Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has continuously established
friendship relations with major cities in Asia, America and Europe which has

visited Beijing
8 August 2008, Mr.Apirak Kosayodhin, Governor of Bangkok, paid a
courtesy call on Mr. Lui Qi, Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Communist
Party of China (CPC) Committee, who is also the Chairman of the Beijing
Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympaid (BOCOG) and
former Mayor of Beijing. In addition, Mr. Apirak paid a courtesy call on Mr.
Gou Jinlong, Mayor of Beijing. Mr. Gou said that Bangkok and Beijing are
capital cities and sister cities for 15 years. The host of XXIX Olympic has
resulted in the social, environmental and technology development of the City
of Beijing in order to satisfy the Olympic visitors. Governor Apirak informed
to Mayor Guo that he was appreciated with various city management and
redevelopment done by Beijing City such as the provision of special lanes for
sportsmen and visitors to attend the Olympic Games. Moreover, Beijing had
beautified the city by planting trees to absorb air pollution same as Bangkok
Green policy to rehabilitate environmental conditions, reduce pollutions and
make social awareness campaign to use bicycle.

EU Cows come to Thailand
The EU Herd of 28 colorful cows visited Thailand as part of a series of
events to celebrate Europe Day (9 May). The cows made their home in the
Emporium Shopping Complex and Benjasiri Park from 8-14 May.
This colorful herd of cows symbolizes the diversity of the European
Union. The EU Herd of Cows was created in 2004 in joint initiative of the
Netherlands Embassy in the Czech Republic and the organizers of the
CowParade held that year in Prague. To mark the Dutch Presidency of the EU
in 2004, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality decided
to acquire the then 26 strong herds. Two more cows were later added in 2007 to
mark the accession to the EU of Romania and Bulgaria. The EU Herd of Cows
has travelled to various locations in Europe and has embarked on a tour of Asia
stopping in China in 2006, Vietnam in 2007 and Malaysia in 2008.

BMA sent 6 youths and 2 officials joined the 7th ASIAD Host City
Allied Youth Camp in Hiroshima, Japan, during 4-11 August 2008. The
purpose of the Camp is to strengthening close relationship among youth of the
ASIAN Games hosting city. There are 6 member cities on this camp, Bangkok,
Beijing, Delhi, Hiroshima, Kuala Lumpur and Busan. The hosting city will
rotate among its member every year.

BMA, International Affairs Division led two university students
joined Brothers+Sisters Seoul Project, Seoul, Korea, during 1-11 July 2008.
Bangkok and Seoul’s Sister City student divided into 9 group activities which
focused on a specific theme regarding the sustainable development of cities.
This project provides student the extraordinary opportunity to network with
peers from all around the world together with discover a variety of solutions to
the similar problems faced with each cities.

On July 10 -15 2008, San Francisco, California hosted the 42nd
International Children’s Games. Athletes from 84 cities representing 42
countries and spanning six (6) continents will compete in eight sports and
participate in cultural activities designed to foster understanding and
friendship. The San Francisco Games will bring together 1,200 athletes, 12 to
15 years of age, to put forth their personal best in track and field, tennis,
swimming, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, basketball and golf.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration sent athletes, city representa-
tives and staff in total of 21 persons joined 4 sports competition of Golf, Track
and Field, Tennis and Swimming. The result of the competition, BMA obtained
5 golden 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.
