Reactions 1449 - 27 Apr 2013 S Amphotericin B liposomal Various toxicities: case report A 51-year-old man with laryngeal precancerosis and laryngeal leishmaniasis experienced various toxicities while receiving amphotericin B liposomal. The man was initiated on treatment with IV amphotericin B liposomal 3 mg/kg/day. He developed severe side effects, such as elevated liver enzymes, fever, renal impairment, hypokalaemia and severe back pain resistant to paracetamol [acetaminophen]. The man’s amphotericin B liposomal was withdrawn on the fourth day. His clinical parameters normalised 10 days later. The man was resumed on amphotericin B liposomal, but back pain and fever recurred, and the drug was discontinued. Author comment: "The patient was treated with liposomal Amphotericin B (3 mg/kg/day; i.v.), but drug administration was discontinued on the fourth day because of the onset of severe side effects".
