Swiss-Bavarian festival in the western U.S.
Oregon's Alpenfest is a long-running Swiss-Bavarian culturalfestival traditionally held on the last full weekend of Septemberin Wallowa County, Oregon. We are a family-oriented and fun-filled event thatcelebrates the Alpine environment of the Wallowa country.
Launched in 1976 as Alpenfest, our festival is the only annual
The 37th edition of Oregon's Alpenfest will run September24-27, featuring polka music and dancing, yodeling, alphorns,Swiss and German cuisine, beer and wine, and art, craft, antiqueand gift shopping.

These board members are bolstered by a cadre of loyal volunteers, without whom our festival wouldn't happen. The volunteers decorate the Edelweiss Inn, set up and take down chairsand tables, cook and serve bratwurst meals, provide safety andsecurity, pour beer and wine, take your tickets and perform

plays everything by ear. Hecomposes some of his ownsongs and lyrics.Among his long list of accomplishments are singing at Appleand Strawberry festivals inMichigan, Swiss Days in Berne,Ind., and playing a leading rolein starting the first Oktoberfest
He also sang at the Swiss consulate in San Francisco to celebrate the700th anniversary of the creation of Switzerland.
Tirolean Dancers folk dance troupe
The Tirolean Dancers of Oregon have been popular Alpenfest entertainers for many years. Their energetic style is typical of Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
The dancers hail from all over Oregon andWashington. They are regulars at Oktoberfests throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Bruce Coutant, alphornist
Alphorn player Bruce Coutant lives in Wallowa County, where he crafts alphorns asone of very few alphorn builders outsideEurope. Bruce also plays French horn locally.

Salzburger Echo comes from its home base in Utah to play for thefirst time at Oregon's Alpenfest. Although these guys usually perform elsewhere on Alpenfest weekend, we strongarmed them togive Oregon's Little Switzerland a try.
Salzburger Echo brings the Alps to audiences, playing Old Worldand contemporary folk music from the alpine regions of Switzerland, Germany and Austria. They continue to amaze audienceswith their alphorns, Swiss cowbells, holzernes g'achter and harmony yodeling.
Together since 1992, Salzburger Echo has played many venues andfestivals throughout the United States and Europe. They compriseone of the most sought-after Alpine bands in the nation. Festivalssuch as Mt. Angel Oktoberfest in Oregon, Snowbird's AnnualOktoberfest in Utah, Las Vegas Oktoberfest, Ruidoso Oktoberfestin New Mexico and Oktoberfest at Snake River Brewing in Jackson Hole, Wyo., invite Salzburger Echo to perform year after yearbecause of their high-energy showmanship, outstanding musicianship and cunning wit.
