Transcript of Antony Oration @ julius caesar

Friends, countrymen, listen to me I came to speak on the funeral of Caesar and not to praise him.

The bad deeds of a person remain even after his death but the good ones is often forgotten. So this is the case with Caesar.

Noble Brutus has told that Caesar was ambitious and if this true then, it was a great fault and Caesar had paid for it grievously.

I with the permission of honorable Brutus and all other honorable men came to speak on the funeral of Caesar

Caesar was my faithful and dear friend but the honorable Brutus says that he was ambitiousWhen poor’s cry, Caesar’s heart also cried for them , inspite of this Brutus says he was

ambitious and this is absolutely correct as we know that Brutus is an honorable man.

All of saw that I myself presented him the kingly crown on the Lupercal (the fest of god Lupercus, who was the protector of flocks and herds, an god of fertility ) but

he refused to accept it.Is this is what called ambition. Yet as

Brutus calls him ambitious, it may be right because Brutus is an honourable man.

I have not come to speak against Brutus but I want to express what I know. You all

loved Caesar for good reason while he was alive, now what stops all of you for

mourning for him.O Judgement, tour hearts have left you

and had flew to the beasts. Please have patience as I am to pause my

speaking.

My heart is there with Caesar in his coffin and I must wait for it to come back to me before I can speak again.

(After conversation of Citizens, Antony again starts speaking)Just yesterday only Caesar was so powerful that his sword was able to sway the whole world but today he is lying on the floor in front of us.

And there is no one, not even the poorest of all to pay him tributeI will do wrong to Brutus and Cassius if I incite all of against them as

you know that they all are honorable man. Inspite of doing wrong to them I would rather choose to do wrong to

dead Caesar, myself and you people.I have here in my hand a parchment; it is the will of Caesar that I

found in his cupboard. I am not to read it publicly but I will read it in front of you because I want all of you to listen to it. After reading this

will, you all will run to kiss the wounds of Caesar, dip your handkerchiefs in his blood and beg his hair to preserve it as a relic. All

of you will mention this as a property in your will.

All of saw that I myself presented him the kingly crown on the Lupercal (the fest of god Lupercus, who was the protector of flocks and herds, an god of fertility ) but

ANTONY READING CASER’S WILLI should not disclose this. You are human and it will be

your human nature that you all will not become angry at the death of Caesar after you come to know that you all

are his heirs.I am doing wrong to the honorable men by crossing my

limits and reading this will to all of you. I request you to form a circle around the body of Caesar

so that you can see the person who made this will.

This is a time for you to shed tears. The first time Caesar put on his cloak was after his victory

over the Nervii.

All of saw that I myself presented him the kingly crown on the Lupercal (the fest of god Lupercus, who was the protector of flocks and herds, an god of fertility ) but

Look at this spot in Caesar’s body this is the place where Cassius ran his dragger and made a deep cut on his body.

This is the spot where Brutus stabbed him and see the mark how the blood of Caesar followed his dragger to

check if it was really the Brutus whom he loved. For Caesar, Brutus was like his angel and his stab was the

worst and this broke the heart of Caesar. After Brutus stabbed Caesar, Caesar broke and died at the foot of

statue of Pompey. This fall means a lot in our life as this was the victory of

tyrannous over us.I saw all of you weeping at the sight of his blood. What

would you do on seeing his wounded body? See here, he is brutally stabbed to death by the traitors.

All of saw that I myself presented him the kingly crown on the Lupercal (the fest of god Lupercus, who was the protector of flocks and herds, an god of fertility ) but

Friends I didn’t want to raise you in revolt. Those who have performed this deed are honorable

people. I do not know for what reason they killed him but I know

they will conceive you with their answers. I have not come to win you here. You all know that I am not a good orator but simply an ordinary man who loved

his friend a lot. Well friends here is the will of Caesar that gives seventy-five drachmas to every Roman. In addition to this, he has

left his private gardens and orchards on the side of the Tiber to you for your rest and reaction for generations. He was a great man and there will be no such like him on the

earth again.
