The annual Street Legends Classic Car Show rolls into Charlevoix on Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16. CHARLEVOIX — The 24rd annual Charlevoix Street Leg-ends Classic Car Show cruises into town Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16, in down-town Charlevoix.

The event kicks off with a Downtown Cruise-In at 6 p.m. on July 17. The cruise-in includes a free concert at the pavilion at 7 p.m. in East Park with band “The Ledger-man.” Car enthusiasts are encouraged to join the fun before the downtown cruise-in by meeting at 4:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church parking lot, 11906 U.S. 31 N., for a cruise around Lake Charlevoix.

Registration for the actual show begins at 8 a.m. Satur-day and the show starts at 10 a.m. categories for classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. Goody bags and dash plaques will be available for the first 150 registrants.

Awards for Best Interior,

Best Paint, Best Engineered and Best of Show and a grand prize of $500 will be awarded, also cash prizes of $250 and $100 will be awarded to reg-istered participants. Give-aways, music, 50/50 drawings and a silent auction will take place throughout the day.

“The Charlevoix Street Leg-ends partner with our local

businesses to offer a variety of fun items for our silent auction, which plays a big part in our fundraising ef-forts,” said member Claudia Bost. “We appreciate and value their generosity.”

Local car enthusiasts of the Charlevoix area formed the Street Legends Classic Car Club in 1992. The Charlevoix

Street Legends is committed to helping the community through financial support. The Street Legends distrib-utes funds raised from its an-nual car show to charities and nonprofit organizations lo-cally. The past 24 years Street Legends has returned more than $140,000 to the commu-nity, Bost said.

“Car clubs provide fun entertainment and cruise opportunities for members,” Bost said. “But not all car clubs capture and incorpo-rate the spirit of “paying it forward” to their community. Over the last 24 years, it has become the driving mission of the Charlevoix Street Leg-ends Classic Car Club to help promote and sponsor very worthy programs within the Charlevoix community.”

“Though our member-ship represents a wide range of walks of life, we remain united in our vision to help others,” she added. “We hope to bring more than 150 cars to the 24th annual car show and provide a day of fun for all ages, while raising funds to distribute to local community programs later in the year.”

Summer has finally arrived in Charlevoix, bringing eager guests to its streets. Although the traffic is heavier

and work days are busier, it is important to represent Charlevoix and its businesses well.

Charlevoix’s year-round population of 2,500 swells to 10 times that amount during its summer months, not only bringing visitors from across our nation but from across the ocean.

In the chamber office, visi-tors can put a pin in our map indicating where home is for them, and how far they came to get here. At the chamber we have served visitors from South Africa, Germany, Italy, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia to name only a few. For the visi-tors who have never been here before, your business and our chamber are their first encoun-ter with what Charlevoix has to offer.

Bearing this in mind, we must use a positive demeanor to ac-curately portray Charlevoix, sell Charlevoix to our first-timers, and ultimately keep them coming back to our wonderful town. At the Customer Service Training hosted at Charlevoix Public Library, speaker B.J. Shawn, CEO of Bearcub Outfit-ters in Petoskey, spoke to local staff of Charlevoix downtown businesses about their role in Charlevoix.

No matter what type of busi-ness or service you provide to the community, you are an am-bassador of Charlevoix; it is not just the job of the chamber’s ambassador committee to rep-resent the town. According to Shawn, as an employee and res-ident of Charlevoix, we are on the front lines providing a first impression of our town and we are members of many teams: our business, Charlevoix, downtown Charlevoix, the

chamber, and, on a grander scale, North-ern Michigan and surround-ing areas of Charlevoix.

As ambas-sadors of Charlevoix, we must remem-ber to work as a team, wheth-er that be refer-ring customers to our local restaurants, giving visitors directions, or even research-ing things to do in Charlevoix to better as-sist visitors. Familiarize yourself with ev-erything our local community has to offer. As a year-round local, just by taking a tour of one of Charlevoix’s attractions and researching businesses you would be surprised by how much you would learn that you thought you knew, or didn’t know at all.
