AIESEC IN ADANA
AIESEC Adana was established in 1983. The aim of AIESEC Adana is to
give lots of leadership opportunities and to contribute for university
students who wants to improve their personal development.
TURKEY
Bridging the East and the West, Turkey is the crossroads where Asia meets
Europe. The country is surrounded by the Black Sea to the north, the Aegean to the
west and the Mediterranean to the south. Two straits (the Bosphorus and the
Dardanelle) form gates to the inner Marmara Sea, dividing Thrace -the European
part of the country and Anatolia –the Asian part of the country.
Today the Turkish State is a parliamentary democratic country employing a self-
governing system. The capital is Ankara, in the heart of the country. The
population is 99% Muslim. Mustafa Kemal, who is known as Atatürk also, was an
army general and hero of the First World War.
Ataturk is revered as one of the greatest statesman of the world in Turkey. He is
founder of the Republic of Turkey as well as its first President. The population of
the Turkey that has been estimated is 74,816,000 in 2009.
Istanbul is the largest city of the country and one of the fascinating cities of the
country also. Every year so many tourists from different countries visit this exciting
city. There are another touristic cities in Turkey. Such as Izmir, Antalya, Ankara,
Bursa, Nevsehir, Edirne, Konya, Manisa, and Mardin.
So Turkey is the best place to visit. Turkey is also cradle of the ancient cultures,
including the Hittites, Phrygians, Urartians, Lycians, Lydians, Ionians, Persians,
Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuksand Ottomans. There are many
historical places like mosques, churches, palaces, castles and towers around the
Turkey.
It’s the fifth biggest city of Turkey. It has the advantage of being the industrial and trade center of Mediterranean region. It has a big affect on the country economy as it has a very large of capital investment.
Adana has a typical Mediterranean
climate. Winters are mild and wet and
summers are hot and dry. The highest
recorded temperature was on 8 July
1978 with 44.0 degrees Celsius (111.2
°Fahrenheit). The lowest recorded
temperature was 6.4 degrees Celsius
(20.5 °Fahrenheit).
People of Adana are well known with their
bravery, honesty and generosity, but less
known with their fluid intelligence that is
not much bounded by structures of thought
or belief systems. In a clear state of mind,
this type of intelligence opens immense
creativity and productivity; without clarity
swings person from great production to
great destruction.
Cuisine of Adana influenced mainly from Yörük, Arabic and Armenian cuisine and the city
kept its traditions tightly. Spicy, sour and fatty dishes made of meat (usually lamb) and bulghur
are common. Adana Kebab, called "Kebap" locally, is a kebab made from minced meat. Since
it can be found at all kebab restaurants in Turkey and at most Turkish restaurants around the
world, Adana’s name still bears kebab to many people.
Adana Kebab is usually served with onion salad, green salad or with well-chopped tomato
salad. Rakı and Şalgam are usually accompanied with it as drinks.
Vegetable dishes are also popular in the city. The city is also famous for its Şırdan a
kind bicibici (pronounced as bee-jee-bee-jee) consumed especially in summer time.
Furthermore, the city has a number of famous desserts, such as Halka Tatlı, a round-
shaped dessert, and Taş Kadayıf, a bow-shaped dessert. Several types of fruit, including
the apricot, are native to this area.
Air transport, train and coach services are the forms of public
transportation that connects Adana to outside. “Şakirpaşa
Airport” just west of the old town, “Central Bus Terminal”
further to the west and the “Central Train Station “are the focal
points of intercity transportation.
All major districts are covered by a dense municipal bus network under the name ABB.A
privately owned company Balcali, operates 400 buses from two garages, running services
under contrat for ABB. These scheduled services are supplemented by the privately
owned “minibus” or “dolmus” services.
The Metro runs from 6:00am to 9:00pm everday. Runs 10 mins durning weekday peak
hours and every 15 mins at weekends. The total travel time on the metro, end to end takes
21minutes (including all stops.) It’s passenger capacity is up to 21,600 passengers per
hour/per direction. An adult fare costs 1 TL for KentKart holders. Several bus lines are
connected to the stations
Renting a car in Turkey follows the same rules as everywhere around the world. You
must have driving licence and pay attention to insurance coverage when you are
renting the car.
In corporate internships, you should take “AIESEC Internship

You will surely need an insurance in order to travel to Turkey.
No matter how much it may cost, it’s obligatory. You have to
send a copy of your formal insurance form via mail/fax etc.
before coming to Turkey.
To stay in Adana, you have to take Residence Permit which will be
supplied when you arrive to Turkey with your journey partner who
will help you to get this done. For this permit, you must pay 55TL +
40 – 90 U.S Dollars
Be sure to take your travel insurance before you travel to Turkey.
Incase you face a health problem or an urgent situation occurred and
you have to visit the hospital, you must have your travel insurance so
the doctors can examine you and also so you can be able to use our
government health services. (After 2 months from applying to residence permit, you will have a new insurance provided
by your firm.)
Dilberler Sekisi is the most scenic part of the pathway which is along
the west bank, in between the old and the new dam. Recreational
pathway along the north side of the Grand Canal goes from east end
to west end of the city, crossing Seyhan river from old dam's pathway.
Büyük Saat (The Great Clock Tower), built by the local governor of Adana
in 1882, is the tallest clock tower in Turkey rising 32 m (104.99 ft) high. It
was damaged during French occupation, but was rebuilt in 1935, and its
image can be found in the city's coat of arms. Kazancılar Çarşısı(Bazaar
of Kazancilar), founded around the Büyük Saat.
Stone Bridge (Taşköprü) is the only remaining landmark from the Roman-
Byzantine era, and few public buildings were built during Ottoman rule. Adana
is home to modern Turkey's historic Armenian architecture, which can be
found behind the city's central modern buildings.
Sabancı Merkez Camii, though not being historical, it is the most visited mosque
in Adana, as it is one of the largest mosques in the Middle East. Built in loyalty
to Ottoman Architecture, the mosque was opened to service in 1998 to a capacity
of 28,500 prayers.
Today Karataş is known and popular for its fishing industryand as a
place that Adana's inhabitants can easily access to relax on the beach.
There are also rich farmlands behind the coast where cotton,
watermelons, melons and other crops are grown.
Yumurtalık (meaning "egg nest") is a small city and a district in Adana,
province of Turkey. Yumurtalık is not only famous with it's clean sea,
windy weather but also remains to be unforgettable place for it's visitors
as they are amazed with it's historical values. Yumurtalık is preferred as
a holiday and weekend retreat by Adana citizens.
The Orange Blossom Carnival is held
in Adana, Turkey. Adana is the center of an orange-
producing region. It is one of the first annual
carnivals in Turkey. While some of the carnival
celebrations occur at organized and large-scale
events, others are simply spontaneous street
celebrations. The carnival begins in the early April.
It's slogan is simple in contrast to the shine of the
festival, which is: "Nisan'da Adana'da" (April In
Adana)
Watching a movie in cinema costs between 10 – 15 TL.

You can find regular concerts both from national and international
bands/singers. Price of the concert tickets depends on the popularity of
the stage owner. If you prefer live music, to relax or get in to a good
mood, there are varieties of cafes supplying live concerts and karaoke
as well.
There are a lot of good quality pubs in Adana. Usually, you pay your
entrance fee at the door of the pub, the fee includes a drink of your
choice. Prices of the drinks vary from club to club. Most of the cafes
have live music and karaoke parties almost everyday.
