Joseph was the first lad of Chinese decent from Windsor to graduate as an air force flight officer navigator. While training, Joseph was killed on his first flight. He was shot down along with the rest of his flight crew over Alencon, France on 23 May 1944 while dropping propaganda leaflets (know as a nickel raid). The leaflet flights were often carried out by training pupil crews; they were dispatched on a short sortie to a target in northern France before completing the training course. Joseph was 23 years old when he died and was buried at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, in France. George Hong enlisted as a private in Windsor, Ontario and served with The West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was killed in Italy on the 8th of September 1944, and was buried at the Ancona War Cemetery, on the Adriatic Coast. George was 18 years old when he died.

Private Benny Lee, younger brother of Edward and Peter, enlisted directly out of high school, and received 30 days of basic training in northern Ontario before being sent directly to The Perth Regiment. The Perths’ formed part of the 11th Infantry Brigade in the 5th Armoured Division. Benny Lee was on active service with the 5th Armoured for four years and was demobilized on his return to Canada in the summer of 1945.

李禮培 Peter Lee李禮培是李能相的第三子,在二次世界期間服役於防空隊,曾在英國參戰抗禦德軍空襲,被提升到中士軍階。其後他成為化學戰術教官。一九四五返回溫莎。

Peter Lee, third child of King and Lily Lee, served in the 24th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery out of Londonderry, England, defending against German air attacks. He eventually earned the rank of Sergeant and became a chemical warfare instructor for the remainder of the war. He returned to Windsor in 1945.

Edward Lee, fourth son of King and Lily served in the RCAF as an aero engine fitter mechanic and served in No. 404 Coastal Command (Buffalo) Squadron, covering the area from the Shetlands to Land’s End in Scotland. Edward was initially rejected as an aircraft mechanic by the RCAF based on his race. Edward’s wife Jean, angry at the government’s policy, convinced the local recruitment officer to allow Ed to enlist. Ed served with the 404 squadron until it was disbanded at Banff in Scotland on 25 May 1945; Edward Lee was then repatriated to Canada and released.
