The months are easy to remember in Japanese.

You simply use the number of the month, then add gatsu!月/!

!

Take a look at the table.

Does this kanji look familiar? It is the kanji for moon and it’s used in the word for Monday. (Getsuyoobi!月よう日*!!

It also has another meaning, month which is pronounced gatsu!がつ/!

When saying your phone number in Japanese, the numbers are said one after the other and zero is used for 0.

You also say no after the area code or where there is a gap. No is pronounced like the no in not.

Moshi moshi もしもし means ‘hello’ on the phone.

You then say your family name followed by desu です.

Look at the dialogue below.

The word for phone is denwa でんわ and bangoo ばんごう means number. Nan ban なんばん means What number? The ban is short for bangoo.

Denwa bangoo wa roku go go roku no hachi ni zero zero desu.

でんわばんごうは六五五六の八二00です。

My phone number is 6556 8200.

Denwa bangoo wan nan ban desu ka.
