Ms. Sun has been teaching Chinese since 2008. She is well

received by the parents and her classes are always full.

Ms. Zhang has been teaching 2nd

grade in AGWCS since 2007.

She is well received by the parents and she was the recipient of

the 2012 teacher’s award.

唐怡琳唐怡琳唐怡琳唐怡琳 Yilin Tang, Grade 2-2

Ms. Tang attained her B.S in the field of psychology in China and

also has background of Educational Psychology in USA. She loves

working with children and would love to make positive

contributions to their growth. With a big heart for children and

education, she accumulated counseling/advising internship

experience in both Higher Ed. and high school. Ms. Tang has been

teaching at AGWCS since 2013 and is well received by students

and parents.

Weiwei Xu is an AGWCS parent and teaches 3rd

grade Chinese. She earned her PhD in Biology and

Chemistry field. She is happy to teach our kids Chinese and culture.

Ji, Weiwei has mastered multiple languages and the following is her belief about teaching the class:

We are very excited that Ms. Zhongwei Li (李忠伟) will join us for the 2014-15

school year. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English education and Master’s

degree in Chinese Philology. Ms. Li will teach 3rd

grade Chinese and Chinese

Water Painting and Calligraphy.

In additional to her education background, she had extensive teaching experience.

When she taught Middle School Chinese in the 8th grade , she not only taught

Chinese itself, such as characters, Pinyin, conversations, but also the Chinese

tradition behind the language, such as Chinese customs, Chinese ancient Essay,

poetry and Chinese Calligraphy. She also had taught English for 4 years. Outside

the school classroom, she has experience of teaching Chinese Calligraphy and

Water Painting, Chinese Koto (古筝, a traditional ancient instrument). She will

bring her expertise along with the Chinese traditions.

王真老师毕业于上海师范大学，拥有 Plymouth State University 教育学硕士学位。她在上海延吉中学任教 5

年后，加入了上海美国学校，工作了 9年多后和家人一起来美定居。王老师有多年的班主任和教学经验，而且

她同时熟悉中国和美国两种不同的教育体系。她很荣幸有机会能和大家一起在长城中文学校学习中文，传播中

国文化.

王丽华王丽华王丽华王丽华 Lihua Wang, Grade 4-2

王丽华老师毕业于江苏省新苏师范，任教于苏州市平江区实验

学校（包括幼儿园到初中）1995 年来美，先后在波斯顿中文学

校及美国学校（after school) 教中文, 接着在加州教中文。然后

到德州，在传福教会教中文及分别在美国一家教会私立学校做

幼儿园助教，后来到另一家美国教会私立学校做正式老师。这

是她第三年在长城中文学校任教。

张靖楠张靖楠张靖楠张靖楠 Ava Jenni Zhang, Grade 5-1

Ms. Zhang taught Grade 3-1 and 4-1 in AGWCS. She believes that Chinese characters are the building

blocks of Chinese. She emphasizes memorizing. Her students have challenging weekly quiz, and the quiz

score is published every week afterwards. Students print out class handout for every week’s classes. The

workload and expectation of her class is considered high and challenged. Parents should tailor their

expectation toward students’ performance accordingly to fit each kid’s overall schedule.

刘淑梅, 本科毕业于河北师范大学.专业凝聚态物理. 她 2001 年来美, 喜欢历史和中文, 有三个孩

子在长城中文学校学习. 刘淑梅老师很珍惜教中文的机会,很高兴能够有机会把在大学期间学过的教

学教法及教育学的知识付诸实施 . 为孩子们打好中文基础, 提高孩子们的学习兴趣.

Mr. Si has been teaching multiple classes since 2007,

include 6th

grade Chinese, Math 5 and Math Count classes.

He gives his student challenges but also encourages them at

the same time. He also reinforces the students to memorize

the Chinese poetries learned through out of the years.

Ms. Shi has solid education and language background. She loves

teaching and has been teaching at AGWCS since 2007. She has

engineer background but over the years teaching has become her

passion.

张小燕张小燕张小燕张小燕 Xiaoyan Zhang, Grade 7-2

专业机械工程。1999 年秋季来美，在佛罗里达大学学习。2005 年毕业来到奥斯汀。张老师喜欢中

文，喜欢数学，也喜欢历史，很珍惜在长城中文学校跟大家一起学习中文的机会。

在长城中文学校七年级的同学，一般都在初中一年级或者更高年级。所以除了讲解课文和生字词，还

会涉及一些简单的文章体裁、语法等知识，也会复习拼音，汉子结构和起源等一些简单知识。

曾霞曾霞曾霞曾霞 Xia Zeng Grade 8-1

Ms. Zeng joined AGWCS in 2012 and has taught 2nd

grade Chinese

since then. She believes that using different teaching methods can

improve interest in language learning. Each concept is taught in four

levels: Listening, Speaking, Reading aloud, and Writing. Different

activities are designed to reinforce learning at each level. Ms. Zeng’s

goal is to teach in such a way that encourages the children to love

Chinese.

张春平张春平张春平张春平 Chunping Zhang, Grade 8-2 (New)

张春平老师毕业于中国人民大学新闻学院，曾在光明日报社、中央电视台和中国

经营报社担任编导记者，有较强的中文文字功底，热爱传播中国文化，喜爱在与

孩子的互动中进行中文教学。在教学中，穿插故事，运用汉字本身象形表意的特

征进行教学，得到了孩子们的喜欢。

赖轶卿赖轶卿赖轶卿赖轶卿 Ben Lai, Grade 9

Mr. Lai is an AGWCS parent. He loves contributing to the

Chinese community and served as a vice principal during

2008-09 school year. He has been teaching Chinese since

2009. He loves Chinese literacy and also taught Chinese

Writing and Badminton before. Several of his students have

won the different Chinese Writing competitions in the past.

Ms Liu has been teaching at AGWCS since 2007 and is well

liked by her students. Both her husband and she have served as

AGWCS Board member before. Ms. Liu and her family has

made a tremendous contribution to the success of our school, we

hope her kids never outgrew AGWCS.

王斯昀王斯昀王斯昀王斯昀 Siyun Wang, Pre-Algebra

Mr. Siyun Wang has chemical engineering background. He has taught the pre-algebra course since Fall 2013.

Course overview

The pre-algebra course aims to prepare the students for the following algebra courses. The fall term focuses on

numbers and variables and the spring term focuses on geometry and statistics. Major topics of the fall term

include rational numbers and irrational numbers, proportionality relations and concepts on variables. Major

topics of the spring term include geometry, statistics and probabilities. Besides the course content, it is also the

teacher's willingness to convey the interest of math and critical thinking to the students. There is a homework

assignment each week additional to the regular midterm and final exams.

Class overview:

郑辉郑辉郑辉郑辉 Hui Zheng, Ph. D. Algebra I

Dr. Hui Zheng is currently a software architect who regularly applies

mathematical knowledge in engineering solutions. Trying to help his own

kids to learn math not only has got him interested in math education, but

also has revived his dormant enthusiasm in math. He was fortunate to get a

chance to teach Algebra I at AGWCS in 2013. He has enjoyed teaching and

learned a lot in the past year and would like to continue to help more

students discover the beauty of Algebra and math in general.

Algebra is the language of all advanced mathematics, but it definitely presents many challenges for a new

learner (who is only used to doing calculations based on concrete numbers). In this class, my main objective is

to ease the transition, and instill a style of abstract thinking and problem solving strategies into the students

while covering the basic concepts related to linear and quadratic equations. Since the only way to learn math is

through hard work and constant thinking, I strive to keep students intrigued and teach them many ways of

thinking harder and better. As a prerequisite, the student should be familiar with pre-algebra concepts, such as

arithmetic procedures, fractions, decimals. I will review and enforce them during the class as well. For more

Hui Quan Geometry (New)

Dr. Hui Quan is currently a staff scientist who regularly applies mathematical

knowledge in engineering solutions. He had excelled in math subjects all along

his education path. He had tutored many students in math and science over the

past decade and developed a passion in teaching kids math and science in a fun

way. He believes that main task of a math teacher is to share the joy of the

discovery process. Her daughter achieved 20+ out of 25 score on AMC-8

(American Math Competition under 8th grade) when she was 4th grader. We

are fortunate to have him to apply his teaching strategies to other children.

Geometry course seeks to explain the basic principle of planetary and solid geometry in a 2-semester interval.

No textbook was needed for the class and the course will cover the "NOT SO BORING" part of the textbook :

and exercises from AoPS textbook: Introduction to Geometry

in two levels: 4th-6th graders; And high school level for 7th and above. At the end of the course, higher level

student will be able to pass AP-Geometry test with the given work and guide.

李林李林李林李林海海海海 Linhai Li, Algebra II

Algebra II teacher Linhai Li was graduated from Beijing Normal University with

MS in Physics. He has taught in high school and college in China. Later he

received his M.S. in Computer Science from USL Louisiana. He is currently a

QA consultant at Deloitte.

Algebra II is for students who will be enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, or regular

Algebra II at regular school in the same school year. After this class, students

should be able to easily pass STAAR test for Algebra II. They will be well

prepared for Pre-Ap (TAG, GT) Algebra II.

刘思莉刘思莉刘思莉刘思莉 Sili Liu, Pre-Calculus

Ms. Liu works as Engineer. Calculus is her passion and she has taught Pre-Calculus

in college.

Introduction to Biology and Chemistry - BioSystems 5PM to 6PM (New)

The new Geometry teacher Dr. Hui Quan would also like to give expertise in his professional field. Since

Biology and Chemistry is Dr. Quan's profession and he earned his PhD degree from Duke University in Cell

Biology and works as a research scientist in BioSystems field.

The course would open the doors to the world Biology and Chemistry for the 4th-7th graders and raise their

interest and curiosity in pursuing the area in the future. It will cover interesting topics like food ingredients,

paint composition, animal development and so on.

Chess 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Yu hàn John Morgan, M.A, M.Ed., Chess 1

Coach Morgan is certified as a local coach by the US Chess Federation

and as a developmental chess instructor by the International Chess

Federation. He specializes in bringing new students to the game. He

has been teaching in AGWCS since 2010. He loves the school as well

as the students and support of the parents.

Chess I is both a recreational chess program and a transition to

intermediate and advanced chess instruction. Students will learn chess

rules, chess notation, and tactics for opening, middle, and end play.

The coach will provide a middle game puzzle set for use during the class period. Students who wish to advance

their knowledge by use of the solitaire puzzle set may purchase a set at their option. Skill in chess notation will be

acquired. A small three-ring binder will be useful to keep class handouts and score sheets. Elementary analysis

of games will be a topic of study. Students will bring their own triple-weighted chess set with a notated board and

a pencil to each class. Other materials listed are available for a more in-depth appreciation of the game. Students

who wish to learn at a more leisurely pace may re-enroll in Chess I for more than one year. Those students who

study the basics and absorb them may opt to take the transitional examination to learn chess at a more advanced

David.C. Chung Chess 2 (4:00 - 5:00 PM) and Chess 3 (5:00 - 6:00 PM)

UT Austin Computer Science graduate and has played Chess for many years. He has been teaching Chess at

AGWCS since 2011.

Chess 2 focuses on chess tactics. Students will learn how to take advantage of a position in order to win pieces

and gain the upper hand. Chess 3 focuses on chess strategy. Students will learn opening lines, middle game

principles, and endgame theory."

For Chess 2, only the students who have passed either Chess I or the Chess II entrance exam will be eligible to

enroll. The exam will test a student’s knowledge of notation and basic rules of chess. For Chess 3, only the

students who have passed either Chess II or the Chess III entrance exam will be eligible to enroll. Exam with

instructions will be sent out about two weeks before class begins.

Kimberly Graham, Art 1/Beginning Art (New)

Ms. Graham has Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and is a Texas Certified Teacher.

In addition to teaching art she also creates oil paintings in her free time. She has 3

wonderful children and supportive husband who inspire her daily. Understanding the

Elements and Principles of Art is essential to creating original pieces for both the

beginning artist and the masters. This class will focus on teaching the Elements of Art

through the use of a variety of mediums.

周老师来自于中国深圳，毕业于湖北美院美术教育专业，长期从事美术教育。艺术教育理

术课程设计成现代版的多元材料创作活动，引导孩子们积极参与的创作意愿和创作过程。

Ms. Zhongwei Li received her Bachelor’s degree in English education and

Master’s degree in Chinese Philology. And she will teach 3rd

and Chinese Water Painting and Calligraphy .

experience. Outside the school classroom, she has experience of teaching

Chinese Water Painting and Calligraphy, Chinese Koto (古筝). She will

processed and half processed, suitable for conveying the artistic expression of both calligraphy and painting.

Martial Art/Self Defense 柔道/自卫 4:00 - 5:00 PM

王子赫王子赫王子赫王子赫 James Zihe Wang

Mr. Wang has been trained in kickboxing (muay thai) and grappling

arts such as Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The class would be

concentrating on the self-defense aspect of the Martial Art.

The class will start with 10-15 minute of warm ups; Followed by 30

minutes of instruction on technique of the day with the remaining

time practice the techniques (under supervision). Live sparring can be

discussed once they are advanced enough AND have parent's

permission.

Since there would be certain degree of body contacts in the class, Parents are required to sign a waiver in order to

enroll your kids to the class.

Yoga/Taiji 2:00 - 3:00 PM Adult

廖君廖君廖君廖君 Jun Liao

Jun has been practicing Yoga for 9 years. She has taken classes from

many different teachers and studios in Austin. She learned Hatha

Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga. She loves to

bring full body mindfulness to her classes. Her favorite quote: By

first bringing kind/loving attention to our own body and mind, we

bring love-kindness to the people around us.

Bilingual Chinese Kids 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Ms. Tang attained her B.S in the field of psychology in

Ms. Tang started teaching bilingual Chinese Kids Level 1 at AGWCS in 2013 and well received by

students and parents. Bilingual Chinese II will open a door for the children who have had some

experience with Chinese and want to further expand vocabulary, improve daily life speaking, and

Chinese characters writing. Students will have a lot of fun to study Chinese as a foreign language!

解敏解敏解敏解敏 Min Xie, Bilingual Kid -Level 3

She has a BBA degree in Accounting but loves teaching Chinese. She has

been teaching 4th

Grade Chinese since 2011 and Bilingual Kids since 2010.

She has been moving up with this class since Bilingual Kid Level 1. In her

class, she encourages her students to read more Chinese without Pinyin.

She has begun to teach her students how to write Chinese since Level 2 and

she will push her students to write more in level 3. In her third year with

this class, she will speak more Mandarin for class instruction. She offers

this third year as a transitional period for her students to adjust themselves

to more vigorous regular Chinese Class.

Bilingual Chinese Adult 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Bilingual Chinese classes focus on practical aspect of the language and Pinyin and use the Conversational

Chinese 301 Lesson as textbook. Students will learn simple Chinese speaking related to their everyday life.
