What is Muay Thai? 泰拳是什么 ?

• Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is a martial art that is about 2,000 years old. It is the national sport of Thailand and the toughest fighting sport in existence today. Muay Thai is a fighting self-defense system that uses the body's eight natural weapons: fists, elbows, knees, and legs. It is the preferred striking system of full-contact fighters around the world.

Its origin is said to trace back to the Khmer empire of Angkor,

where the bas-reliefs of temples testify of the old practice of a

martial art: the "Kbach KunBoran Khmer". Their empty-handed fighting system was variously

referred to as unarmed combat, dhoi muay (a cognate of the Malay

word tomoi), or simply muay, a generic term for boxing or

pugilism. The teaching of muay was kept up largely by Buddhist monks who in former times also

served as the community's educators.

Classification 分类

• 泰拳分为古泰拳，擂台泰拳，表演泰拳，健身泰拳，平民泰拳，街头泰拳和传统泰拳

Muay Thai is divided into Muay Boran, Muay Thai for areana, Muay Thai for performance, Muay Thai for fitness, Muay Thai for the common people, Muay Thai on the street and Muaythai Monkun .

Formal Muay Thai techniques are divided into two groups: mae mai or major techniques and luk mai or minor techniques. Muay Thai is often a fighting art of attrition, where opponents exchange blows with one another. This is certainly the case with traditional stylists in Thailand, but is a less popular form of fighting in the contemporary world fighting circuit where the Thai style of exchanging blow for blow is no longer favorable. Almost all techniques in muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch, elbow and block.

Grade and level 等级段位• 泰拳是靠臂箍和头箍分段位，臂箍泰语叫八戒。

八戒的颜色分布是这样： 白 黄 黄白 绿 绿白 蓝 蓝白 棕 棕白 红。段位分布则是这样：基础泰拳一级，泰拳 2 级，泰拳 3 级，以此类推。

Muay Thai is divided into grade by the arm hoop and head hoop. Arm hoop called eight quit in Thai. The distribution of eight quit color is this: white,yellow,yellow and white,green,green and white,blue,blue and white,brown,brown and white,red. The grade is divided like this:Muay Thai 1, Muay Thai 2, Muay Thai 3, and so on.
