The Amendments
Objective- after analyzing political cartoons students will describe the first ten Amendments
and give examples of how they are relevant today by creating their own political cartoon.
Content VocabularyPrior Restraint- gov’t censorship of info before its published
Probable Cause- police must have a reasonable basis to link someone to a crime
Due Process – gov’t must follow constitutional procedures in trials
Eminent Domain- the government’s right to take private property for public use
Poll Tax- money paid in order to vote
Third Amendment

Second AmendmentRight to keep and bear arms in order to maintain a well regulated militia.
Sixth AmendmentRights of accused persons, e.g., to defend themselves in court, right to a speedy and public trial, and impartial jury.
First Amendment
Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.
Fifth Amendment
Right to due process of law, freedom from self-incrimination, double jeopardy.
Seventh Amendment
Right of trial by jury in civil cases.
Tenth AmendmentPowers reserved for the states.
Fourth AmendmentFreedom from unreasonable searches and seizures.
Eighth AmendmentFreedom from excessive bail, cruel and unusual punishments.
