season outlook

the Manhattan women’s soccer team has a renewed vision for the 2012 campaign under the direction of third year head coach Brendan lawler. Coming off an injury plagued 2011 season, which resulted in nine one goal losses, the Jaspers are focused on qualifying for the four-team MaaC Championships field and look to vie for the conference crown.

Manhattan’s roster consists of a variety of experience with eight returning starters from last season, and the squad possesses more depth than in recent years by welcoming 12 newcomers to the program. the Jaspers will rally around senior captain Kara Davis who has established herself as one of the premier goalkeepers in the Metro atlantic athletic Conference.

“we fully expect our returning starters to be the strong core of a team we believe can contend,” said lawler. “Martine Diamond and Janie schlauder will be relied on to lead our attack. Kara Davis will hold down the fort in the back with the help of shannon Barry. we know the rest of our returnees will play major roles, possibly in new positions, and our incoming players will compete for impactful minutes from day one.

“the great thing about this roster is that we will have real depth and competitive balance. our incoming players, both freshmen and transfers, are going to make us deeper than we have ever been before. we expect them to raise our level of play from the beginning.”

Davis returns to the field in full strength coming back from a season ending injury that she suffered in the second to last game in 2011. In her first three seasons, Davis has helped the Jaspers to 15 wins, secure 10 shutouts and has made 288 career saves.

the Jaspers return two thirds of its scoring offense from 2011. Manhattan has three of its top four point scorers back, including Diamond who led the team with 11 points and five goals last season.

“our expectation for this team is we want each player to work as hard mentally and physically every day, while also giving their teammates the support they need to do their best. If we can accomplish this, positive results will follow,” said lawler.

ForwarDManhattan has several options up front

beginning with Diamond who has evolved into one of the top offensive threats in the MaaC. starting all 16 appearances last season, the junior ranked in the top-10 of the MaaC in goals scored and fired a team-high 34 shots. the 5’6” forward from Island Park, n.Y. is a dynamic player who can create opportunities off the dribble and make great runs off the ball.

schlauder will work alongside Diamond for the second straight year since transitioning to the front line after playing in the back as a freshman. In 2011, she started 14 of 16 games, tallied five points and led Manhattan in assists. schlauder is an offensive threat who has good vision of the field with a precise passing ability.

“we know that Martine and Janie can be as dangerous an attacking pair as there is in the conference,” explained lawler. “with the experience we have returning and the goal scoring ability of our newcomers, our strategy will be finding the best way possible to have as many goal scorers on the field at the same time.”

seniors Kayla howden and allison Pfeiffer will also look to make an impact up front. they are two of the most experienced players on the squad each seeing action in over 50 games during their careers in riverdale. howden can give the Jaspers an added scoring punch with her ability to create her own shot off the dribble. she has fired 40 shots over the last two seasons with the Jaspers.

Pfeiffer scored three points in 16 appearances last season, including a goal to help Manhattan earn a 2-1 victory at saint Peter’s. the 5’9” native of Floral Park, n.Y. has good sense around the goal and has proved her ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Pfeiffer is a versatile athlete who can be utilized in the back.

Freshman emily Ude, tiffanie McIntosh and sam washuk bring additional firepower to the front line. Ude comes to Manhattan from north Babylon high school where she graduated with the school’s career assist record (32) and is third all-time in program history for goals scored (37). she has a dynamic attacking ability that features a knack to score around the goal in a variety of ways.

McIntosh was a new York state Class C First team honoree at lansing high school where she helped the program garner a no. 2 state ranking as a senior with a 16-2 record. she is a physical forward with good technical ability and quickness. washuk, a native of Milford, Conn., enjoyed a successful high school career at Joseph a. Foran where she was a four year starter and earned hammonasset all Division honors. she possesses a strong tactical understanding of the game.

miDFielDthe Jaspers have many options at

the midfield position, which include upperclassmen Brittany egan and alex Iovine, along with several newcomers who will compete for playing time.

“the midfield will again be a difficult line to sort out,” lawler said. “we want to be more physical in the air and attack minded at the same time. It is our strong belief that by moving players around, returning players and incoming players, we will have the pieces needed to gain the physicality and scoring threats we are looking for.”

egan, a native of orangeburg, n.Y., has appeared in 31 games during her career at Manhattan. she brings this experience and a good understanding of the game to the midfield. Iovine looks to build on a solid 2011 campaign where she started 15 of 16 appearances. the 5’3” junior from Canton, Conn. has good technical skills and versatility to the turf.

transfers aislinn McIlvenny and Daniella Morgante will challenge for playing time immediately. McIlvenny returns to new York from Charleston southern University in south Carolina where she started all 17 appearances last season and recorded four points. McIlvenny hails from Pleasant Valley, n.Y. and was a two-time all-state selection at

season outlookarlington high school. Morgante spent her freshman year in the atlantic 10 conference at saint Joseph’s University. the amawalk, n.Y. native was a four year starter at somers high school.

Freshmen Mary hijazi and Catherine Kinney will also compete for minutes at the midfield. hijazi is a 5’7” product of Merrick, n.Y. who started all four years at sanford h. Calhoun high school. she is a technical midfielder with the ability to orchestrate tempo and direction of attacks. Kinney comes to Manhattan from smithtown, n.Y. where she was an all-County honoree at smithtown west. Kinney offers good technical ability and quickness to the lineup.

BackManhattan’s strength is expected to be in

its backline which consists of senior Claire reinhard and junior shannon Barry. seniors nicole landes and sara Jones will add to the Jaspers’ highly experienced defensive unit.

“we have tremendous depth in the back this year,” lawler said. “as a coaching staff, our most difficult decision this year will be deciding our outside backs, because of the talent returning and coming into the program. we will also consider transitioning forwards to the back in order to create more of an attacking mentality in this area.”

reinhard has started all 33 appearances for the Jaspers since transferring to Manhattan two years ago. the 5’8” native of ridgewood, n.J. is an excellent technical player who can excel in the middle of the field. her versatility allows her to also play at the midfield.

Barry emerged as a reliable option in the back as a sophomore starting in all 16 appearances. the 5’8” product of arlington high school has good fundamentals, she is a major presence in the air and is strong in tackles.

landes returns to the backline where she saw action in all 17 games last season, making 11 starts. she is a physical defender with good speed and knowledge of the game. Jones appeared in 15 games earning five starts in 2011. she is also a tough defender who has the ability to attack out of the back.

returnees Keara hunt and shannon garrity give Manhattan additional options on the backline. hunt enters her junior campaign with 21 career matches under her belt. she is a fearless defender who showed a glimpse of her offensive ability last season when she posted the game winning goal in a victory over albany at gaelic Park. garrity made 14 appearances during her freshman campaign in 2011. she looks to build on this experience as she adds depth to a talented

Pogulis and taylor salkowsky may also have the opportunity to bolster the Jaspers’ defensive unit. Kavanagh hails from rockville Centre, n.Y. and was a three year starter at sacred heart academy. she brings versatility to the roster with her ability to play in the middle or out wide. Pogulis is a 5’7” defender from Monroe-woodbury high school where she started three years on the varsity squad. salkowsky is from Massapequa Park, n.Y. and enjoyed a successful career at st. anthony’s high school where she started all four years. the 5’7” back helped lead st. anthony’s to the 2011 new York state Chsaa Class aa Championship.

goalkeePerssenior captain Kara Davis will anchor the

defensive unit once again in her final season in riverdale. Davis, a MaaC all-rookie team selection in 2009, burst onto the scene as a freshman and has started 50 of 51 career appearances. she is coming off a career year where she posted 127 saves and maintained a .836 save percentage.

“Kara was one of the top goalkeepers in the conference last year and we know she will be again this year,” said lawler. “her athletic ability, desire, and ability to make those around her better will go a long way in the development of Maria (sanzari) and Kristen (skoniecnzy).”

Junior goalkeeper Maria sanzari and freshman Kristen skonieczny will back up Davis this season. sanzari made three appearances in 2011 and started the final game of the year against loyola in lieu of the injured Davis. skonieczny is a 5’7” goaltender who was a three year varsity starter at arlington high school. as a senior, she helped lead arlington to the new York state section I Championship and advance to the Class aa title contest. skonieczny is a fearless competitor who brings a high level of experience to riverdale.

scheDulethe Manhattan women’s soccer team will

play a 17-game campaign in 2012 featuring eight home matches at gaelic Park. In addition to nine competitive Metro atlantic athletic Conference (MaaC) contests, Manhattan’s out-of-league schedule features teams from the atlantic 10 and the Patriot league. Manhattan opens the regular-season on august 24 under the lights at archrival Fordham.

the Jaspers start their journey to compete for the 2012 MaaC Championship on august 12 with a scrimmage at Central Connecticut state University. the squad tunes up once more before the regular-season on august 18 with the green & white scrimmage at gaelic Park.

Manhattan is set to play its opening three games on the road. the Jaspers kick off at Fordham (aug. 24) for the annual ‘Battle of the Bronx’ looking to knock off the rams for the second straight season. Manhattan will then travel to Delaware state (aug. 26) and sacred heart (sept. 2) before returning to riverdale for its home opener with lafayette on sept. 7. the leopards are coming off a second place finish in the Patriot league in 2011.

on sept. 9, the Jaspers visit atlantic 10 opponent rhode Island. Manhattan returns to gaelic Park three days later for a midweek home match with northeast Conference member wagner (sept. 12). Manhattan then squares off at stony Brook (sept. 14) and wraps up the non-conference portion of the schedule at home against holy Cross (sept. 22), which begins a four game home stand.

MaaC play opens on sept. 29 against saint Peter’s. rider (oct. 5) and loyola (oct. 7) come to riverdale the following weekend. the Jaspers next destination is western new York where they will take on niagara (oct. 12) and Canisius (oct. 14).

Manhattan hosts defending MaaC champion Marist (oct. 19) and siena (oct. 21) for the final home weekend of the year. the Jaspers complete the regular-season with a pair of road games against Iona (oct. 26) and Fairfield (oct. 28).

the 2012 MaaC women’s soccer Championships will be held at tenney stadium at leonidoff Field on the Marist College campus nov. 2 & 4. the top four teams in the conference will qualify for the tournament. the league champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2012 nCaa tournament.


Brendan lawler enters his third season as head women’s soccer coach at Manhattan College. lawler has rejuvenated the Jaspers program through strong local recruiting in the tri-state area. he has guided Manhattan to eight wins and three draws during his first two seasons with a youthful roster that has showed much promise for the future.

the Jaspers have excelled academically during lawler’s tenure in riverdale mentoring 13 MaaC all-academic team honorees. Manhattan was also recognized in 2011 by the national soccer Coaches association of america (nsCaa) with a team academic award.

lawler brings nine years of coaching experience to the turf, including previous collegiate coaching stints at the United states Military academy and Marist College. a graduate of saint Peter’s University, lawler was a goalkeeper for the Peacocks’ men’s soccer program.

lawler came to riverdale from Marist College where he served as an assistant for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons under head coach elizabeth roper. the newburgh, n.Y., native was responsible for assisting with the coordination of training sessions, recruiting student-athletes and scouting opponents. During his time with the red Foxes, lawler mentored a goalkeeping unit which recorded eight shutouts and he helped develop four all-MaaC rookie team selections in his two seasons. lawler also worked with the Marist men’s soccer team’s goalkeepers in 2009.

In three years at west Point working with former men’s head coach Kurt swanbeck, lawler primarily trained the goalkeepers and defensive unit from 2006-2009. In 2007, the Black Knights posted their highest win total in over 10 years.

Brendan lawler

lawler has been a member of the goalkeeping coaching staff for the United states soccer Federation region I olympic Development Program since 2007. working within the town of wallkill soccer Club in Middletown, n.Y. for five years, lawler was the head coach of the girl’s under-18 red Devils premier team. since 2005, lawler also served as a girls olympic Development Program head coach within eastern new York Youth soccer.

at the high school level, lawler was the head girls varsity coach at Pine Bush from 2003-2005. In 2005, he led the program to the school’s first-ever section IX Championship.

lawler played Division I soccer and graduated cum laude from saint Peter’s University earning a bachelor’s of arts in political science with minors in secondary education and history in 2002. lawler was a teacher at Pine Bush high school for four years before pursuing a master’s degree in political science.

lawler holds a United states soccer Federation a license and a national soccer Coaches association of america (nsCaa) advanced national goalkeeping diploma with distinguished pass. he currently serves as an instructor for the nsCaa goalkeeping academy.

kara Bucci ‘11

Former Jasper standout defender Kara Bucci ‘11 enters her first year as the top assistant for the Manhattan women’s soccer program. Bucci started 59 of 70 appearances over her career and was a two-time team captain. the three-time MaaC all-academic team honoree was a key part of a Jaspers defensive unit that posted 20 shutouts during her four years with the program.

Bucci brings a plethora of instructional experience to the program from her time as a counselor at several collegiate soccer camps and clinics. additionally, Bucci has worked as an evaluator for the eastern new York olympic Development Program.

Bucci, a native of newburgh, n.Y., scored five points over her career, including two goals and one assist. In four seasons, Bucci helped lift the Jaspers to 27 wins and 11 draws. Bucci enjoyed a break out campaign during her sophomore year when she started all 16 appearances contributing to five shutouts and a minimal 1.32 goals against average. as team captain in her final two seasons, Bucci led Manhattan to nine shutouts.

a true student-athlete, Bucci was named to the Metro atlantic athletic Conference academic honor roll three times during her career. she graduated from Manhattan with a bachelor’s of arts degree in psychology.

with 10 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro atlantic athletic Conference is in its 31st year of competition during the 2011-2012 academic year.

the MaaC was founded in 1980 by six charter members: the U.s. Military academy, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Iona College, Manhattan College and saint Peter’s College. Competition followed one year later in the fall of 1981 with members competing in the sports of men’s cross country and men’s soccer. on January 2, 1982, army traveled to Iona for the first MaaC men’s basketball game and the MaaC story had begun.

today, Conference members include: Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, loyola University Maryland, Manhattan College, Marist College, niagara University, rider University, saint Peter’s College, and siena College. In addition, associate members include the University of Detroit Mercy, Jacksonville University and Virginia Military Institute in men’s lacrosse. st. Francis (n.Y.) College, Villanova University, VMI and wagner College are all associate members of the MaaC women’s water Polo league. Drake University, robert Morris University and sacred heart University compete in women’s rowing, while the University at albany, Boston University and the University of hartford began competition in women’s golf in the spring of 2010. the MaaC will support 24 sports and championships during the 2011-2012 academic year.

the MaaC Basketball Championships move to springfield’s MassMutual Center to host the 2012-2014 championships. By having an excellent working relationship with various facilities, the MaaC has been able to attract a number of nCaa Championship events. Most recently, the MaaC and rider co-hosted the 2011 nCaa Division I wrestling Championships at the wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. the MaaC, Canisius College and niagara University successfully hosted the 2010 nCaa Division I Men’s Basketball Championship First and second rounds at the hsBC arena in Buffalo, new York. all three parties hosted the event in 2004 and 2007. the MaaC and rider University co-hosted the 2009 nCaa Division I women’s Basketball Championship regional at the sovereign Bank arena in trenton, n.J., after recording the third highest attendance figure for the women’s championship with the First and second rounds in 2006. the MaaC and rider will work together to co-host the 2012 nCaa rowing Championships at Mercer lake in west windsor, new Jersey.

maac associate sPortsIn June of 1995, the MaaC continued to develop opportunities for student-

athletes as the conference announced the formation of the MaaC Men’s and women’s lacrosse leagues. the men’s league began competition in the spring of 1996, while the women’s league commenced in the spring of 1997. the men’s league consists of four MaaC schools -- Canisius, Manhattan, Marist, and siena – and three associate members – Detroit, Jacksonville and Virginia Military Institute. the women’s league consists of MaaC institutions Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, niagara and siena.

In 2002, the MaaC added the MaaC women’s water Polo league. the league is currently made up of three MaaC schools – Iona, Marist and siena – as well as four associate members, st. Francis (n.Y.), Villanova, VMI and wagner.

sacred heart started participating in MaaC women’s rowing in the spring of 2008. Drake University joined the league for the 2010 MaaC Championship, while robert Morris began competition in the spring of 2011.

In the summer of 2009, the MaaC added three associate members – albany, Boston University and hartford – to women’s golf, with the programs starting competition against MaaC members Fairfield, niagara and siena in 2009-2010.

acaDemics anD athletics

the MaaC prides itself on the accomplishments of its student-athletes in the classroom, as well as on the field. Mary Beth riley, a 1991 graduate of Canisius, was the first recipient of the nCaa woman of the Year award. In the fall of 1998, erin whalen, a member of the Iona women’s rowing team, was awarded one of the nation’s 32 rhodes scholarships for academic achievement and civic leadership. Jose Vargas, a loyola student, was also awarded a rhodes scholarship in 1999.

First-class facilities are the rule with MaaC schools, as teams regularly play in top-notch arenas,

such as Madison square garden, the IZoD Center, hsBC arena, times Union Center, the arena at harbor Yard and the sun national Bank Center. the other MaaC championships boast their share of outstanding locales as well, such as the reverend harold ridley, s.J., athletic Complex at loyola, where the women’s soccer championship will be contested in the fall of 2011, and Joe Bruno stadium in troy, new York, home of the 2012 MaaC Baseball Championship. this year, the MaaC will take its men’s championship to orlando, Florida, where it will conduct its post-season event at the esPn wide world of sports Complex. the MaaC Men’s and women’s golf Championships will be held at Disney’s Magnolia golf Course.

In the past several years, a number of the MaaC schools have also enjoyed success in nCaa Championships. MaaC schools have made a total of 77 nIt appearances and 47 nCaa appearances. In addition, Iona and rider participated in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason tournament, with the gaels advancing to the championship game. the Manhattan women participated in the women’s Basketball Invitational, reaching the semifinal round of the tournament. the MaaC currently possesses 13 automatic bids to nCaa Championships in men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and women’s water polo. In 2007, the Marist women’s basketball team advanced to the sweet 16 before falling to the eventual national Champion, the University of tennessee. In the fall of 2009, the no. 11 Iona men’s cross country team finished tied for eighth place at the nCaa Championship race, extended the gaels’ streak to eight straight top 10 national finishes. Iona softball, Manhattan track, Manhattan baseball and loyola lacrosse have also flourished on the national stage.

the MaaC has also been a leader in the forefront of technology, expanding the notoriety of the league into cyberspace. In 2007, the league reached an agreement with JumptV, Inc., now neulion, Inc., to design the MaaC web page. MaaCsports.com has been a great success, providing fans with up-to-date contest results, live and on-demand video and an online merchandise store. the MaaC, in conjunction with neulion, launched an iPhone app in February 2011. the league is looking to expand its offerings with android and iPod apps, scheduled for release during the 2011-12 academic year.

Dr. Brennan o’Donnell is the 19th president of Manhat-tan College, having assumed the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2009.

Dr. o’Donnell comes to Manhattan from Fordham Col-lege at rose hill, Fordham University’s oldest and larg-est school. as dean of Fordham College, he was the chief academic officer of a College of arts and sciences enrolling about 3,200 students under a faculty of more than 200.

Before coming to new York, Dr. o’Donnell spent 17 years at loyola College in Maryland (now loyola University Mary-land), where he served as a professor of english and, from 1999-2004, as director of the university-wide honors Pro-gram. an active scholar, his teaching and research interests focus mainly upon poetry, especially of the British romantic period, and on religion and literature, particularly contem-porary american Catholic writers. he has authored two books on the poetry of william wordsworth and co-edited the work of andre Dubus, a collection of essays published as a double issue of religion and the arts. In addition, Dr. o’Donnell has published articles, essays and reviews in some of the leading journals in his field. at Manhattan, he will continue to hold a faculty appointment, as he had at Fordham and loyola, as professor of english.

as the first president of the College not to be a member of the Brothers of the Christian schools, Dr. o’Donnell is treading new ground at Manhattan College. he has experi-ence in such transitions, however, as he was also the first layperson to serve as dean of Fordham College at rose hill.

his publications and lectures demonstrate a keen engage-ment in issues of faith and education, specifically Catholic higher education. From 1994–2000, he served as editor of the national magazine Conversations on Jesuit higher education, and he was a member of the national seminar on Jesuit higher education from 1993–2000. In addition, he has served as a board member for the lilly Fellows Program and for Collegium, a consortium of Catholic universities that strives to strengthen faculty understanding of and participa-tion in the mission of Catholic higher education.

a native of Pennsylvania’s wyoming Valley, Dr. o’Donnell earned his B.a. with highest distinction and honors in english at the Pennsylvania state University in 1981, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. he earned an M.a. and a Ph.D. at the University of north Carolina at Chapel hill in english and american literature and language. he is the recipient of numerous fellowships, grants, awards and honors.

Dr. o’Donnell is married to angela o’Donnell (formerly alaimo), a poet and writer who teaches at Fordham, where she serves as associate director of the Francis and ann Cur-ran Center for american Catholic studies. the couple has three sons: Charles (a graduate of saint John’s University, Minnesota, and a teacher in the st. Paul, Minnesota, public schools), Patrick (a 2009 graduate of Columbia Univer-sity, currently pursuing graduate studies in philosophy in leuven, Belgium), and will (a senior english major at Fordham).


a 1968 graduate of Manhattan College, Byrnes en-ters his 25th year as director of athletics.

since his arrival back to riverdale in May of 1988, Byrnes has presided over a renaissance period in Manhattan College athletics. During his tenure, the men’s and women’s basketball programs have earned eight nCaa tournament bids (four women, four men). additionally, the Jaspers have appeared in five postseason and preseason national Invitational tournaments (nIt). women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse began competition at the Division I level under Byrnes, and 14 different teams have won conference championships-men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s outdoor track, men’s and women’s basket-ball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, volleyball, men’s tennis, softball and baseball. In addition, to date, 27 student-athletes have received all-america honors for both athletic and academic achievements.

Before returning to Manhattan, Byrnes spent 13 years with the Morrison-Knudsen Company, one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the nation.

a native of garrison, new York, Byrnes earned his undergraduate degree in physical education with a minor in biology. he also holds an M.B.a. from City University in seattle, washington.

as an undergraduate, Byrnes was a member of the Jaspers’ club football team. Byrnes served as team captain and played both defensive tackle and offensive

end. he spent one season as an assistant coach and helped guide Manhattan to a 6-2 overall record in 1969.

Upon graduation, Byrnes began a teaching and coaching career at Queen of Peace high school in north arlington, new Jersey. he also served as the school’s director of athletics from 1970-73. Under his leadership, Queen of Peace registered state tourna-ment appearances in baseball and basketball, while also capturing the Parochial “B” state Championship in football (1972).

In addition to his responsibilities at Manhattan, By-rnes served two stints (1997-99, 2004-06) as president of the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball associa-tion, at one time the sponsoring body of the nIt. he also served on the nCaa Championship Committee in 1999-2000. he is currently the chair of the Metro atlantic athletic Conference (MaaC) Men’s Basketball Committee and the Committee on athletic admin-istration, as well as a member of the eCaC officials negotiating Committee. In recognition of his years of outstanding contributions to Jasper athletics, Byrnes was inducted into the Manhattan College athletic hall of Fame in 2004.

Byrnes resides in Croton-on-hudson, new York, along with his wife, rosemary. he is the father of five children: Bob, Carolyn (Manhattan ’97), Brian (Man-hattan ’99), Darren and Brigid.

Doug straley was promoted to assistant athletic Director for sports Medicine in august 2009, after serving as Manhattan’s Director of sports Medicine for the previous six years. straley supervises the athletic training of the 300+ student-athletes who compete for Manhattan’s 19 Division I athletic teams.

Prior to his arrival in riverdale, straley served as the director of sports medicine at Manhattanville College in nearby Purchase, nY. at Manhattanville, he coordinated the rehabilitation, prevention, and management of athletic injuries for over 250 intercollegiate nCaa Division III student-athletes.

Before his tenure at Manhattanville, straley worked for three years as the assistant director of sports medicine at assumption College. he assisted with the medical care of the athletic program’s 19 Division II varsity sport teams.

straley, a 1998 graduate of northeastern University, worked as a student athletic trainer during his undergraduate years. In 1999, he received a master of science degree in athletic training from University of tennessee at Chattanooga.

additionally, straley served as the head athletic trainer for the westchester wildfire, a United states Basketball league (UsBl) team coached by former new York Knick John starks.

straley had been published on numerous occasions, and has made several presentations based upon his research in the field of athletic training.

straley holds athletic training licenses in new York, Massachusetts, and georgia, and is a member of the national athletic trainers association and the national strength and Conditioning association. he is certified as a strength and Conditioning specialist, as an athletic trainer, and in CPr and First aid. a decorated eagle scout, straley won the Koko Kassabian award while at northeastern for outstanding achievement in leadership, scholarship, and professional development.

a native of newton, Mass., straley currently resides in Dobbs Ferry, nY with his wife Jennifer and their daughter annabelle.
