The Bards

uneet Puri was hooked to a life in the outdoors ever

since her father took her rock climbing at the age of 5.

Trekking and climbing have been a passion with her

and she has been trekking the Uttarakhand Himalayas since her

school days. She has also trekked in Nepal. She is something of

a dare devil and to challenge herself she often treks solo.

G

hashi Bahuguna has been an avid trekker and climber most of her life. She is almost a mountain goat, having grown up in a Kamouni Village and having spent her

childhood in the arms of the mountains. She met Anusha and Guneet on an expedition in the Himalayas. She too treks solo or Alpine style when the mood takes her. She is also a trained rescuer.

S

nusha Subramanian, an award winning journalist, started her trekking career in the Sayadri ranges at the tender age of 7 and had covered most of it by the

time she reached her teens. She started walking the Himalayas in 2006 and has trekked across all 5 Himalayan states. She has also trekked extensively abroad.

The Bohemian Way

ur philosophy with regards to BA is simple, "of the mountains, for the mountains and by the mountains".

We view the mountains as our home and as we do what we do best here, climb and trek, we also aim to give back to our

home by providing a sustainable economic scenario to its residents.

As far as possible we try to provide our clients a glimpse into the

lives of the mountain folk, their culture and traditions with home stays along our trek routes.

Our vision for the years to come includes the promotion of women

in the sport of mountaineering both as team leaders and guides. We also hope to lead by example by having stricter and more

stringent safety and environmental guidelines implemented in the Himalayas.

The Trek

Annapurna is not just a mountain rather a 55 kilometer long massif in the Himalaya including hundreds of peaks and glaciers, along with the tenth highest mountain, Mt. Annapurna I (8091 m). It is also the main source of Sapta Gandaki river system, earning the status ‘Goddess of Food’. In the year 1950 Mt Annapurna became the first mountain above 8000 meters to be climbed. This pioneering feat in mountaineering was achieved by French nationals Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal who were part of an all French team lead by Maurice Herzog. Annapurna Circuit which takes around 2 weeks is the most popular trail in this region due to its diverse landscape ranging from sub-tropical forests to high alpine peaks and passes then to barren trans-Himalayan region.

Page 9: Annapurna

Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp on the other hand is a totally different experience which takes around 8-10 days. The base camp is located in the heart of the region and surrounded by the Himalaya in a 360 degree range. Even the trail on the ridge of Mt. Mardi, above 3500 m, is becoming popular for its on top scenic view and less crowd. Along with international popularity, the best part of trekking in this region is well maintained trekking trails and sustainably facilitated tea-house lodges which makes trekking in this region easy and safe. This is certainly one of the best trekking destinations in the Himalayas. The experience of being surrounded by mountains, glaciers and moraines in all directions is just mind blowing. Mt. Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), which is seen towards north of Pokhara is now at south, Mt. Annapurna I is at north, Mt. Annapurna South is west (seems just a few hours walk to the top) and Mt. Himchuli, Tent Peak, etc towards the east.
