Celeb delights,regrets in 2010

But before moving for-ward, we must look backat the year that was. So Iasked celebs what theylove and regret the mostabout 2010.

As for me, the best partof 2010 was my living lavida viajera. I alwayscome home as a happierperson after each trip.

What I wish I didn’t dolast year was give my fullemotional investment topeople who didn’t value itenough. But no regrets.

If there’s one thing Ilearned from my momand my idol MJ, it’s togive, give, give and for-give, forgive, forgive. Here’s to a better andbrighter 2011 for all of us.May love and joy hopalong with you this Yearof the Rabbit.

Korina Sanchez:“What I love most about2010 are the new hori-zons that opened and thechanges and the chal-lenges that came withnew territory. I got mar-ried to Mar, campaignedfor an election, traveled, started yoga and Pilates, nurtured my cherished re-lationships, left and gotback to mainstream jour-nalism. It was an awe-some ride! I hardly regretanything in 2010 ex-cept for a few trustand betrayal is-sues that other-wise made mewiser. I believe Ilived 2010 toits

maximum potential!”Gloria Diaz: “My work

on TV and in the moviesare what I loved aboutlast year. I regret I didn’tdo more.”

Ogie Alcasid: “Ofcourse, my wedding wasthe best part of 2010. Itwas the answer to all myprayers. Regrets have nev-er been in my vocabularyyear after year.”

Jolina Magdangal:

“Celebrating my 20 yearsin show biz. I don’t regretanything.”

Juris: “No regrets in2010. The highlight of mylife last year was going so-lo. It was unplanned onmy end but clearly it wasGod’s plan. Maybe that’swhy circumstances fell in-to place not just for mebut also for people closeto me.”

Rachel Alejandro:“The thing I loved themost about the past yearwas that I finally foundthe man I’m going to mar-ry. Soon after we met, Iknew in my heart I wouldalways be his. What I re-gret is that I had to saygoodbye to someone I alsoloved. It was very painfuland I still cry about itsometimes. But that’s justthe way life is. Sometimeswe have to give somethingup to gain somethingelse.”

Medwin Marfil (TrueFaith vocalist): “What Iloved most about 2010 isthat we released our bestalbum yet, ‘Love Parade,’which I believe is ourmost cohesive work ever. What I regret most is thatI missed watching Tearsfor Fears, ‘Cats’ andDionne Warwick.”

Bo Cerrudo: “Theunwavering support ofmy family through allmy ups and downs in2010 is what I lovemost. It was mymost challengingyear yet and I’mglad it’s over, though I don’tregret anythingat this point. Isimply consid-er it as a gen-uine learningexperience. Ican onlymove for-ward.”

GB Sampedro: “the new opportunitchallenges which caway in 2010. I enjoworking with a newand meeting new frI have no regrets atcause I believe everhappens for a reasotake each downfalllearning experienceworst things can turthe best things in thrun because it madestronger and wiserson.”

Shalala:“2010 anpinakaswerte kongbecause of all the gbreaks TV5 gave meNakaahon na kamirap. Meeting the kinhearted Alice Eduarher sis Small Laudesuch a blessing becathey offered to shouthe medical expensemy sick pamangkinlan. I don’t regret bmakes me sad thatto leave GMA 7. I’mer grateful to themcially Kuya Germs dsila ang unang nagtsa akin. I regret somthe blind items I saiJuicy lalo na the onabout Carmina andkasi nasaktan ko silfor that, sobrang sosa kanila.”

I TOOK a much-neededbreak in Boracay lastweek, so this is officially

my first column for 2011. I leftall my excess emotional bag-gage in “Boradise” because I

intend to travel with a light heart this year.

Gulliver's TravelsDirected by Rob Letterman

T HIS idea went alittle too far. Maylightning strike

those who propose a se-quel.

I don’t have anything againstmodernized adaptations (or ‘in-terpretations’) per se, except thereally nasty ones like this. Hon-estly I’d be more lenient if thetitle didn't bear resemblance tothe main character of the origi-nal — something like She’s AMan instead of Shakespeare’sTwelfth Night which is what itwas based from, or 10 Things IHate About You which was actu-ally The Taming of the Shrew, but told in 1999. And that WestSide Story is Romeo and Juliet.

In contrast, Jack Black’s pro-duction (he is executive produc-er) is simply idiotic, the sameidiotic idea as that proposal tomake a comedic Green Lanternstarring Jack Black, long before

written in 1726 was Swift’s re-buttal to the optimistic view ofhuman nature in Robinson’sCrusoe written by Daniel Defoein 1719. The original Gulliver'sTravels was a parody to the(then) emerging literary formatof travelogue and the granddad-dy of novels.

At this point, the film tech-niques in Holly-wood are almostbeyond reproach,so to that I cansay that the ef-fects in Gulliver'sTravels The Movieare pretty good, considering. Onething the moviegot correctly thatis similar to thebooks: his fate isreversed when hebecomes theLiliputian in theland of giants(Brobdingnag).Toilet humour, green jokes, andendless referrals

to Fox franchises Star Wars, X-Men and Avatar will remindpeople that this movie is aboutselling toys to kids who are 30years old who talk with the vo-cabulary of a college fratman.

Parents, send your kids tothe library and get them to readbooks and not download theminto the Kindle.

Ryan Reynolds came into thepicture.

Jack Black plays Lemuel Gul-liver (same name as the maincharacter in the classic literarypiece), a lowly mailman for apublishing house who gets as-signed to write a travel pieceabout the mysterious BermudaTriangle so he can make a goodimpression on the travel editorhe has a crush on.

He goes, gets swept away bya storm into the teeny tiny is-land kingdom that is Liliput (orLiliputia, it’s inconsistent!) Hepretends to be someone he isn’t,blah blah and in the end, themoral of the story is, to get thegirl you want, be honest. Totallynot what Jonathan Swift’s satireis about, but should be okayhad the film been REALLY FUN-NY but is NOT.

Supposedly, Travels to SeveralRemote Nations of the WorldJACK Black as Gulliverejandro
