    DEGREE PREPARATIONUniversity Bridging Program

    DEGREE PREPARATIONPre-Masters Program

The University Bridging Program (UBP) is designedfor students who require only a single semester of

study to reach the language levels for entry to the

undergraduate degree or the Pre-Masters Program.

It enables students to deal with complex academic

texts and to produce academic writing, fullyreferenced and in line with established conventions.

A study skills course provides opportunities toresearch and deliver a formal presentation on an

academic topic. Overall, the students progress is

given tangible expression through the production

of a portfolio of work drawn from all the UBP

courses. This, along with nal assessments ofthe students English level, provides evidence

of the students readiness to move on to their

    bachelors degree or Pre-Masters Program.

For the undergraduate program, students need

to have achieved 5.5 IELTS or equivalent to join

the rst year of the degree. When they havecompleted this rst degree year successfully,

they need to have reached the equivalent of

an IELTS level of 6.5 to move into the secondyear of an undergraduate program.

Pre-Masters Program (PMP) students study for one-

semester, and will take courses designed to prime

them for the rigor of graduate level coursework.

English prociency language skills are taught tomeet the universitys admissions requirements.

In addition to the language and skills training and

acclimating to a different system of learning andteaching, the program includes academic courses.

The PMP delivers curriculum within a

    framework that resembles typical graduate

level study in Canada. Instruction during

the program and measurable student work

outcomes include, but are not limited to:

Peer-reviewed content and readingsand subsequent class discussions

    Formal individual and group presentations

    Collaborative and team projects

Use of technology in program delivery

and in the production of assignments
