coMMunity newsGrandkids’ days December 26 & 27, 2015

What a wonderful holiday season it was at Valencia Cove! We got to enjoy our beautiful new Clubhouse and show it off to family and friends. The children’s festivities began on December 26, with “Tennis for Tots and Teens,” guided by our own Tennis Pro, Phil Flanagan. That was followed up by arts and crafts, where the families created winter keepsake frames and pictures were taken as a memento of holidays spent in South Florida. The day was rounded out by a fun day at the pool with a DJ, games, and face painting.

The fun continued into December 27, with Fit n’ Fun events for the kids, including games and relay and sack races, all overseen by our own fitness crew at Your Best Fit. At 1:00 p.m., we welcomed local Master Magician Gary Midnight who wowed the crowd gathered in the Social Hall with his spellbinding illusions and sleight-of-hand feats.

We have received very positive feedback from children, parents and grandparents on our Grandkids’ Day activities and are already planning next year with days packed full of family fun.

The 2016 tennis season is in full swing at Valencia Cove and the courts are busier than ever. I am so pleased at the growth of the tennis program over the past year. Our league program has expanded to two women’s teams and two men’s teams in the Palm Beach County Senior League and one men’s team in the Palm Tennis Night League. We will certainly be able to add additional teams as more residents close on their homes.

Upcoming special events this season include the Grand Slam League evening at the Delray Beach Open February 12, that includes dinner in Delray and a ticket to the evening session at the Delray Beach Tennis Center; and a March 29 bus trip to the Miami Open on Key Biscayne, that includes round trip bus transportation, a stadium seat for the day session, and lots of goodies for the trip!

I want you to know that the tennis staff at Valencia Cove is here for you, for evaluations (no charge), private lessons, and group lessons. The lesson program is expanding and with the addition of Natalie Clark to the tennis staff, I am sure we can offer something for everyone, so give us a call or stop in and we will get you started!

Natalie Clark is originally from Charleston, West Virginia, but spent the last 16 years in Memphis, Tennessee, as the Director of Tennis at the Germantown Country Club. Natalie and her husband relocated to South Florida in March 2015. Natalie’s extensive knowledge of the game, her enthusiasm, and her programming experience will be an asset to Valencia Cove.

Reserving a Tennis Court at Valencia Cove must now be scheduled through the Chelsea online court reservation system that allows you to book, cancel, or review your court time reservations at your convenience.
