    CODE OF PRACTICE ON

    BUILDABLE DESIGN

    INTRODUCTION

Buildable design legislation came into effect on 1J anuary 2001. Under this legislation, all new buildingprojects with gross floor areas of 5000m2 and above arerequired to comply with the minimum buildabilitrequirements stipulated in the Code of Practice onBuildable Design. New extension or addition to existingbuilding is also affected by the legislation.

Over the years, changes have been made to the scopeof legislation, the minimum buildability scores requiredand the Buildable Design Appraisal System (BDAS).New products had also been introduced and moreexperiences had been gained in meeting the regulatorrequirements. The minimum buildability scores willcontinue to be raised every one to two years over thenext few years. This is because the initial standardswere set low in 2001 so that the industry had more timeto adjust and familiarise themselves with therequirements.

Attending this course is also accepted as satisfying theBuildable Design Training requirement for listing with thePublic Sector Panels of Consultants (PSPC)
