1. Pakistani paves the way in Police Force <Extract from SCMP 06 Feb 2012>

Hong Kong Unison says Heina Rizwan Mohammad is the first South Asian woman recruited for training as a constable since the handover. The Hong Kong force has recruited the first South Asian woman to be a police offi-cer since the handover in 1997. This comes after the force started to give extra points to applicants who know foreign languages other than Chinese and English. The inability to read or write Chinese well has long been a barrier to hiring minorities in the disciplined services. While police did not reveal her identity, Hong Kong Unison, which campaigns for the rights of minorities, confirmed that it was

-week training course this month. Unison Di-

rector Fermi Wong Wai-fun said: “I am very

happy that the police have hired her. I hope

there will be more ethnic minorities joining the

force in the future.” Mohammad, 21, had previ-

ously worked for the force as a community

liaison officer, organizing activities and reach-

~ 2. Some Overviews ~ 2.1 Meeting CE candidate, Mr. Leung Chun-ying

Chinese language education, equal job opportunities and nationality awareness

were polished out by EM friends at Mr. Leung’s campaign office during the meeting

with him on 11th Jan, 2012. He has later included our suggestions and other sup-

portive measures in his election platform.

2.3 Imitated Society Activity for S. 3 Students of Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College

On 1st Feb, an imitated experiential activity was conducted for students in explor-

ing their future career paths in the working society. We have set up different

counters in imitating different field such as bank, restaurant, disciplined services,

accounting firms, hospital and others. Students had the chance to experience the

requirements and attitude needed in a real society which that they would face in

their near future. ^^

2.4 Most important celebration in South Asian Culture

India Diwali— known as the festival of lights, is cele-

brated between mid Oct to Dec. It is to cele-

brate the bright has defeated over the evil

darkness. The festival is celebrated by decorat-

ing homes with lights, fireworks and distribut-

ing sweets and gifts.

Pakistan Eid al-Fitr is a festival that marks the end of

Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The purpose of celebrating is to conclude the

fasting of 29 or 30 days from dawn-to– sunset

during the month of Ramadan. They celebrate

by eating family meals together, wear new

clothes, eat sweet foods, and give gifts to chil-

dren.

Nepal Dashain is the longest festival in Nepal. It is

held around Sept to Oct , starting from the

bright lunar fortnight and ends on the day of

full moon. This festival is also known for its em-

phasis on the family gatherings. Celebrations

are done by prayers, religious rituals, and ani-

mal sacrifices.

Philippines Christmas – is the longest holiday in the Philip-

pines. It officially starts on the 16th of Dec. and

ends on Three Kings Day (a Sunday that falls

between Jan 2 to 8). Filipinos attend dawn

masses for Misa de Gallo starting 9 days before

Christmas and put Lanterns (Parol), the colorful

star-shaped lantern everywhere to serve as a
