Ulla Reimer, in the primal sense - with light.

A singular light: its variations construct, deconstruct, reconstruct, and purify the vista that unfolds from black to white through all ranges of grey. More than just a stable centre casting over all the captured shapes in their entirety (being then too quickly read, recognized, classi�ed and forgotten), this light unhinges our landmarks in time and space with its dislocated transformations. These contrasts order the images with a surprising equilibrium. An unexpected opening carves urban elements with celestial apertures; these unique framings destabilize our �rst impression. Multiple interpretations that are in�nitely enriched by a �ow of perceptions – clouds or nuances – reveal new meanings to our sensibility. This work is the foundation for the book Photographie. The fact that the title is in the singular tense underlines the coherence of this study through a series of shots in which the woman begins to resonate with architecture and nature. But the human presence diminishes thereafter. The artist is not conveying anecdotes of her life on other continents, rather she is discovering a pathway where the re�ections of reality are freed from their overly anecdotal dimension. The strength of the compositions renders the intensity of mystery without ever pulling back. An overcrowded world empties and unwinds itself in order to be better �lled with the tension between durable forms and the evanescence of the ephemeral. This demandingly modern paradigm directs and ampli�es these works of art, which, in their static and dynamic nature, constantly reveal a strangeness that is open to interpretation. Renewable, the light exposes this distinctive vision – from one image to the other – and then explodes in bursts that fragment, di�ract, and refract. Framing and printing e�ects multiply these glimpses of an elsewhere that is still present and a present that is still elsewhere. Alternative perspectives of curves, angles and lines are thus developed, transcending the contradiction between the visual universe and magical visions of the sky. These striking compositions guide the corporeal senses to other, more secretive dimensions by way of intimate contemplation: from traditional to digital photography, our imagination rises on the wings of vision. 유일한 빛: 빛의 변화는 우리의 시각을 구성하고, 해체하고, 재구성하여 정화한다. 유일한 빛은 검은색에서 회색의 모든 색상 범위를 거쳐 흰색을 향한다. 유일한 빛은 모든 형태로 전파되는 안정된(너무 빨리 읽고, 알아보고, 분류하여 결국 잊혀지는) 중앙보다는 시간과 공간에서 우리의 기준을 해체하고 변화시켜 혼합한다. 이러한 대조는 이미지에 질서를 부여하여 놀라운 조화를 낳는다. 느닷없이 하늘을 향한 눈길이 도시의 윤곽을 드러낸다. 이렇게 특이한 방식으로 피사체를 맞추다 보면 처음에 가졌던 시선이 불안정해진다. 넘치는 인식에 뉘아쥬(구름)인가 뉘앙스인가 하는 수많은 해석이 이어지며 우리의 감성을 일깨우는 의미가 풍성해진다. 이 작업은 포토그라피라는 책과 함께 시작되었다. 책의 제목을 단수로 한 것은 자연과 건축이 여성에게 반향을 불러일으키는 일련의 촬영을 통해 연구의 일관성을 강조하기 위함이다. 하지만 인간의 존재는 그 후 약화된다. 예술가는 다른 대륙에서 겪은 자신의 일화를 말하지 않는다. 예술가는 현실의 반영이 지나치게 지엽적인 차원을 벗어나는 시기를 경험하게 된다. 예술가의 작품이 가진 힘은 신비의 강렬함을 전혀 축소하지 않은 채 재현하는 것이다. 가득 차 넘치는 세계는 비워지고 감겨서 지속 가능한 형태와 차츰 소멸될 일시적 현상들 사이의 긴장으로 다시 채워진다. 현대의 요구에 따라 정형화된 틀과 유려함을 지향하며 쏟아져 나온 작품들에는 무궁무진한 해석이 가능하다는 기묘함이 있다. 재생 가능... 빛은 한 이미지에서 다른 이미지로 라는 독특한 비전을 제시하고는 산산히 부서져 조각나고 회절되어 굴절된다. 영상 배치와 인쇄는 지금 여기에 있는 거기와 거기에 있는 지금에 이러한 간극을 끊임없이 생산한다. 따라서 하늘의 시각적 매력과 현실 세계 사이의 대립을 초월하는 곡선, 각도, 선으로 된 또 다른 관점이 등장하게 된다. 작품이 주는 충격은 이제 내밀한 묵상의 더 비밀스러운 차원으로 육체의 의미를 향하게 한다. 필름에서 디지털까지, 우리의 상상은 비전의 날개를 펴고 높이 난다.
