이어지는 세종문화회관 9개 예술단의 공연과 기획 공연, 그리고 전시를 망라한 국내 최대 규모의 시즌제입니다. 올해에는 56개 393회의 공연과 7개의 전시를 통해 그 어느 때보다 설레는 마음으로 시민 여러분과의 만남을 준비했습니다.

세종문화회관은 세종시즌을 통해 체계적인 사전 기획으로 완성도 높은 작품을 구성하여 연간 프로그램을 한 권의 책에 담아 선보이게 되었습니다. 이 한 권의 책에는 시민 여러분에게 놀라운 영감과 희망을 불어 넣어 줄 공연과 전시 프로그램이 가득 담겨있습니다.

위드 코로나 시대를 살아가는 지금, ‘만남’의 가치를 다시금 생각해 봅니다. 이 시대는 ‘온택트’를 강조하며 온라인을 통한 만남이 활성화되고 있습니다. 하지만 서로를 실제로 마주하며 느끼는 따뜻한 온기와 서로의 눈을 바라보며 마음을 나눴을 때 얻을 수 있는 공감과 위로는 그 어느 것으로도 대체할 수는 없습니다.

Celebrating its sixth anniversary, the Sejong Season is the largest of its kind in Korea composed of year-round performances and special events staged by Sejong Center’s 9 arts groups in addition to exhibitions. This year, we plan to present 393 stages of 56 performances and 7 exhibitions with more expectations than ever before to meet with our citizens.

The Sejong Center’s Sejong Season is structured with high-level performances through systemic pre-planning. All the season programs are compiled in one booklet filled with information on performances and exhibitions that will give hope and inspiration to our citizens.

In this era of living with COVID19, the value of meeting one another is being rethought. Online meetings are encouraged now with an emphasis on indirect contacts. However, the feeling of warmth we get from facing one another and the connectedness of empathy and comfort we share by looking into one another’s eyes are irreplaceable.

Performance and exhibition arts deliver an overwhelming realism that moves your heart.We will exert our best efforts so that new worlds are experienced through performances and exhibitions at Sejong Center and your life is added with deep inspirational opportunities.

Roméo et Juliette, synonymous with a tragic love story, meets Charles Gounod and comes into the world as a French romantic opera masterpiece. Following the tradition of French grand operas, it is composed of five acts where each scene is accompanied with elegant and beautiful music that beautifies the story and make it even more heartrending. In addition, the stage features a modernized structure in a contemporary sense to facilitate the understanding of the audience.

Opera Talk Talk, Mozart: Bastien und Bastienne

Being the first opera that Mozartwrote when he was just 12, the story is about Bastien and his lover Bastienne who repeatedly test one another to win the other’s love. In the end, they reconcile with the help of Colas the magician. This opera is a “Singspiel” that includes witty and entertaining dialogues, provided with Korean translation.

‘오페라 톡톡’은 오페라에 관한 궁금증과 작품 내용, 제작과 관련된 에피소드 등 다양한 비하인드 스토리를 전문가의 해설을 통해 감상하는 “토크 쇼” 형식의 오페라 공연입니다. 모차르트가 12살에 작곡한 첫 번째 오페라를 소개하는 오페라 톡톡 ‹모차르트: 바스티앙와 바스티엔›은 바스티앙과 그의 연인 바스티엔이 서로의 사랑을 확인하고자 티격태격하다 마법사 콜라스의 도움으로 화해한다는 내용입니다. 재치 넘치고 재미있는 대사들이 인상적인 한국어 번안 징슈필 오페라입니다.

A large creative dance drama dealing with water’s meaning and mind under the theme ‘Gam-Gwae.’ The Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre presents a stylistic interpretation of water that never stops flowing into a message that we can escape from the difficulties we face if we can survive from and do not stop making efforts against those difficulties.

감괘

‘감괘’라는 주제 아래 물의 의미와 정신을 소재로 한 대형 창작무용극으로, 물의 흐름이 쉼 없이 지속되듯이 어려움에 직면하더라도 이를 이겨내고 끊임없이 노력하면 험난함을 벗어날 수 있다는 내용을 서울시무용단의 감각적인 해석으로 풀어냅니다.

Musical, Fiddler on the Roof

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Seoul Metropolitan Musical Theatre, a whole new Fiddler on the Roof, the masterpiece of the century and one of the theatre’s major repertoires throughout its history is presented.Fiddler on the Roof is a musical set in a small Jewish village in Russia in 1905. The value of love, embracing both the tradition and a new age despite hardships and poverty, is depicted through a solid narrative, dramatic melodies, grand chorus and dynamic group dancing. You can listen to commentators who will deliver various behind stories including themes you may wonder about operas, content and episodes related to opera production. This new concert concept in an opera talk show format takes composer Rossini as a topic where you can also enjoy the actual performance of vocalists.

Following Tango Ballet of Kim, Joo-won in 2019 and Jaafari of Kim, Seol-jin in 2020, here comes a brand new piece of work in 2021.In this performance worked by the top production team, an unconventional stage will be revealed through new experiments of visual and auditory stimulations.

Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra

The flashy opening of Hong Kong Week 2021 will be marked by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra which was named Orchestra of the Year in 2019 by Gramophone, the world’s prestigious classical music magazine. In the opening concert at Sejong Grand Theater, Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 will be conducted by music director Jaap van Zweden and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 will be presented in collaboration with violinist Kim Bomsori. The next day, you can meet Dvorak’s String Quintet No. 2 and Schubert’s Trout Quintet in the Chamber concert at Sejong Chamber Hall, a perfect place to appreciate chamber music with an optimum music environment.

Experimental Cantonese Opera: Farewell My Concubine (New daptation) by the Xiqu Centre, Hong Kong

The Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong is a world-class venue showcasing traditional and contemporary xiqu performances by artists from Hong Kong, mainland China and Southeast Asia. It also supports artists creating new works to advance the legacies of Chinese traditional theatre.Its first ever commissioned work, Farewell My Concubine (New Adaptation) premiered in 2016 and has received overwhelming reviews for performances in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and mainland China. The production was recognised with a Best Experimental Xiqu award at the China (Beijing) Performing Arts Expo 2018, and an Honorary Credential award at the 2018 Xiqu Opera Black Box Festival (Beijing).

L’Orphelin 2.0 by Théâtre de la Feuille

The Orphan of the Zhao Family, referred to as the Chinese Hamlet, one of four classical Chinese tragedies, is reinterpreted into a physical theater and staged in Seoul. The production is presented by Théâtre de la Feuille which received a deep influence from Jacques Lecoq’s Western methodology, highlighting the interaction with Oriental art traditions. Come and experience the recreated classic, guided only by physical movements on an empty stage in the absence of props.

The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts is Korea’s representative theater with the largest arts group in the nation.The Center aims to serve the role of a public theater and arts group through collaboration efforts of arts group members across 9 different genres by designing, producing and presenting original performing arts distinguished from other institutions.The Seoul Metropolitan Arts Group’s excellent artistic competencies are integrated into ART-9 SEJONG, a comprehensive performance art with a high level of completion beyond genre boundaries. The Sejong Center presents a convergence content exhibition as a means to implement its character as an art complex where various art genres coexist and to propose a new art orientation. Selected from a project contest, this exhibition is arranged to elicit free participation and various creative activities of artists and to foster an open arts space. The sound artist duo, Joh Taebog (GRAYCODE) and Jeong Jinhee (jiiiiin), participates in the exhibition, taking time cycles and its relative concept as their theme to guide the audience’s participation.

Open Space Curatorial Project on Sejong Center

The Open Space Curatorial Project has been running for 20 years since 2001. The project involves art installations in the open space at Sejong Center that blend into the settings so that people can enjoy art in their daily routines and get inspired. Hong Kong Waters & Korean Mountains: Hong Kong and Korea Art Exchange Exhibition

The Sejong Center seeks to introduce excellent cultural art content to citizens by collaborating, exchanging and building networks with cultural art institutions and arts groups from overseas. This exhibition, arranged as a part of cultural arts exchange project between Korea and Hong Kong in 2021, displays paintings of Hong Kong artists who travelled to Jeju and other areas of Korea and captured the landscape. The project also invited Korean painter Lee Waljong who paints the Jeju landscape transmitting his unique feelings.

세종문화회관은 해외 문화예술기관 및 예술단체들과 협력·교류하고 다양한 네트워크를 구축함으로써 시민들에게 우수한 문화예술 콘텐츠를 선보일 것입니다. 2021년 한국과 홍콩의 문화예술 교류 사업의 일환으로 진행되는 이 전시는 홍콩의 예술가들이 제주도를 비롯한 한국의 지방을 여행하고 산수풍경을 그린 회화작품들을 선보입니다. 또한, 제주의 정경을 특유의 정서로 그려내는 한국 작가 이왈종이 함께 참여하여 더욱 풍성한 볼거리를 선사합니다.

The 8th Chongkundang Yesuljisang

An invitation exhibition of the artists nominated in the 2019 Chongkundang Yesuljisang: Yang Yooyeon, Yoo Hyeongyeong, Lee Je. Chongkundang Yesuljisang was instituted to support artists who have participated in major art support projects in the country so that they can work on their creations and grab opportunities to remain active in their field. While many new artists are produced each year, an organized program to provide continued support for them is absent and very few promising artists make their way into the center of the world of art a reality. 2019년 종근당 예술지상에 선정된 작가, 양유연, 유현경, 이제의 초대전입니다. ‘종근당 예술지상’은 국내 주요 미술지원 프로그램에 참여한 바 있는 작가들에게 창작활동을 지원하고 작가로서 더욱 왕성한 활동의 계기를 마련하려는 취지로 기획된 문화예술 사회공헌 프로그램입니다. 매년 수많은 신진 작가들이 배출되고 있지만, 이들을 지속해서 지원하기 위한 체계적인 프로그램은 미흡하고 유망작가들 가운데서도 미술계의 중심에 진입하는 경우는 희박합니다. 본 전시는 가능성을 인정받은 작가들이 본격적으로 성장할 수 있도록 마련한 2차 지원 프로그램으로서, 한 단계 더 도약할 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공합니다.

Mid-Career Artists Exhibition

This exhibition seeks to discover brilliant mid-career artists who have continued their art activities for decades in silence and bring their world of art under the spotlight. Mid-career artists are rather excluded from opportunities to get support for their work compared to young artists. This is part of the efforts to lay stepping stones for these mid-career artists and arrange a life cycle-based support for artists to be distributed adequately. Each year, a separate theme is set to select mid-career artists in their 40s to 50s to display their creative enthusiasm and passionate soul for art.

중견작가전

뛰어난 역량을 가지고 수십 년간 묵묵히 작업을 이어 온 중견작가들을 발굴하고 그들의 예술세계를 집중 조명하는 전시입니다. 청년 작가들에 비해 상대적으로 창작 지원의 기회에서 소외된 중년 작가들에게 재도약의 발판을 마련하고 예술가에 대한 지원을 생애주기별로 적절히 안배하기 위해 기획되었습니다. 매해 새로운 주제에 따라 40~50대 중견작가들을 선정하고 그들의 치열한 창작열과 예술혼을 선보입니다.

Easier access to theaters and closer to the citizens! Sejong Center’s major social contribution project, One Thousand Won Happiness: Total Rest.The program has been loved by the audience for 14 years since 2007 because high quality performances in various genres including classical music, traditional music, drama, etc. can be experienced just with 1,000 won.

— To watch the One Thousand Won Happiness: Total Rest, you can apply online at the beginning of every month and wait for the random selection results.

— For each performance, some seats are reserved for culturally disadvantaged groups and social volunteers called Beautiful People. (subject to a separate application process)

Sejong Arts Academy

The Sejong Arts Academy runs cultural art classes for various genres including classical music, motion picture, opera, art history, musical play, etc. to facilitate people approaching cultural art more easily. The programs range from watching a stage with commentaries to directly participating in a vocal class. The variety of options is well received by housewives, the elderly and office workers around Gwanghwamun Gate who enjoy cultural activities during their lunch time. Also, a variety of programs are offered for people with various backgrounds. For example, there are Saturday programs for children and families, evening programs for business people and professional workers and even orchestra conductor courses for specialists in the relevant field.

세종예술아카데미

The Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra is the nation’s first traditional music orchestra. Established in 1965, aimed at modernization, popularization and globalization of traditional music. Seoul Metropolitan Junior Chorus

Sing tastily. Make bright faces. Bring joyful hearts! The Seoul Metropolitan Junior Chorus is celebrating its 57th anniversary this year since its establishment in 1964 as the Seoul Municipal Children’s Chorus. Members constituting the chorus range from second graders at elementary schools to first graders of high schools who are collectively striving to introduce and discover Korean nursery rhymes in addition to promoting children’s chorus music. Regular concerts are held every year and its presence is seen in various activities including national anniversary events, overseas performances and opera stages.

The Seoul Metropolitan Theatre was first organized in 1997 for citizens enjoying cultural arts through plays. The theatre aims to achieve publicness, artistry and popularity and is oriented towards a theatre closer to people, theatre for people and theatre with people. Based on these objectives and orientation, it presents quality plays on the stage and runs various programs for general people. Its varied repertoire includes classical dramas such as Henry the Fourth, original plays such as Ham-ik and family musical dramas like the Shakespeare Made Easy series. The theatre also operates the Citizen Theatre Class, an experiential learning program for citizens. In addition, its continued efforts in discovering potential plays and artists were recently brought to fruition with Wife, Almonds, etc.

The Seoul Metropolitan Opera (established in 1985) is leading the renaissance of opera in Korea, presenting various plays from premieres unfamiliar to the local audience to creative, modern operas. In particular, its annual Grand Opera play is highly praised by enthusiastic opera fans. The Seoul Metropolitan Opera will further be committed to position itself as an opera company with a global presence beyond Korea through a wider spectrum of production choice, sophisticated music, creative initiatives and efforts to communicate with the public.

Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra

The enthusiastic and fervent harmony of young musicians, filling the entire stage. Established in 1984, the Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra is composed of 120 members divided into four sections. Members are all in their twenties and specialized in instrumental music, who are selected through a strict audition process. These young musicians are influencing the future of classical music in Korea with a broad repertoire including symphony, chamber music, concerto, modern music, etc.

The Sejong Center can be regarded as a living proof of the modern art history of Korea. The Sejong Center opened on April 14, 1978 following the Citizen’s Hall which was destroyed in a fire in 1972. The center has three basement levels and is six stories high; it has now become a complex cultural space equipped with grand and small halls, and conference and exhibition halls. The pipe organ installed in the Grand Theatre was designed by Karl Shuke, Germany, which was the largest in Asia at the time. In July 1999, the Sejong Center was transformed into a foundation, opening the era of a dedicated cultural arts corporation. Through successive innovations and transformations thereafter, it has become an arts performance site with Sejong Grand Theater (3,022 seats), Sejong M Theater (328 seats/variable) and Sejong Chamber Hall (443 seats). It has further developed into a large complex cultural center with additional facilities such as Sejong Arts Academy and F&B spaces in addition to exhibition spaces including Sejong Museum of Art and The story of Sejong, The story of the Admiral Yisunshin Exhibition Hall.The Seoul Metropolitan Arts Group under the Sejong Center has 9 teams. Traditional Orchestra/Youth Traditional Ensemble, Chorus/Junior Chorus, Dance Theatre, Musical Theatre, Theatre, Opera and Youth Orchestra all communicate with people through their performances each year. Since its opening, the Sejong Center has maintained its reputation as a cultural arts institution representing Seoul for 42 years as a living history of Korean performing arts and a space of memories for people who love arts. Its efforts continue until today to expand opportunities for people to enjoy culture.

세종문화회관은 우리나라 현대 예술사의 산증인이라고 할 수 있습니다. 세종문화회관은 1972년 화재로 소실된 시민회관의 뒤를 이어 1978년 4월 14일 개관했습니다. 지하 3층, 지상 6층 규모로 대강당, 소강당, 회의장, 전시장을 갖춘 다목적 복합문화공간이 됐습니다. 당시 대극장에 설치된 파이프오르간은 독일의 ‘칼 슈케’사 작품으로 아시아 최대 규모를 자랑했습니다.1999년 7월에는 재단법인으로 변화를 꾀하며 전문 문화예술법인 시대를 열었습니다. 세종문화회관은 이후 계속되는 혁신과 변화를 통해 세종대극장(3,022석), 세종M씨어터(609석), 세종S씨어터(328석/가변형), 세종체임버홀(443석)을 갖췄습니다. 공연장 외에도 세종미술관, 세종·충무공이야기 등 전시 공간을 확보하고, 세종예술아카데미와 식음료 공간 등 부대시설을 갖춘 대형 복합문화센터로 발전했습니다. 세종문화회관 산하에는 9개의 서울시예술단이 있습니다. 국악관현악단·청소년국악단, 합창단·소년소녀합창단, 무용단, 뮤지컬단, 극단, 오페라단, 유스오케스트라단은 매해 시민들과 소통하는 공연을 선보입니다. 개관 후 42년 동안 한국 공연예술계의 살아있는 역사이자, 예술을 사랑하는 사람들의 추억의 공간, 서울을 대표하는 문화예술기관으로 자리해 온 세종문화회관은 오늘도 시민들의 문화 향유 기회를 확대하기 위해 노력하고 있습니다.

Dream Forest Arts Center

The Dream Forest Arts Center is nestled in the Dream Forest Park built on a 661,000m2 site where Dreamland Amusement Park formerly existed. It received attention as a cultural space where nature and art come together. The Center is striving to become a cultural space communicating with people through various cultural art programs, as trees and forests change their colors in four seasons. 미취학 아동이 있는 관람객들을 위하여 어린이 놀이공간인 ‘아이들세상’을 운영하고 있습니다. 부모님의 공연관람 시간 동안 전문교사가 아이들과 함께 합니다.

장소 야외 중앙계단 위 서비스플라자 내 운영시간 공연시작 30분 전부터 공연종료 후 퇴실시까지 대상 공연 티켓 소지자에 한해 24개월부터 7세까지 아동 위탁 가능. *36개월 미만 아동의 경우 보호자 동반 입장 문의 02-399-1593
