poetess Vesna Acevski-winner of Prize “Braka

Miladinovci” for 2009, published by Ksjazkov IbiS in Warsaw, which came out this year translated into Polish by Renata Galaska -

Vasilev as "KOTVICA NOEGO". This event was closed with the performance of artists from Spain, guests from the International

Festival Interfest - Bitola: Dalmatia Gonzales (tenor) and Anna Ferrer (piano), on pieces from famous classics: Sorozal, Tosti, Ga-

staldon, Kreshenco, Kardilo, Lehar , Biksio, Respigi and Curtis. We would like to express our gratitude to all participants in this

event and to the city library Goce Delchev for taking part in the organization.

With the Comedy "Tsunami" per-

formed by the Drama Studio "Tetovo" on

the stage at the Cultural Centre in Gev-

gelija on October 28 was opened the six-

day international festival of comedy

"Laughter - balm for the soul."

From October 28 to November 2 at three

scenic areas in Gevgelija, the Culture cen-

ter “Macedonia”, public institution

“Pionerski dom” and cafe bar “Korzo”, were performed six comedies by six theater groups including: theater Kolozov, Drama

theatre in Skopje with the famous comedy "Die Hard", Theater Vojdan Chernodrinski from Prilep and Youth Theatre from Bla-

goevgrad, Bulgaria. Organizer of the festival is the public institution culture center "Macedonia" from Gevgelija, in cooperation

with the Municipality of Gevgelija and Apollonia Foundation.

On the occasion of the global children's week, the city

library "Goce Delchev" and the culture center "Macedonia"

from Gevgelija on 7th and 8th October organized the event

"My colorful children's world." Within this event were real-

ized several activities such as: literary and art competition on

the theme "My autumn story", contest “Young librarians”,

art workshop and the final event was with cultural and artis-

tic program, awards for the most successful students and

presentation of the best art and literary works. Apollonia

Foundation, as usual, participated in this project with dona-

tion to provide prizes for children participants in art work-

Choir Gortinija

The City mixed choir Gortinija was in Italy to participate

on international competition in choir singing in the Italian

city of Rimini. Choirs from 28 European countries partici-

pated in this prestigious competition, and in the category

of mixed choirs Gortinija won the silver plaque. According

to the head of the choir Ilia Atanasov, this is another rec-

ognition of the high quality that Gortinija choir has and for

the hard work of all members of the choir. Apollonia

Foundation support their this year’s activities by granting

donation.

On November 29 in Apollonia Hotel, was opened the sev-

enth solo exhibition of artworks made by young Gevgelija

author Mirjana Kristeva Massetti. For the artistic value of

the works before the opening of the exhibition spoke Vladi-

mir Temkov, academic painter and director of the Cultural

Centre in Kavadarci this exhibition was shown as part of

the project “Kavadarci - City of Culture for 2010”. Mirjana

has graduated on the Art Academy in Blagoevgrad, has

participated in over 40 group exhibitions in Macedonia and

abroad (Bulgaria, Romania, Washington, USA), been to 4

international colonies and is a member of the Association

of artists from Macedonia. She is also president the Asso-

ciation of artists in Gevgelija and the art association Multi-

media from Gevgelija, two association from which actively

animates the local art scene.

Children from the "Nature day" project of Apollonia

Foundation continue their regular activities to protect the

environment. At the beginning of November was organized

cleaning action on part of the archeological site “Vardarski

Rid”. These cleaning actions are organized with the chil-

dren once a month, and the remaining weekends we go on

a picnic in nature, where through games and fun kids learn

about nature. All children from the municipality of Gev-

gelija who are on age 6 to 12 years and make reservation

can attend on this project. For further information please
