Dear Friends:

I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone taking

part in the 2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament, at

the “My Table Tennis Club Mississauga,” hosted by the Canada

China Association for Economy, Culture, Education and

Technology.

The popularity of table tennis in Canada has grown steadily since the first clubs were

formed in the early 1930s. In recent years, newcomers from China have fostered the

development of the game in Canada and raised the level of skill to new heights.

This international tournament offers a full schedule of matches in four divisions,

along with a rare opportunity to witness World Champions and Olympic medalists in

action. I know that the competitors will meet in a spirit of fair play and with respect

for the game’s traditions.

I commend the organizers for strengthening our nation’s multicultural fabric through

International Table Tennis Tournament at My Table Tennis Club.

champion Mr. Chen Longcan, who would lead the Sichuan Team to participate in the

拿大2016年首届“盛达”熊猫杯国际乒乓球邀请赛诞生了，邀请世界各个地方的乒乓球队前来参赛。首届邀请赛将于六

月在阳光明媚的大多伦多地区密西沙加市举行。

熊猫杯乒乓球邀请赛是加拿大乒乓球界的一大盛事，是我们加拿大华人的骄傲！熊猫杯乒乓球赛的隆重推出，将成

为专业选手弘扬中华传统文化，交流国球技艺的舞台，同时将以全新的方式推动本地众多的业余爱好者更加极积主动地

投入这项群众性的乒乓球运动健身的热潮；熊猫杯乒乓球赛，也是业余选手一年一度的盛大聚会和联欢。在这里，你可

以广交球友，扩大平时打球的圈子，达到强身健体的目的。我们精心安排的赛事规程，更让业余爱好者有绝佳的机会向

专业顶尖好手的现场搏杀，一定会给你带来惊心动魄的体验。众多的乒乓球爱好者的队伍来自中国的同乡会如四川、

重庆、陕西、山西、湖南、安徽、内蒙、江西、成都、自贡等；来自大学校友会如四川大学、哈尔滨工程大学、重庆大

学、成都理工大学等。各参赛队将组织现场啦啦队、拉上横幅为自己的队伍摇旗呐喊；加拿大本地的大型企业代表队，

如加拿大道明银行、加拿大满地可银行等队伍实力强劲；其它也有社区社团队如：Vixs和明教队等。可以预计，比赛现

场一定是人山人海，各路豪杰云集，竞技激烈，精彩纷呈。

1. Tournament Overview:

The First Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament is held in Mississauga, Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Held from June 18 – 19, 2016, this will be a spectacular event for the Chinese-Canadian table tennis community. It promis-es to be a rich and rewarding experience for Canada, China, and other participating countries.

The 2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament is the first of its kind in Canada’s table tennis community. We are thrilled to host this premier event, where professional players compete and showcase their world class skills, promote Chi-nese culture and encourage the exchange of table tennis sports. This tournament will encourage table tennis enthusiasts, especially amongst the Chinese-Canadian community, to participate and to make new friends, while creating awareness of active and healthy living.

Our team of organizers has poured tremendous effort and energy into organizing the Panda Cup tournament. This is a wonderful opportunity for amateur players to test their skills against professionals, and for the curious to learn more about the sport. This event is unprecedented, and it will surely engrave its footprint into the history of Chinese-Canadians.

32 teams are participating in this tournament. Most notably, the world renowned Olympic gold medalist, Chen Longcan, will bring his professional Sichuan team to attend this exciting event. Participants will have the opportunity to witness and feel the adrenaline in a fierce competition among the professionals. The excitement from both players and the audience will bring back the popularity of table tennis as one of the most revered sports.

We are honored to have Team Canada, Team Ontario, Team China Sichuan, Team Hong Kong, Team China Guangdong, Team My Table Tennis and other professional teams join in this tournament. We welcome table tennis teams from numerous Chi-nese hometown associations such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Shanxi, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangxi, Chengdu, Zigong, etc. And, from Chinese University alumni associations such as Sichuan University, Harbin Engineering University, Chongqing University, Chengdu University of Technology, etc.

Teams from the Canadian business community will also compete in this tournament. Other community or club teams include Team Vixs and Team MingJiao. We anticipate large crowds, and cheerleading squads with banners, at this intense tournament

The support from the local government, communities, friends, and entrepreneurs at home and abroad, is essential to the promotion and growth of this sport. We are honored to have members of the Canadian parliament and members of Ontar-io provincial parliament, join us for the opening and closing ceremony.

The 2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament has received tremendous support from Canadian and Chinese en-trepreneurs and businesses. It has provided companies with a rare opportunity to present their business models and their business specialty while engaging each other for further development and growth.

Medals and trophies that will be handed out at the 2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament will be for both table tennis enthusiasts and the professional athletes. China Consulate in Toronto, business leaders, and various representatives from Federal, Pro-vincial, and Municipal governments will present awards to the winners.

2. Highlights of the Tournament:

Professional organizers, professional venue, and professional marketing:Our organizing committee is consisted of professional sport experts and highly experienced personnel in event planning. The tournament venue is recognized and certified by the International Table Tennis Federation and has all the standard equipment necessary for a large scale professional competition.

With on-site broadcasting facilities, there will be “live” coverage of important matches provided by sports channel. Chi-

Large number of participants:In addition to the 32 teams and 160 player participants, families, friends, hometown association members, alumni associ-ation members, businesses, community cheerleading squads, etc. will attend this tournament as well. The total attendance is anticipated between 500 to 1000 people and promises to be one of the largest sports events in the Chinese-Canadian community.

Olympic gold medalist leading a participating team:Chen Longcan, the 1988 Seoul Olympic Champion, will bring his team to participate in the Panda Cup Tournament. Other notable teams include the Canadian National Table Tennis Team and the Ontario Provincial Table Tennis Team. The fierce competition of top ranking athletes will provide the audience with an exciting and unforgettable experience.

Tournament rules strictly enforced by international certified referees: The Executive Committee has organized a professional tournament schedule, which provides a platform for enthusiasts to learn from top-ranked players, and to compete with other competitors. This tournament will be a pioneering sports event in the international sports world.

5. Souvenirs

The mascot of 2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament is a panda called Jia Jia. Panda is China’s national trea-sure. The mascot’s name comes from repeating the first syllable in the Chinese pronunciation of Canada. Jia Jia symbolizes the goal to promote Chinese culture and to encourage the exchange of table tennis sports spirit in Canada.

The organizing committee have created 20cm and 8cm tall versions of the mascot. Each participant and all volunteers will get a 20cm tall Jia Jia mascot, and each audience member will get an 8cm tall Jia Jia mascot.

6. Media Affiliations

2016 Canada Panda Cup Table Tennis Tournament has received tremendous support from a wide variety of media outlets in Canada and China. Sina Online and Xinhua News Agency are the main media sponsors in China. The Sichuan television station will provide the tournament with recorded broadcast service. Canadian media will report this tournament.

The two opposing teams has to play two singles matches and two doubles matches. If ties at 2:2, an additional singles match will be played for 7 points (the team that reaches 7 points first wins). Each member of a team can play maximum two matches only.

Stage 1: Group round robin. There are 34 teams in total. 6 seeded teams: Team Sichuan, Team Hongkong, Team Canada, Team My Table Tennis, Team Pan Am and Team ShengDa get a bye to compete in the second stage directly. The remaining 28 team will be divided into 8 groups by random drawing. 4 groups consist of 4 teams and 4 groups with 3 teams, to compete for the position of A, B, C or D. The best of 3 games. 11 points per game.

Stage 2: Single elimination. All teams that won position A in their round robin group will be regrouped in Division “a” to com-pete in a single knock-out format. The two finalists will join the 6 seeded teams to compete in Division A for the top honour. A team that won a B positions in its group will continue to compete in Division B with other B teams in the same single knock-out format to decide the winner, second place and third place. The same to C and D teams. The best of 3 games for quarter finals and semi-finals. The best of 5 games for bronze medal matches and finals. 11 points per game.

“盛达”熊猫杯特邀嘉宾

自小喜爱乒乓球，1973年正式开始学球，1978年进入

四川省队，1979年进入国家青年队，1983年11月进入国家

队。1985年，陈于在瑞典哥德堡举行的第38届世乒赛中击败

瓦尔德内尔等名将，获得团体冠军和个人亚军。1986年，世

界杯乒乓球赛在特立尼达和多巴哥举行，陈击败阿佩伊伦、

斋藤清、卢传淞和江嘉良，获得冠军。其后陈转攻双打，同

韦晴光合作先后获得第39届世乒赛和汉城奥运会男子双打冠

军。1990年北京亚运会开幕式上，陈龙灿作为运动员代表宣

誓。1991年，陈龙灿退役。

1992年，陈赴日本职业俱乐部打球，2001年，陈龙灿结

束球员生涯，转型为教练，曾任日本女子乒乓球运动员福原

爱的教练。不久，陈龙灿决定回到故乡，出任四川乒乓球女

队领队。2005年，陈从西南财经大学毕业，获得MBA学位。

同年，陈被任命为四川乒乓球男队主教练，但不久因种种原

因，转而出任男队总教练闲职。2007年，陈龙灿成为四川省

乒羽中心主任助理，分管乒乓球。2010年，陈龙灿受聘为西

华大学体育学院副教授。

奥运冠军：陈龙灿

世界冠军：李惠芬

李惠芬于1976年进入河北省乒乓球队，80年代入选中国

国家乒乓球队，在1980年参加埃及亚历山大国际少年赛取得

四项冠军，五年后（1985年）夺得美国乒乓球公开赛女团、

女单、女双、混双冠军，同年亦夺得全国女团，女单，女双

冠军，并且保持不败，1986年取得第八届亚乒赛冠军，1987

年夺得第三十九届世乒赛女子团体冠军、女双亚军、中华人

民共和国第六届全国运动会女双冠军，1988年获得中国乒协

杯混双冠军、汉城奥运乒乓球女子单打亚军。1989年夺得第

四十届世乒赛女子团体冠军、女双亚军。

李惠芬在15年运动员生涯中，共取得37冠16亚16季，曾

经被评为全国乒乓球十佳运动员。

李惠芬退役后与前国家队队友惠钧结婚，亦曾去日本打

球三年，回国后任国家青年队教练，亦曾在国家体育总局乒

乓球管理中心开发部工作。在1998年出任中国香港女子队教

练，曾率港乒女队获得世乒赛女子团体亚军。2013年世乒赛

结束后，李惠芬与丈夫惠钧一同退休。
