This second-generation 9700-series processing
element for modular sound synthesizers is
designed to provide great sound and ecellent
value!
The 97"2 monitors the input signal voltage and
copies it to the output# synchronized to changes in
an input control voltage $C%& or an input cloc'# or
synchronized to an internal cloc' if there is noeternal input! The input may (e an audio or
control signal! )ne typical application uses noise
as an input signal and a varia(le rate cloc' to
control sampling! This provides a random control
voltage source from the module output!
The module*s use +ith audio signals is enhanced
(y a s+itch option to change the function from
,sample and hold, to ,gate and hold,# +here the
output trac's the input signal as long as the
control input voltage is a(ove a threshold $or# if
selected# the internal cloc' rises&! After the control
voltage drops# the output voltage freezes until the
net high-going transition of the control voltage $or
the internal cloc' rises again&!
This high-performance module is designed to (e
compati(le +ith most modular synthesizer
systems +ith little or no modification! ost active
components are already mounted# ma'ing
assem(ly a snap!

ASSEMBLING THE 9752 Sample and Hold
/efore (eginning assem(ly# go through the manual! oo' at the dra+ings!
1eel the parts! ou*re naturally eager to plunge right in# (ut ta'e a fe+
deep (reaths first! Chec' the parts supplied against the pac'ing list at the
(ac' of this manual!
In some cases, notes packed with the parts will be used to call your attention
to special situations. If parts are missing, please notify PAiA at
[email protected] or by phone at (405) 340-300, fa! (405) 340-3"#. A

odern electronic components are small $in case you hadn*t noticed& and
values mar'ed on the part are often difficult to see! Another handy tool for
your (ench +ill (e a good magnifying glass! Also use the magnifier to
eamine each solder Boint as it is made to ma'e sure that is doesn*t have
any of the pro(lems in the )56:83 section +hich follo+s!
SOLDERING
elect a soldering iron +ith a small tip and a po+er rating of not more than
" +atts! oldering guns are completely unaccepta(le for assem(ling
solid-state euipment (ecause the large magnetic field they generate can
damage components!
.se only a high uality electronic solder! our 'it is compati(le +ith lead-
free andDor tin-lead flu-core solders made especially for electronic
assem(ly! Plum(ing solder +ill destroy your 'it +ith its acid core! Ee+elry
solder $silver solder& +ill destroy your 'it +ith its high +or'ing heat! 3either
is for electronics +or'!
A proper solder Boint has Bust enough solder to cover the soldering pad anda(out

The potentiometers have ta(s etending from their (ody
for sta(ility! They have a snap-fit to the (oard! Align
the ta(s and pins +ith their holes and press them into
place! There is no need to (end the ta(s or terminals!
To ensure the (est alignment +ith these parts +ith the
front panel# (egin (y soldering only one of the multiple
terminals associated +ith each of the follo+ing parts
as it is installed! Then# if a part is tilted or croo'ed# itis only a matter of reheating the Boint as the part is
aligned!
