The UAB women's basketball team will travel to Auburn, Ala. totake on the Tigers of Auburn University on Sunday afternoon in thesecond round of the 2007 Women's National InvitationTournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.

The Blazers earned the trip to Auburn after defeating the DavidsonWildcats, 81-77, Thursday evening at Bartow Arena in a first-roundgame. Auburn received a first-round bye and will open its postsea-son play against the Blazers.

UAB and Auburn have clashed 28 times on the hardwood, with theTigers holding the all-time series advantage, 24-4. The previousmeeting was on December 3, 2002 in Auburn, Ala., where theTigers got a 76-58 win over the Blazers. The last time UAB defeat-ed Auburn was by a count of 57-56 on January 15, 1992 in BartowArena.

The Blazers are making their fourth run in the WNIT, with their bestshowing coming in 2000 when they advanced to the Elite Eight.UAB has a 6-4 all-time record in WNIT games.

This season marks Auburn’s second appearance in the WNIT. TheTigers won the WNIT title in 2003 by defeating Baylor in the cham-pionship game, 64-63, in their only other appearance in the tourna-ment.

UAB Earns First Postseason Berth inSix SeasonsAfter posting an 18-12 overall record inthe regular season and placing secondin the Conference USA standings, theBlazers have earned an at-large berthinto the Women’s National InvitationTournament. This marks UAB’s firstpostseason appearance since the2000-01 season, when the Blazersadvanced to the Elite Eight in the WNIT.

Auburn TigersAfter defeating the Davidson Wildcats, 81-77, on Thursday eveningduring the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament,the Blazers will now take on the Auburn Tigers on Sunday afternoon inAuburn, Ala. in a second-round matchup.

Auburn, which earned a first-round bye, is making its second all-timeappearance in the WNIT. The Tigers’ first trip to the WNIT was in 2003,where they topped Baylor 64-63 in the championship game to takehome the title.

The Tigers, a member of the Southeastern Conference, posted anoverall record of 19-12 this season, including a 6-8 mark in league play.Auburn was ousted from the SEC tournament in the first round bySouth Carolina, 65-63.

Postseason RecordThe Blazers have an overall record of 8-6 in postseason play, includinga 6-4 mark in WNIT games. UAB has advanced to the NCAA tourn-ment on two occasions, including an appearance in the Sweet 16 in2000.

New Kids On The BlockUAB’s WNIT appearance this season is the first for UAB head coachAudra Smith at the helm of the Blazers’ program, as well as the first forevery member of the team.

Smith competed in three consecutive NCAA Final Fours as a player atthe University of Virginia from 1990-92. She also made eight showingsin teh NCAA tournament as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers.

Smith and company made their WNIT debut with a win over Davidsonin the first round, 81-77, on Thursday evening.

LLaasstt OOuuttiinnggThe UAB women's basketball team defeated the DavidsonWildcats, 81-77, on Thursday evening at Bartow Arena in aWNIT first round game.

UAB senior Carmen Guzman tallied her 30th consecutivedouble-digit scoring game with 20 points on 7-of-17 shootingand 5-of-9 from the free throw line. This also marksGuzman's third consecutive 20-point effort, and her 22nd ofthe season. In addition, Guzman recorded her sixth double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds to her 20points.

Sophomore Britney Jones sank eight buckets, including twofrom three-point range, for a total of 20 points against theWildcats. Junior Diamond Rogers was the third Blazer indouble figures with 18 points, eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Davidson was led by Jessica Mitchell with 24 points on 9-of-15 from the floor, including four treys. Mitchell also led theteam in assists with seven. Brynn Kelly was the only otherWildcat to score in double figures, adding 12 points and ateam-high 11 boards to Davidson's total.

BBllaazzeerr DDuuoo NNaammeedd AAllll--CCoonnffeerreennccee UUSSAAAfter sporting an 18-12 overall record and a 12-4 mark inleague play that earned them the second seed in the C-USAtournament, the Blazers have earned two spots on the All-Conference USA teams.

Senior Carmen Guzman repeats as a member of theleague’s first-team, having previously been named to the all-conference squad as a junior. Junior Diamond Rogers is anewcomer to the All-C-USA team, earning a place on thesecond team.

CCoolllleeccttiinngg HHaarrddwwaarreeCarmen Guzman continues to collect hardware this season,earning numerous accolades for her performance during hersenior campaign. A first-team All-Conference USA honoree,she was also named as the 2007 C-USA Player of the Year.

In addition, she has been listed as one of the 52 finalists forthe Kodak/WBCA All-America team, which will beannounced on March 31 in Cleveland, Ohio at the Women’sFinal Four.

Guzman’s other honors this season include preseason all-conference first-team, C-USA Player of the Week on twooccasions, C-USA All-Tournament Team and AlabamaAthlete of the Month.

AAmmoonngg tthhee NNaattiioonn’’ss BBeessttSenior guard Carmen Guzman has had a well-known repu-tation as a prolific shooter throughout her career. Her per-formance during the 2006-07 season has only added to thatbilling. She leads UAB and is second in Conference USA inscoring with 21.5 ppg.

She is also listed as 10th in the nation this week in points pergame (through games of March 11), with Carrie Moore ofWestern Michigan currently leading in Division I with 25.4ppg.

Guzman has connected on 227-of-506 for a .449 percent-age overall. She has also sunk 65-of-181 from behind thearc, a .359 percentage.

CCaarreeeerr SSccoorriinngg WWaattcchhEntering her senior season, Carmen Guzman had scored1,035 career points. Through 31 games thus far this sea-son, Guzman has added 666 points to her total. Her 1,701points rank her fifth in UAB history in career points. Sheneeds 12 points to surpass Natasha Thomas and move intofourth on the all-time scoring list. Wanda Hightower is theall-time leading scorer with 2,854 career points.

3311 aanndd CCoouunnttiinnggCarmen Guzman, who is putting up 21.5 ppg during hersenior campaign, has scored in double figures in everygame this season. She has also surpassed the 20-pointmark in 22 of 31 contests as well.

On November 14, Guzman set a new career-high with 33points against Ole Miss on 10-of-20 from the field, includingfive from three-point range. Her lowest point total of the yearwas 11 on two occasions, both losses at Virginia andSouthern Miss.

BBeeyyoonndd tthhee AArrccThe Blazers have been hot from three-point range this sea-son, hitting 218-of-640 for a .341 shooting percentage. TheBlazers are connecting on a league-high 7.1 three-point fieldgoals per game as well.

UAB’s 7.1 threes per game are also one of the best marksin the nation, ranking 13th out of 324 teams in three-pointfield goals per game (through games of March 11). TheBlazers are also listed as 56th in the country in three-pointfield goal percentage, hitting 34.1 percent of their attempts.

DDiiaammoonndd SShhiinniinngg TThhrroouugghhJunior Diamond Rogers has been stellar this season, puttingup some of the best numbers on the squad and inConference USA, currently averaging 15.4 ppg, which rankssecond on the team behind Guzman.

Rogers has connected on 174-of-394 (.442) from the fieldthis season, and has also hit 60-of-126 from behind the arcfor a .476 shooting percentage.

Rogers is also doing her part on the defensive side as well,grabbing a team-high 8.0 rpg. She is also continuing to leadthe Blazers in blocked shots with 37, including a career-high



four blocks on three occasions this year.

OOnn TThhee WWiinnnniinngg TTrraacckkWith UAB’s win over UCF on February 15, the Blazers sur-passed their win total from last season (14-14) with 15 victo-ries this season. The Blazers, who now boast 19 victoriesthis season, have the highest win total since the 2000-01season when UAB reached the WNIT Elite Eight and finishedwith an overall record of 20-11.

TToopp SSeeeeddeeddAt the conclusion of the regular season, the Blazers held aleague record of 12-4, just one game behind first-placeTulane (13-3) for the regular season title and the top seed inthe conference tournament.

UAB’s record was good enough for the No. 2 seed in theleague’s postseason tourney, marking the highest seedearned in the C-USA tournament in school history. The pre-vious highest seed earned by a UAB squad was the No. 4spot, earned on multiple occasions.

On February 24, the Blazers also set a new arena record forthree-pointers in a game at the Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston,Texas when UAB dropped 12 three’s against Houston. Theprevious record was 11, set in 1999 by DePaul.

UAB,which is playing its 18th season in Bartow Arena, has arecord of 167-91 (.647) since its opening on December 3,1988. UAB has an 10-6 home record this season.

The Blazers’ first victory in Bartow Arena came on December6, 1988 when UAB topped Southern University, 66-64.UAB’s most recent win at home was on March 15, 2007 asthe Blazers earned an 81-77 win over Davidson.

UAB’s previous triumph over an ACC foe was on November24, 2001 when the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest fell tothe Blazers, 80-61, in Bartow Arena.

RRooggeerrss && GGuuzzmmaann EEaarrnn PPllaayyeerr ooff tthhee WWeeeekk HHoonnoorrssJunior Diamond Rogers and senior Carmen Guzman haveboth garnered Conference USA Women’s Basketball Playerof the Week honors this season, as Rogers earned it on Feb.5 and Guzman was named on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26.

Rogers was named the C-USA Player of the Week afterrecording a pair of double-doubles in UAB's two road wins onFebruary 1 and 3. In UAB's 73-69 overtime win at EastCarolina on February 1, Rogers put up a game-high 20points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while flirting with a triple-double with a career-best seven steals.

On February 3, Rogers gained another double-double, hersecond in three days and third in a week, with 16 points anda game-high 13 rebounds in UAB's 62-55 win over Marshall.Rogers sank four from beyond the arc on her way to her 17thdouble-figure scoring game of the season, and her sixth in arow.

Guzman averaged 22.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while shooting aflawless 100 percent from the free throw line (12-of-12) and.366 (15-of-41) from the field as UAB went 1-1 on the weekduring her first weekly honor of the season.

Most recently, Guzman averaged 19 points, 8.5 reboundsand 2.5 steals as UAB closed out its regular season with apair of wins at Rice and at Houston. The Blazers won theirfinal two conference games by an average of 18 points.

Audra Smith is in her third season at the helm of the UABwomen’s basketball program. Smith and her staff continue to buildon the solid foundation they have laid during the past two seasons.

The 2005-06 season saw the Blazers make a remarkable turn-around, as UAB doubled it’s win total during the 2004-05 season.UAB’s 14 wins were the most since the 2000-01 campaign. Alsothe Blazers have tallied 10 home victories this season, the most bya UAB squad since the 2000-01 campaign.

UAB recorded a 7-21 overall mark in Smith’s first season, as noBlazer player started every game and only three played in all 28contests. Seven Blazers missed a total of 106 games for variousreasons, with three different players missing at least 20 games ofthe season. UAB did participate in its second-consecutiveConference USA Tournament and won the Blazer Invitational dur-ing the season. Additionally, the Blazers took second at the CoorsRocky Mountain Invitational hosted by Colorado State University.

Smith was named the fifth head women’s basketball coach forUAB on April 7, 2004. The job is Smith’s first collegiate headcoaching position after she spent 14 years under Debbie Ryan atVirginia as a player and assistant coach. Smith was associatedwith the UVa women's basketball program for 10 years as a coachand four as a player.

"I am so excited," Smith said. "I could tell when I came here thatthe administration is very serious about the success of thewomen's basketball program. That was apparent. The program atUAB has experienced success in the past and my goal is to getback to that level and beyond."In coming to UAB, Smith returned to a region familiar to her. Smithgrew up in Milledgeville, Ga., and went on to become an outstand-ing prep basketball player at Baldwin High School from 1986-88.

After finishing her playing career at Virginia in 1992, Smithjoined the Cavaliers’ coaching staff in 1994 as the restricted earn-ings coach. After two years, she was elevated to a full-time positionwhere she assisted with player development of the guards andworked extensively in recruiting and scouting. In May of 2000, shewas promoted to recruiting coordinator and helped Virginia attractfour recruiting classes rated among the nation’s top 20.

Virginia won six straight Atlantic Coast Conference champi-onships from 1991-96, as well as three ACC tournament campi-onships (‘90, 92, ‘93). As a coach with the Cavaliers, Smith helpedVirginia to nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances

(1995-2003), four NCAA Sweet 16 appearances (1995-97, 2000);two NCAA Elite Eight appearances (1995-96); and three ACC regu-lar season titles (1995-96, 2000). Seventeen Cavalier players werenamed to the ACC Academic Honor Roll a total of 28 times.

After graduating from Virginia in 1992 with a degree in sociology,she worked as a child and adolescent counselor and as a socialworker with the Department of Family and Children Services inMilledgeville. From there she returned to begin her coaching careerin Charlottesville.

As a player at Virginia, Smith was a member of the Cavaliersteam that competed in three consecutive Final Fours (1990, 1991and 1992). Virginia reached the championship game in 1991, falling70-67 in overtime to Tennessee. She was a four-year letterwinner.

At Baldwin, she was named honorable mention All-America byStreet and Smith's and was named Miss Georgia Basketball in 1988.She led Baldwin High in Milledgeville, Ga., to three consecutiveGeorgia AAAA state championships (1986, 1987 and 1988) and wasnamed the MVP of the state tournament as a junior in 1987.

Smith, 36, is married to former University of Virginia basketballplayer Anthony Oliver and has a son, A.J., and a daughter, Adria.She has been a member of the Women’s Basketball CoachesAssociation since 1994 and the Black Coaches Association since2002.

November 12, 2006 - Tallahassee, Fla.The UAB women's basketball team saw its hopes of upsetting

the ACC's Florida State Seminoles slip away in the second half as theBlazers eventually fell to FSU, 93-77, in the season opener for bothsquads. The Blazers were up by as much as seven during the first halfand held a one-point lead at halftime, but the Seminoles shot 62.9 percentin the second half to overtake UAB.

Senior Carmen Guzman led all Blazers in scoring with 22 pointson 8-of-19 shooting and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Jones hit five shotsand a pair of free throws to put herself into double figures with 14 points,while Salaam was 4-of-8, including three from behind the arc to tally 14points in her first collegiate basketball game.

Salaam and junior Diamond Rogers led UAB on the boards withfive rebounds each, while Guzman added three rebounds. Rogers also tal-lied six points and a team-high five assists for the Green & Gold.

Britany Miller went 12-of-19 for 28 points to lead the Seminoles.Jacinta Monroe tallied a double-double with 23 points and 21 reboundsagainst the Blazers. Shante Williams was the other Seminole in double-digits with 15 points on 7-of-19 from the floor.

The Blazers shot a total 43.1 percent for the game, including47.4 percent from three-point land and 57.1 percent from the free throwline. Florida State shot a combined 50.6 percent for the game, including22.2 percent in three-point field goals and 52 percent from the charitystripe.

Florida State's ultimate advantage over the Blazers was on theboards, out-rebounding UAB 62-21, including 29 offensive boards. TheSeminoles racked up 35 second-chance points off of their 29 offensiverebounds.

Ole Miss 99, UAB 85November 14, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.

Despite getting a whopping 33 points out of senior guardCarmen Guzman, the UAB women's basketball teams dropped its firsthome game of the season to SEC foe Ole Miss, 99-85. The Blazers wereright there with the Lady Rebels the entire game, including four leadchanges and six tied scores, but eventually fell as Ole Miss began to pullaway in the final minutes of the contest.

Guzman scored a new career-high against the Lady Rebels, hit-ting 10-of-20 from the floor, including five from behind the arc, to rack up33 points. The senior from New York, N.Y. also grabbed six rebounds, sixassists and a pair of steals on the night.

Junior forward Diamond Rogers also had a career-high game,setting new personal bests with 18 points and seven assists. Freshmanguard Fatiha Salaam nabbed double-figures in the points department forthe second consecutive game with 11. Freshman forward Erica Simpsonrounded out the Blazers in double-digits with 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4shooting.

Armintie Price led the way for Ole Miss with 34 points, 16 ofwhich came from the free throw line. Ashley Awkward tallied 23 points andDanetra Forrest hit 5-of-7 for 15 points. Forrest earned herself a double-double by also leading the squad in rebounds with 13.

Overall, UAB shot 42.3 percent compared to the Lady Rebels'50.8 percent. Ole Miss was on fire during the second half, hitting 18-of-31shots for 58.1 percent. The Blazers did out-rebound the Lady Rebels, 45-40, including 20 offensive boards.

November 17, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.The UAB women's basketball team fell to the Warhawks of

Louisiana-Monroe, 80-73, within the confines of Bartow Arena. TheBlazers shot 42.9 percent from the field and were led in scoring by seniorCarmen Guzman with 21 points. Guzman also added a pair of reboundsand a team-best six assists during her 39 minutes on the floor.

The two squads swapped leads throughout the first half, withLouisiana-Monroe holding its largest lead of six, 28-22, with 6:12 on theclock. Offensive production from Guzman and junior Diamond Rogers putthe Blazers back in the lead, going up by as much a five. UAB held ontothe lead and went into halftime with a three-point advantage over theWarhawks, 34-31.

The Blazers continued to maintain the lead during much of thesecond half of play. ULM scraped back and took its first lead of the secondperiod at the 12:19 marker when a jumper by Courtney Carter put theWarhawks on top of UAB by one, 44-43. As time was winding down, theWarhawks hit some critical shots and the Blazers were forced to foul. Apair of free throws with one second left in the game put the final score at80-73 in favor of ULM.

Along with Guzman, there were two additional Blazers in doublefigures, including Rogers, who flirted with a double-double with 16 pointsand a team-high nine rebounds. Ingram went 5-of-6 from the field for 14points in 19 minutes before fouling out of the game. Berry added fivepoints and seven rebounds on the night, including a team-high three offen-sive boards.

LaJeanna Howard was the scoring leader for the Warhawks with21 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.O'Neal had 16 points, aided by a trio of three pointers, and Nedra Winstontallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

UT-Chattanooga 70, UAB 63November 20, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.

The UAB women's basketball team attempted to make a come-back in the second half, but fell short as it lost the non-conferencematchup with Chattanooga, 70-63.

Junior Diamond Rogers led UAB in scoring and set a newcareer-high with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including a trio of basketsfrom three-point range. Rogers also chipped in a pair of assists andrebounds, as well as matching her career-high in the steals category withthree.

After being down by 11 at the break, 43-32, UAB came out in thesecond half and trimmed Chattanooga's lead to two points, led by Rogerswith back-to-back three's, with 16:53 remaining in the game.

The two teams battled back-and-forth as the Lady Mocs kepttrying to pull away from the Blazers, but UAB kept cutting intoChattanooga's lead. Eventually, time just ran out for UAB as they droppedthe contest, 70-63.

Along with Rogers' 23 points, two other Blazers reached dou-ble-digit scoring against the Lady Mocs. Senior Carmen Guzman tallied 10points, six rebounds and three assists, while junior Christon Ingram hit 5-of-8 for 10 points and also grabbed a team-high seven boards. Ingramalso set a new career-high by dishing out four assists on the night.

Brooke Hand had the hot-hand for Chattanooga, hitting 7-of-12,including knocking down four three's, for a total of 18 points. AlexAnderson earned herself a double-double with 18 points and 13 reboundsagainst UAB.

Chattanooga barely edged out UAB in the shooting category,hitting 40.7 percent of its shots compared to 39.4 percent for the Blazers.The Lady Mocs also held the advantage on the boards, out-reboundingUAB, 47-35.

November 27, 2006 - Jackson, Miss.The UAB women's basketball team could not hold onto its half-

time lead and fell to the Lady Tigers of Jackson State, 78-67. SeniorCarmen Guzman led the Blazers with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting,which marked her fifth consecutive double-digit game of the season.

The Blazers jumped out to an early lead, topping the LadyTigers by as much as 10 at the 12:47 mark on a jumper by junior DiamondRogers. Jackson State, slowly but surely, chipped away at UAB's lead andclimbed to within two at halftime, 30-28.

Jackson State wasted no time evening the playing field whenShelita Burns hit a jumper less than 30 seconds into the second half to tiethe score at 30-all. The Lady Tigers took their first lead of the game ontheir next possession when Krystal Fontenot hit a shot to put JSU up, 32-30. After gaining their first lead of the game, the Lady Tigers carried all ofthe momentum throughout the rest of the game, going up by as much as20 points at the 5:53 mark. Jackson State went on to win the contest by11, 78-67.

Along with Guzman's 27 points, junior Diamond Rogers was theonly other Blazer in double figures with 17 points. Rogers also had ateam-high five rebounds, four assists and two blocks to go along with her17 points.

Despite the loss, the Blazers held the shooting advantage, hit-ting 26-of-51 shots (51.0%), including 6-of-14 from three-point range.Jackson State hit 50.0 percent of its shot, connecting on 26-of-52 on thenight.

The Lady Tigers also earned 25 points at the free throw line, hit-ting 25-of-33 from the charity stripe. UAB made just 12 free throwattempts, sinking nine of them for the game.

Vanderbilt 85, UAB 63November 30, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.

The UAB women's basketball team fell to No. 14 Vanderbilt, 85-63, despite a valiant effort by the Blazers, who held a one-point lead atthe half, 35-34.

The Blazers bench played a major role in giving UAB its halftimeedge, as they added 17 points to the Blazer effort. Jones hit 4-of-8 in thefirst 20 minutes of play for a team-best 11 points. Junior Diamond Rogersneared double-digits in the first half, tallying nine points on a trio of bas-kets and a pair of free throws.

UAB opened the second period with a layup by senior CarmenGuzman to give UAB a three-point lead. The two squads continued to goshot-for-shot, with the score deadlocked at 42-all with 15:35 remaining.

That is when the Commodores began to break loose and even-tually take their first double-digit lead of the night on a three-pointer byChristina Wirth that put Vanderbilt up by 11. The Blazers eventually fell bya count of 22, 85-63.

Sophomore Britney Jones led the way for the Blazers, findingthe hot hand and sinking a personal season-high 19 points. Jones alsoadded a pair of assists and three steals. Rogers continued her consistentplay by tallying 16 points and nabbing a team-high seven rebounds.Guzman also reached double figures by hitting a half dozen shots and atrio of free throws for 15 points.

Vanderbilt's center Carla Thomas put 14-of-19 shots throughthe net for team-high 32 points. Thomas earned herself a double-doubleas well, pulling down 11 boards to go along with her 32 points.

The Commodores shot an impressive 56.4 percent on thenight, while the Blazers hit 36.1 percent of their shots. Vanderbilt wasalso on target from behind the arc, netting seven treys compared to fivefor UAB.

Starkville, Miss. with a win over SEC foe Mississippi State, 76-70. TheBlazers had four players score in double figures to secure their first victo-ry of the season.

The Blazers put together 37 points on 41.4 percent shooting inthe first half to go into the locker room with a one-point lead at the break,37-36. Senior Carmen Guzman sank six buckets, including a pair of treys,to tally 16 points in the first 20 minutes of play.

For the game, Guzman led the Blazers with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Guzman also added fourrebounds, three assists and one steal to her resume against the LadyBulldogs.

Junior Diamond Rogers snatched the first double-double of hercareer with 18 points and a career-high 12 boards. Rogers also matchedher career-high in steals with three. Other personal-best numbers wereset in Starkville, including a career-high 10 points for sophomore BriannaBerry, while also grabbing four rebounds and three steals.

Junior Christon Ingram hit 4-of-5 from the field and a pair of freethrows for a total of 10 points to complete the quartet of Blazers in doublefigures.

Robin Porter led the Lady Bulldogs with 23 points and alsoadded eight rebounds and three blocks. Bethany Washington ledMississippi State on the boards with nine rebounds, including five offen-sive boards.

UAB 67, Florida Atlantic 52December 18, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.

After getting off to a slow start, the UAB women's basketballteam kicked things up a notch and finished round one of the BlazerInvitational with a 67-52 win over Florida Atlantic.

The Blazers jumped out to an early 12-8 lead over FloridaAtlantic with 13:02 remaining in the first half. The Owls went on a 13-0 runthat spanned 9:29 to take a 21-12 lead over the Blazers. UAB retaliated,courtesy of a trio of treys from sophomore Britney Jones, to make it a one-possession game at the half, 28-26, in favor of FAU.

The second half was the complete opposite of the first 20 min-utes, as Florida Atlantic went without a field goal until 6:35 left in the game.The Blazers took full advantage of the Owls' scoring drought and pulledahead for a comfortable lead. UAB held as much as a 16-point lead overFlorida Atlantic and ended the game with a 15-point win, 67-52.

Senior guard Carmen Guzman recorded the 71st double-figurescoring game of her career, and the eighth of the season, with 23 pointson 8-of-12 shooting and a handful of free throws.

Sophomore Britney Jones provided some much-needed energyoff the bench, scoring 15 points during her 30 minutes on the floor. Joneshit 5-of-9 on the night, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

FAU's leading scorer was Brittney Crenshaw with 14 points,while Brittany Bowe had 13 points and Mistoria Brown contributed 11points and a team-high nine boards.

For the game, UAB shot 43.6 percent from the field, including53.8 percent in the second half of play. The Blazers also hit 33.3 percentfrom three-point range and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Florida Atlantic shot 27.9 percent overall, including 20.0 percentfrom three-point land and 68.2 percent from the free throw line.

December 19, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.The UAB women's basketball team hit a three-game winning

streak after claiming a 19-point win over Hampton, 66-47, in the champi-onship game of the 2006 Blazer Invitational. The victory also markedUAB's fourth consecutive Blazer Invitational title.

After jumping out to as much as a seven point lead during thefirst half, the Blazers entered halftime with a 33-28 edge over the Pirates.UAB shot 55.0 percent during the first 20 minutes compared to Hampton's23.5 percent, but the Blazers countered their shooting with 16 first-halfturnovers.

With 12:50 left in the game, the Pirates started a 9-0 run thatwould give them a one-point lead over UAB, 39-38, with 10:04 on theclock. That is when the Blazers began to take charge of the game, takingtheir first double-digit lead of the night at the 5:13 mark when a layup bysenior Carmen Guzman put UAB up by 10, 53-43. The Blazers hung on totheir lead and left Bartow Arena with its third consecutive victory and thetournament title.

Guzman paced UAB with 19 points, while also adding sixrebounds, five assists and a trio of steals. Diamond Rogers hit 6-of-7 fromthe floor, including one from three-point range, to tally 13 points on thenight. Rogers also had six rebounds and a pair of assists against thePirates.

Guzman was honored as the tournament MVP after racking up42 points over two games, along with 11 assists, 10 rebounds and eightsteals. Rogers and sophomore Britney Jones were also selected to theall-tournament team for UAB.

UAB 70, Virginia Tech 59December 21, 2006 - Birmingham, Ala.

The UAB women's basketball team moved its winning streak tofour by topping ACC foe Virginia Tech, 70-59, in Bartow Arena.

UAB fell behind early, but kept the Hokies within single digitsand went into halftime down by five, 34-28. The Blazers first-half strugglescould be attributed to just 27.6 percent shooting, compared to 40.5 per-cent from Tech.

UAB took its first lead of the game with 17:49 left in the secondperiod on a layup by junior Diamond Rogers to put the Blazers up by one,37-36. Virginia Tech regained the lead and went up by as much as sixpoints at the 14:33 mark before UAB came clawing back to take the leadagain, 49-48, with 11:16 left in the contest.

The lead changed hands one more time before UAB took con-trol of the game and went on a 9-0 run that left the Hokies down by eight,58-50, with 8:25 left on the clock. The Blazers held their largest lead of thecontest at the 2:43 mark when a layup by sophomore Britney Jones putthem up by 14, 68-54. At the final buzzer, the Blazers left with an 11-pointvictory over Virginia Tech, 70-59.

The Blazers shot a stellar 53.3 percent in the second half to fin-ish the game with 40.7 percent from the floor. UAB also hit 47.1 percentfrom three-point range and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.

Senior Carmen Guzman continued her nationally-ranked pointproduction by putting up 23 against the Hokies. Jones ended the nightwith 14 points, three steals and a pair of assists.

Overall, Virginia Tech shot 40.0 percent on the night, including23.1 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free throwline. Senior Kirby Copeland paced the Hokies with 16 points, while fresh-man Amber Hall knocked down 15. Senior Nare Diawara was the leadingrebounder for Tech with 12 and also contributing nine points.

December 28, 2006 - Charlottesville, Va.The UAB women's basketball team continued its winning streak

and picked up its fifth consecutive victory, 84-77, over the Lady Demons ofNorthwestern State in the first round of the University of Virginia's MarriottCavalier Classic.

Sophomore guard Britney Jones set a new career high and fin-ished second on the squad in scoring against the Lady Demons with 27points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Jonesalso added five steals, four rebounds and four assists in UAB's openinground victory.

Northwestern State had the hot hand during the first 20 minutesof action, sinking 65.5 percent of its shots to take a 45-38 lead into half-time. Jones hit 8-of-10 in the first half of play, accounting for 22 of UAB's38 points.

The Blazers came out in the second half and tied the game upat 50-all within the first five minutes. UAB continued its dominance of thesecond period, going up by as much as 11 points multiple times late in thegame. Free throws down the stretch secured the Blazers' win overNorthwestern State, 84-77.

Along with Jones, there were three other Blazers in double fig-ures. Senior Carmen Guzman had a team-high 29 points, including 22second-half points to lead the Blazers' comeback. Junior Christon Ingramhad 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while junior DiamondRogers tallied 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Chassidy Jones led Northwestern State with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while also grabbing a team-high eight boards. Tena Matthewshad 15 points and Akilah Givens chipped in 13 towards the Lady Demons'effort.

Virginia 81, UAB 63December 29, 2006 - Charlottesville, Va.

The UAB women's basketball team saw its winning streak cometo an end as the Blazers were defeated, 81-63, by Virginia in the champi-onship game of the Cavalier Classic. UAB had won five consecutivegames before falling to the Cavaliers.

Virginia jumped out to a quick six-point lead, 8-2, over theBlazers at the 16:22 mark. A layup by junior Diamond Rogers put UABback within one, 11-10, with 12:29 left in the first half.

The Cavaliers continued to try to build their lead, going up by asmuch as seven with 10:16 left, but the Blazers fought back and pulledwithin one point once again, 23-22, with 6:30 remaining before halftime. A13-5 run by Virginia late in the first half helped the Cavaliers maintain aseven-point lead at the break.

Virginia continued to lengthen its lead during the opening min-utes of the second half, going up by 20, 58-38, with 11:57 left in the game.UAB attempted to chip away at the Cavaliers' lead, but UVa proved toomuch for the Blazers as the Cavaliers ended the game with an 81-63 winover UAB to claim the tournament title.

Rogers led the Blazers with 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting,while also grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Britney Joneshit three treys on her way to 17 points against the Cavaliers.

Junior Christon Ingram finished the night with 12 points andsenior Carmen Guzman contributed 11 points to the Blazer effort.

Jones earned a spot on the Cavalier Classic all-tournamentteam after knocking down 27 points in UAB's opening round win overNorthwestern State and tallying 17 against Virginia.

started on the right foot by winning its Conference USA opening game overthe Memphis Lady Tigers, 75-59, at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on thecampus of the University of Memphis.

UAB was led by senior Carmen Guzman with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Guzman tallied 16 of her 23points during the first half on her way to her 13th consecutive game in dou-ble figures.

Freshman Amanda Scott tied her career-high with nine pointson 4-of-6 from the field, including one from behind the arc. Junior DiamondRogers added eight points and Shimena Moore, LaKitha Murray andChriston Ingram tallied six points each towards the Blazer victory.

Murray also had a big night on the boards for UAB, grabbing ateam-best seven rebounds. Sophomore Britney Jones led the Blazers inassists with six and Rogers had a team-high three steals.

Memphis had a trio of players in double figures, including AshleyThornton and Devin Necaise with 13 points each. Se'erra Fantroy added11 points for the Lady Tigers.

The UAB women's basketball team used 47 second-half pointsto gain a 16-point victory over defending Conference USA championTulsa, 76-60.

The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a quick eight point leadover UAB, but the Blazers slowly made their way back into the ballgame,taking their first lead of the game, 17-16, with 6:51 remaining in the firsthalf on a three-pointer by senior Carmen Guzman. A pair of free throwsby Guzman with two seconds left before the half gave UAB a two-pointadvantage at the break, 29-27.

The second half belonged to UAB as the Blazers came out fir-ing 64.0 percent for the half, including a 22-5 run that spanned over sixminutes to begin the second period. UAB continued its sharp shooting andfound itself ahead by as much as 22 points at the 9:54 mark. Tulsa wasnot able to overcome that large of a deficit and fell at the hands of theBlazers, 76-60.

While Guzman scored a team-high 25 points for UAB, juniorDiamond Rogers contributed a double-double, the second of the year forher, with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Although Jillian Robbins' 27 points and 11 boards overshad-owed the rest of Tulsa's team, Valerie Siemens finished the night with 14points and a handful of boards. Jamie Dreiling also added nine points andfive rebounds towards the Golden Hurricane effort.

Overall, UAB held the shooting advantage with 46.9 percentfrom the field compared to Tulsa's 32.4 percent. The Golden Hurricane hitjust 26.3 percent of their three-point shots, while the Blazers connected on7-of-17 (.412) from downtown.

The UAB women's basketball team kept its Conference USArecord unblemished as it defeated the Mustangs of SMU, 71-68, to moveto 3-0 in league play. The Blazers were led by senior Carmen Guzman andjunior Diamond Rogers who combined for 40 points against the Mustangs,scoring 21 and 19 respectively.

UAB and SMU were all tied up at 34-all with one minute left inthe first half. Alice Severin hit a layup with six seconds remaining in the halfto give the Mustangs a two-point lead at the break, 36-34.

UAB began to build its lead during the opening minutes of thesecond half, going up by as much as 11 with 11:20 remaining in the con-test on a trey by Rogers. SMU scraped back and came within two at the2:51 mark on a pair of free throws by Severin, but freshman Erica Simpsonand junior Christon Ingram hit key free throws down the stretch to ensurethe Blazer victory, 71-68.

In addition to Guzman's team-high 21 points, she also con-tributed four rebounds and a pair of assists in 40 minutes on the court.Rogers added five rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal to her19 points against the Mustangs.

Severin led the Mustangs in scoring with 18 points on 8-of-13shooting, while also nabbing 11 boards to earn herself a double-double.Janielle Dodds scored 15 points and Shepherd rounded out SMU's dou-ble-digit scoring with 12 points.

Overall, UAB shot 44.0 percent, including 46.7 percent fromthree-point range. SMU hit 42.6 percent of its shots, including just 3-of-12(.294) from behind the arc. The Mustangs did hold a slight advantage onthe boards, out-rebounding UAB 35-33.

The UAB women's basketball team moved to 4-0 in ConferenceUSA play, and 9-7 overall, with an 11-point victory over the Golden Knightsof UCF, 66-55. Senior guard Carmen Guzman tallied a game-high 29points on 10-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc.

The Blazers started the game with a 10-2 run, led by a pair ofthree's by Guzman for UAB's first buckets of the contest. UAB controlledthe first 20 minutes of the game, jumping out to as much as a 20-point leadand going into halftime with a 17-point advantage, 41-24.

In the first minutes of the second half, the Golden Knights puttogether a 12-6 run against the Blazers to cut the lead to 11, 47-36, with16:20 left in the game. UAB refused to give up double-digit lead and main-tained it throughout the remainder of the game, eventually winning by ascore of 66-55.

Guzman, in addition to her 29 points, had five rebounds andteam-high numbers in both assists and steals with three and four respec-tively. Senior forward Shimena Moore contributed nine points and juniorDiamond Rogers added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds to theBlazers' effort.

Miles led UCF in scoring with 18 points on the night, followed byFrancine Houston with 13. Miles and Kristin Thomas both grabbed a team-high seven boards and Amber Long led the Golden Knights in assists withsix.

The UAB women's basketball team suffered its first loss of theyear in Conference USA play, falling to the Golden Eagles of SouthernMiss, 72-54. Down by seven at the half, 39-32, Southern Miss outscoredUAB by a 40-15 count in the second half to earn the 18-point win over theBlazers.

UAB had two players earn double-doubles against SouthernMiss, led by junior Diamond Rogers with a team-high 16 points and 12rebounds. She was closely followed by senior Carmen Guzman with 11points and a team-best 13 boards. Sophomore Britney Jones also scoredin double digits with 15 points, while also adding three rebounds, twoassists and one steal.

Southern Miss was led by Kendra Reed and Amber Eugene with23 points each towards the Golden Eagle effort. Lauren Pittman added 14while Liz Biland scored nine points and grabbed a team-high ninerebounds.

Overall, Southern Miss shot 43.6 percent from the field com-pared to 35.9 percent for the Blazers. The Golden Eagles also hit 31.3 per-cent from behind the arc, while UAB was just 4-of-21 from three-pointrange. USM was also 19-of-23 from the charity stripe. UAB made just 10free throw attempts on the night, sinking four of them.

Senior Carmen Guzman scored a game-high 24 points to leadthe UAB women's basketball team to its fifth Conference USA win of theseason as it downed the Pirates of East Carolina, 59-52.

Guzman extended her streak of consecutive double-figure scor-ing games to 18 with her 24-point performance against East Carolina.Guzman also contributed six rebounds, one assist, one steal and oneblock in UAB's win over the Pirates.

Junior Diamond Rogers tallied her second consecutive double-double with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Rogers added twoassists, three blocks and a trio of steals to her resume as well.

LaCoya Terry paced East Carolina with 13 points, whileJasmine Young added 10 points to the Pirates' total. Nicole Days led ECUon the boards with 11 rebounds, while also scoring six points.

UAB shot 44.0 percent in the second half to finish the game witha 34.0 shooting percentage. East Carolina sank 26.3 percent of its shots,including 22.2 percent from three-point range. The Pirates grabbed 22offensive boards on the night on their way to a total of 56 rebounds againstUAB. The Blazers nabbed 40 defensive boards and finished the gamewith a total of 49 rebounds.

The UAB women's basketball team dropped an overtime con-test against the Marshall Thundering Herd, 75-69, last Saturday eveningat Bartow Arena. With a 65-all tie at the end of regulation, Marshalloutscored the Blazers 10-4 in overtime to get the six-point win over UAB.

After trailing by two at the half, 35-33, UAB held the lead mostof the second period. The Blazers' largest lead came at the 14:31 markwhen a three-point shot by senior Carmen Guzman put UAB up by eight,48-40.

The Thundering Herd inched closer to the Blazers' lead, tyingthe game on multiple occasions late in the second half. After being dead-locked at 61-all with 2:36 remaining in regulation, sophomore BritneyJones hit her first trey of the night to put UAB on top, 64-61, with 50 sec-onds left on the clock.

Modupe Ishola came down the floor and hit a layup with 37 sec-onds remaining to cut UAB's lead to one, 64-63. Jones made one of twoattempted free throws at the 20 second mark to put the Blazers up by two,65-63. Following a foul by UAB junior Christon Ingram, Ishola sank a pairof free throws with eight seconds left to tie things up at 65-all. A missedshot by UAB in the last seconds of regulation forced overtime.

The Blazers were outscored 10-4 in the overtime period andpicked up the loss at the hands of the Thundering Herd, 75-69.

Guzman tallied her second double-double of the year by scoringa game-high 29 points and grabbing a team-best 12 rebounds. JuniorDiamond Rogers also put forth a 20-point effort with 20 points on 7-of-14shooting. Jones contributed eight points, eight boards, five assists andfour steals against Marshall.

Junior Diamond Rogers knocked down six buckets from beyondthe arc on her way to a career-high 28 points to lead the UAB women'sbasketball team over the Memphis Lady Tigers, 84-77, in Bartow Arena.Rogers tallied her fifth double-double of the year by grabbing 11 reboundsin addition to her 28 points.

In addition to Rogers' 28 points and 11 boards, she also con-tributed six assists, two steals and one block versus the Lady Tigers.Senior Carmen Guzman continued her streak of double figure scoringgames, which is now at 20, with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists andone steal. Guzman helped UAB make its comeback from a three-pointhalftime deficit by scoring 18 of her 22 points in the second half.

Freshman Fatiha Salaam also recorded a new career highagainst Memphis, going 3-of-3 from three-point range on her way to 15points. Sophomore Britney Jones tallied nine points and junior ChristonIngram scored seven points and tallied seven boards.

Necaise led Memphis with 24 points on 8-of-18 shooting, includ-ing 6-of-13 from behind the arc. Aroha Jennings put up 21 points, whilegrabbing eight boards for the Lady Tigers.

The two teams combined for 27 three-point baskets on thenight, with UAB going 13-of-29 from three-point range and Memphis hit-ting 14-of-28. Overall, UAB hit 46.0 percent of its shots, while the LadyTigers made 42.2 percent of their attempts.

points each in overtime to give the UAB women's basketball team the winover East Carolina, 73-69, Thursday night in Greenville, N.C. The Blazersbounced back from a 14-point, second-half deficit to earn the win andmaintain a share of the Conference USA lead at 7-2 in league play.

Rogers garnered her second consecutive double-double, andher sixth of the season, with a game-high 20 points and 10 boards againstthe Pirates. Rogers also flirted with a triple-double by nabbing sevensteals as well.

Senior Carmen Guzman extended her streak of consecutivedouble figure scoring games to 21 with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting,including a quartet of treys. Freshman Fatiha Salaam sank a trio of shotsfrom beyond the arc to lead her to 14 points. Jones also scored in doublefigures for the Blazers with 12 points, while also contributing six steals andfive assists.

Cherie Mills led East Carolina with 19 points, while Terry tallied17 and Young sank 16 points for the Pirates. Nicole Days was ECU'sleader on the boards with 10 rebounds against the Blazers.

For the game, UAB had the edge in shooting, hitting 39.3 per-cent of its shots, while East Carolina put 38.1 percent of its shots throughthe net. The Pirates held the advantage on the boards, 46-36, but UABhad better numbers in steals and blocks, with 15 and six respectively.

In a battle of two first-place teams in Conference USA, the UABwomen's basketball team outdid the Thundering Herd of Marshall, 62-55,to remain atop the conference standings.

Junior Diamond Rogers tallied 11 points and nine rebounds inthe first half to give UAB the 27-24 edge at halftime. Senior Modupe Isholahit 3-of-4 from the floor to lead the Thundering Herd at the half with ninepoints.

UAB extended its lead to as much as 12 points, 46-34, with12:59 remaining in the game courtesy of a three-pointer by sophomoreBritney Jones. Marshall slowly chipped away at the Blazers' lead, narrow-ing the difference to three points, 59-55, in favor of UAB with 25 secondsleft in the game. A pair of free throws by Jones at the 22 second mark, fol-lowed by two free throws by freshman Fatiha Salaam with six seconds lefton the clock, secured the Blazers' victory, 62-55.

Senior Carmen Guzman led UAB with 17 points on 6-of-11shooting, while also adding five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.Rogers nabbed her third consecutive double-double with 16 points and 13rebounds against the Thundering Herd. Jones was the third Blazer to hitdouble figures, scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds on the day.

Meg Withrow led Marshall in scoring with 15 points on 6-of-13shooting, while Ishola finished just shy of a double-double with nine pointsand nine boards.

UAB held the slight advantage in shooting, hitting 36.2 percentof its shots, compared to 35.5 percent for Marshall. The Blazers alsonailed 40 percent of their three-point attempts (10-of-25) and 83.3 percentof their free throws.

A three-pointer by Guzman put UAB up by six, but IzabelaPiekarska tallied two consecutive buckets, followed by a layup by AnaValtierra, to cut UAB's lead to one, 41-40, at the 9:42 mark.

The Blazers kicked it into high gear and outscored the Miners13-3 the rest of the game to gain the home victory, 54-43, and keep ashare of first place in the conference.

Along with Guzman's 24 points, she also tallied four rebounds,a team-best four assists and a game-high five steals. Jones also finishedthe night in double figures with 12 points.

Ingram led the Blazers on the boards with nine rebounds, whilealso adding five points. Rogers contributed seven points and sevenrebounds in the UAB win.

The UAB women's basketball team fell to the Tulane GreenWave in Fogelman Arena, snapping the Blazers' four-game winning streakand breaking the two-way tie for first place in Conference USA.

UAB trailed by just three points at the half, 29-26, with 14 of theBlazers' first-half points courtesy of senior Carmen Guzman. JuniorDiamond Rogers also added nine points in the first half, while freshmanFatiha Salaam had three.

The Green Wave used a 17-3 run to open the second half toextend their lead over UAB, 46-29 with 11:36 remaining in the game. TheBlazers attempted a comeback, going on a 14-4 run of their own to movewithin seven points of Tulane, 50-43, with 6:38 on the clock. Tulane wenton yet another run to move ahead by as much as 18 and gain the victoryover UAB, 66-48.

The Blazers were led by Guzman with 21 points and 11rebounds, her third double-double and 24th consecutive double figurescoring game of the season.

Junior Christon Ingram also nabbed a double-double, her first ofthe year, with 11 points and 13 boards. Rogers scored nine points andsnatched 11 rebounds against the Green Wave.

Tulane was led by Jami Montagnino and D'Aundra Henry with15 points each, while Dominique Philpots contributed 13 points. AshleyLangford scored seven points and added 11 assists during the day.

For the game, Tulane shot 42.6 percent from the field and 54.5percent from the charity stripe. UAB shot 26.2 percent overall, including22.2 percent from three-point range, and hit 80.0 percent of its free throws.

The UAB women's basketball team fought off a feisty UCFGolden Knights squad, 58-44, in Bartow Arena. Senior Carmen Guzmancontinued her sharp-shooting with 20 points, accompanied by 10rebounds, for her second consecutive double-double and her fourth of theseason. Guzman extended her streak of double figure scoring games to25 and has surpassed the 20-point mark 18 times during her senior year.

The first half was a one-sided story, with UAB out-scoring theGolden Knights 34-15. The Blazers were up by as much as 22 points, 30-8, with 2:46 left in the half. UCF did not reach double figures until the 2:33mark when a layup by Shante Cummings gave the Golden Knights 10points.

UCF came out in the second half and made the game interest-ing, going on a 19-8 run to cut the Blazers' lead to eight, 42-34, with 13:01left in the contest. The Golden Knights inched even closer, coming withinfour points on a layup by Houston at the 11:27 mark, 44-40. Solid defenseand key shots by UAB preserved the win for the Blazers, 58-44.

In addition to 20 points and 10 rebounds, Guzman also added agame-high five assists and four steals. Rogers finished with 15 points, nineboards, two assists and one steals, while tying her career-high with fourblocks against UCF.

Junior Christon Ingram tallied her second consecutive gamewith double-digit rebounds, grabbing 10 boards versus the GoldenKnights. Murray finished the night with seven points and freshman EricaSimpson chipped in five points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Francine Houston led the Golden Knights with 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting, including a pair of treys. Amber Long ended with a double-double, scoring 10 points and snatching 10 boards against the Blazers.

The UAB women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker toSouthern Miss, 60-55, in Bartow Arena during its last home game of the2006-07 season.

UAB jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on a three-pointer by sen-ior Candace White and a pair of free throws by junior Diamond Rogers.The Golden Eagles came back and took their first lead of the game, 8-6,at the 15:42 mark on a three-point shot by Kendra Reed.

Southern Miss extended its first-half lead to as much as eightpoints, 24-16, at the 8:02 mark on a three-point bucket from Liz Biland.The Blazers came back to cut the Golden Eagles' lead to five at the half,31-26.

UAB fought back to within one point of the Golden Eagles, 54-53, with 1:43 remaining on the clock, but Southern Miss went 6-6 from thecharity stripe down the stretch to hold on for the five-point win, 60-55.

Rogers led all Blazers with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, whilealso adding six rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals. SeniorCarmen Guzman tallied 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds on thenight.

Jones was the third Blazer in double figures with 10 points, tworebounds and three steals. Junior Christon Ingram added four points toUAB's total, but contributed 10 rebounds against the Golden Eagles.

Amber Eugene sunk 8-of-8 from the free throw line to lead herto a team-high 18 points for Southern Miss, followed closely by Reed with17 points, including five buckets from three-point range.

Overall, UAB held the shooting advantage, hitting 37.9 percentof its shots compared to 33.3 percent for Southern Miss. The Blazers putsix three-pointers through the net, but the Golden Eagles hit eight fromlong range for a 40.0 percentage on the night.

season with 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the UAB women's basket-ball team over the Rice Owls, 79-66, at Autry Court.

Guzman's 26 points extends her streak of double-figure scoringgames to 27, including 19 games with 20-plus points. Guzman also con-tributed three assists and five steals against the Owls.

Junior Diamond Rogers also tallied a double-double with 17points and 10 boards. Rogers went 7-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-3from three-point range to get to 17 points.

Sophomore Britney Jones was the third Blazer in double figureswith 14 points, while also adding four assists, three rebounds and onesteal to UAB's effort.

Valeriy Berezhynska scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, andalso grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Rice. Kadie Riverin also scored in dou-ble figures with 12 points and a team-high six assists.

The UAB women's basketball team closed out its 2006-07 reg-ular season schedule in fashion with a 21-point win over the HoustonCougars, 84-63, in Hofheinz Pavilion.

UAB had the hot-hand in the first half, sinking 16-of-25 from thefield (64.0 percent), including 10-of-13 from beyond the arc (.769), to givethe Blazers the 19-point advantage at the half, 47-28.

The second half played out much like the first half, as UABnever relinquished its double-digit lead over the Cougars and went on totake the 21-point victory, 84-63.

In the win, the Blazers set a new Hofheinz Pavilion record,knocking down 12 three-pointers during the game. The previous record of11 was set by DePaul on January 23, 1999.

Junior Diamond Rogers finished as the Blazers' leading scorerwith 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Jones tallied 16 points for UAB, whilealso adding four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Guzman continued her streak of double figure scoring games,which now stands at 28, with 12 points on 3-of-9 shooting. Guzman alsocontributed seven rebounds and five assists.

Junior Christon Ingram put back a missed shot with four sec-onds left in the game to lift UAB to a 67-65 victory over Tulsa in the quar-terfinal round of the Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Blazers went on to take a game-high nine-point lead twotimes during the final minutes of the game, but a three-point bucket byTulsa's Valerie Siemens tied the game at 65-all with 31 seconds on theclock.

Senior Carmen Guzman put up a shot with six seconds left thatrimmed out. Ingram grabbed the offensive board and got the put-back withfour seconds remaining in the game to give UAB the 67-65 win and pre-vent overtime.

Guzman finished with a game-high 28 points, which extends herstreak of double-digit scoring games to 29 and gives her 20 20-pointefforts this season. Guzman also contributed four rebounds, three assistsand one steal against the Golden Hurricane.

Rogers tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 16points and 13 rebounds on the night. Ingram ended with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while also adding seven rebounds to UAB's effort.

Robbins led Tulsa with 20 points and nine boards, while addingfour blocks, two steals and one assist. Siemens tallied 12 points on thenight and Jamie Dreiling scored 10.

Overall, UAB hit 38.8 percent of its shots compared to 41.7 per-cent for Tulsa. The Blazers held a slight edge on the boards, out-rebound-ing the Golden Hurricane 41-39.

Guzman finished the night with her second consecutive gamewith 20-plus points, hitting 11-of-20 from the field, including four frombeyond the arc. Guzman also added four rebounds, five assists and onesteal against East Carolina.

Rogers tallied her second straight double-double, scoring 20points and grabbing 10 boards, while also adding four assists, three stealsand two blocks. Rogers was 7-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-8 from three-point range versus the Pirates.

Junior Christon Ingram was the third Blazer to reach double fig-ures with 14 points on the night, including 4-of-4 from the floor. Jones hit5-of-6 from the charity stripe to lead her to 12 points and Salaam finishedwith nine points, including a trio of three-point buckets.

All five starters scored in double figures for East Carolina, led byLaCoya Terry with a game-high 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Cherie Mills added 17 points, while JasmineYoung and Nicole Days scored 11 each and Impris Manning chipped in 10.Mills recorded a double-double by adding a game-high 12 rebounds to her17 points before fouling out.

For the game, UAB hit 45.2 percent of its shots compared toEast Carolina's 47.7 percent. The Blazers sank 14-of-29 (.483) frombeyond the arc, while the Pirates made 33.3 percent (3-of-9) of their three-point attempts. The biggest difference was at the free throw line, whereEast Carolina sank 20-of-26 and UAB hit 11-of-23.

Wildcats, 81-77, at Bartow Arena in a WNIT first round game. The Blazersmove on to the second round of the WNIT to take on in-state foe, Auburn.

Guzman tallied her 30th consecutive double-digit scoring gamewith 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting and 5-of-9 from the free throw line. Thisalso marks Guzman's third consecutive 20-point effort, and her 22nd of theseason. In addition, Guzman recorded her sixth double-double of the sea-son by adding 10 rebounds to her 20 points.

Jones sank eight buckets, including two from three-point range,for a total of 20 points against the Wildcats. Rogers was the third Blazer indouble figures with 18 points, eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Davidson was led by Mitchell with 24 points on 9-of-15 from thefloor, including four treys. Mitchell also led the team in assists with seven.Brynn Kelly was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures, adding12 points and a team-high 11 boards to Davidson's total.

Overall, both squads shot over 40 percent for the game, withDavidson holding the slight edge at 44.9 percent, while UAB put 44.1 per-cent of its shots through the net. The Wildcats were hot from three-pointrange, going 10-of-24 (.417) from beyond the arc, compared to UAB's 5-of-16 (.313).
