      KEY PROJECTS DETAILS / RESULTS

    M.Tech ThesisCentre for Mechatronics,

     IIT Kanpur

    (Aug 2008 - Ongoing)

Evolved a strategy for obtaining a collision free path with minimum energy requirement for a

robotic manipulator, between given start and end points.

Developed a C++ library for volume based collision detection between two arbitrary solids.

Member of the development team of a robotics software YANTRIKA©  being developed byCentre for Mechatronics, IITK.

    Summer InternshipUniversity West, Sweden

    (May 2007 – July 2007)

Developed a C module with simulations on RobCAD™   to generate paths for   ABB Robots  to

trace out laminas, further to be used in rapid prototyping.

The developed module efficiently handles generic problems in rapid prototyping viz. Necks,

     Notches.

The module is envisaged to be used by VOLVO-AERO  for fabricating aircraft engine parts

which otherwise are not easily machinable.

    Snake-like Manipulator

    Centre for Mechatronics, IIT Kanpur

    (May 2008 – Aug 2008)

Designed the manipulator using stress & deformation considerations.

Developed a software in Visual Basic for monitoring & control purposes.

The manipulator is to be delivered to IGCAR   in Dec ’08 and shall serve in the atomic wastestorage facility with minimal human intervention.

Research paper  submitted in National Conference on Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing

Processes (RIMP 2009) conducted by R&D division BHEL.

    Digital Image Correlation Photo-mechanics Lab,

     IIT Kanpur

    (May 2008 – August 2008)

Developed a non-contact testing product for simplifying stress-strain measurements in a team of 3

    students.

Developed product is 50% cheaper than the currently imported technology in India.

Research paper  submitted in 53rd  Congress of India Society of Theoretical & Applied

    Mechanics (ISTAM) 2008.

    Pipe Bending Machine

    AutomationManufacturing Lab, IIT Kanpur

    (Jan 2006 – July 2006)

Developed software to generate commands through serial port for a pipe bending machine.

Fabricated the electronic circuits for command reception & stepper motor driving at the machine-end for interfacing the computer and machine.

Machine left fully automated, with two modes of operation viz. manual and file operation.

    Face RecognitionTerm Project, Computer Vision

    (Aug 2007 – Dec 2007)

Developed and successfully tested a face recognition module on YALE and ORL face databases.

Achieved a recognition rate of 92 % in a database of over 550 faces.

Will be used for attendance marking of students after integration with security cameras in the

    CSE building, IITK .

    Password Protected

    Door LockCentre for Mechatronics,

     IIT Kanpur

    (May 2006 – July 2006)

Developed the code for ATMEGA-16 microcontroller and associated electronic hardware.

Useable by multiple users with separate username/passwords.

Electronic Quiz BuzzerQuiz Club, IIT Kanpur,

    (Sept 2004 – Feb 2005)

Designed & fabricated an Electronic Buzzer using basic electronics.

The buzzer still works in institute quizzes and other competitions.

The design successfully captures the first hit with a resolution of nanoseconds.

      POSITIONS HELD RESPONSIBILITIES / ACHIEVEMENTS

    Coordinator, Institute Robotics Club,

    (July 2006 – June 2007)

Successfully conducted a series of workshops viz. Toy Car, Line Following Robots and general

electronics workshops to enhance student body participation.

Conceived summer projects and mentored juniors in the same.

    Revamped necessary club infrastructure.

    Coordinator, Electronics-Cell SIDBI,

    (Aug 2005 – Jun 2006)

Initiated & conducted a series of lectures & hands on workshops on ZILOG microcontrollers.

Achieved large participation of nearly 100 students.

Initiated the work on Cost Efficient C.R.O.

    Student Guide &

    Senior Link Student,

    Counselling Service,(Aug 2005 – Aug 2008)

Assisted in smooth conduction of the orientation process for new students.

Part of the interview panel  for selecting indigent students for scholarships given by Counselling

Service. Personally guided seven randomly assigned students, during and after the orientation.

Monitored & assisted two academically deficient students for one year.
