The Parish of Saint Bartholomew, is pleased to invite

everyone over 18 years of age,

to participate in the formation classes to obtain their three

sacraments of Christian initiation, Baptism,

First Communion, Confirmation.

Registrations will be on August 4 and 11 after the 10 am Mass

and 11:30 am in the convent (Corner of Whitney Ave & Judge St)

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Attend and be registered using Sunday envelopes in San Bartolome.

2. Submit birth certificate and baptismal certificate if applicable.

3. Classes in English will participate in the 10 am Mass

Classes in Spanish will participate in the 11:30 am Mass

4. Bring a signed bulletin (by priest) as proof that you attended Mass

5. Be single and not living with a partner.

6. Classes are every Sunday. Punctuality is required, Absences are not

tolerated, please be courteous with your peers and instructors at all times.

7. The use of cell phones in class is prohibited.

This year the feast of St Bartholomew is on a Saturday! The 5 pm (English) and 7:30 pm (Spanish) will be cancelled.

Instead we will offer ONE bilingual mass at 6 pm. Following the mass we will have delicious foods, cold drinks, music and lots

of games for the children in the parking lot and the school gym. Save the date August 24, 2019!! The second collection on that weekend of August 24/25 is your special gift to the parish. As always we ask your generosity.

Two Redemptorist missionary priests will be

speaking to us about the vital work being done by

Redemptorists serving in Brazil and Nigeria

during the weekend of August 17-18.

Rev. Peter Schavitz, C.Ss.R., was ordained in

1976 and has wide and varied apostolic

experiences: youth, adult, couple, divorced, and

nuns’ retreats; seminary professor; vocation

ministry; parish ministry; provincial administra-

tion; and involvement in several radio and video

projects. Father Pete is a seasoned parish mission

preacher whose faith, stories, humor, and words

continue to spiritually impact thousands.

Rev. Ted Dorcey, C.Ss.R., a native of Sioux City,

IA, was ordained in 2012. He is currently

involved in Hispanic ministry in the Mississippi

Delta, one of the poorest areas in the United States.

Kindly welcome Father Pete and Father Ted, and

please give your attention to this important appeal.

VISITING THE SICK The priests of the parish will visit the

sick in their homes on Tuesdays and

Wednesdays beginning this month. Just

call the office to make an appointment

for an English or Spanish or Bengali

speaking priest. The priest will offer the

anointing of the sick, opportunity for

confession and holy communion. Of

course in emergencies the priests are

available at any time.

TAGALOG MASS

On the 3rd Sunday of every month mass

Is celebrated in Tagalong for the Filipino

community at 5 p.m. In the chapel

(Ithaca Street). The next mass

will be celebrated August 17.

BENGALI/BURMESE MASS These two communities gather on the first Sunday of the month for a bilingual mass at

5 pm in the chapel. Following the mass there is a gathering with light refreshments in

Heafey Hall. The next mass will be celebrated on Sunday, September 1.

NEED A LETTER FROM

YOUR CHURCH?

In order to give letters of recommendation,

letters attesting to character, sponsor

certificates, and other documents that may

have legal or religious purposes, it is

required that persons requesting those

documents be registered and be active

members of Saint Bartholomew Parish

at least three months prior to your

request. We can not provide any

of these documents to people not

registered in the parish.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

There are two times every Saturday for

confessions in the main church: 4 pm and

6:30 pm. Also Thursday at 6:30pm in the

Chapel. We now have two priests assigned

during these times to make it convenient

and less time to wait. Please do your

part…. come as close as possible to these

confession times. Take advantage of this

wonderful opportunity of God’s

mercy and love.

parish. You will also have the opportunity to sign up and participate in our parish life by

joining some of these groups and ministries. There will be lively music and plenty of

refreshments. Please save the date and plan on joining us after mass.

ASSUMPTION OF MARY Thursday, August 15 is the feast of the

Assumption of Mary into heaven – and a holy day in which Catholics are obligated to attend mass. The masses will take place in the main
