Driven by power and the desire to loot and plunder, as well as the ambitions to expand their holdings and influence, Amyntas’ main rivals were the Illyrians and the Olynthians, and in part the Macedonian pretender to the throne Argaeus and the Thessalians led by Jason of Pherae. The chronology of the events has been considerably disputed, the available sources are scarce, scanty and contradictory in places, so any further research raises new possible debatable questions and assumptions. But regardless of these difficult obstacles, with a critical analysis of the available sources, it is possible to reconstruct the events of this important period of Macedonian history, which is in fact the main goal of this text. Периодот на владеењето на македонскиот крал Аминта III, таткото на великиот Филип II, веќе подолго време го привлекува вниманието на истражувачите на античка Македонија. Прилично е спорна хронологијата на настаните, изворите со кои располагаме, пак, се малубројни, скудни и на места сe контрадикторни, па секое понатамошно истражување отвора нови можни дискутабилни прашања и претпоставки. Познатиот истражувач на Македонското Кралство Ј. Н. Борза не случајно забележал дека настаните од првата половина на IV век пр. н.е. се „вистински историографски кошмар за историчарот на Македонија“. Но без оглед на овие тешко премостливи пречки, кои не е исклучено полека да се надминуваат со нови археолошки истражувања, во основа, со критичка анализа на постојните извори, сепак можеме да направиме една можна реконструкција на настаните од овој значаен период од македонската историја.Аминта III владеел низ бурни непогоди во минатото на јужниот дел на Балканот и со сесрдни напори, со својата државничка мудрост и со политички прагматизам успеал да ја сочува и повремено да ја етаблира својата држава во стабилна и моќна монархија. Во сите тие премрежиња покажал исклучителна храброст, жилавост и подвижност. Водени од моќта и од желбата за воен грабеж и плен или од амбициите за проширување на своите поседи и влијание, негови главни соперници биле Илирите и Олинтјаните, а само делумно и непознатиот домашен претендент Аргај и Тесалците на чело со Јасон од Фери. Неговото владеење се карактеризира со постојана борба за опстанок, па Хамонд со право заклучува дека „навистина било речиси чудо што тој и неговото кралство воопшто преживеале“.

Abstract

Driven by power and the desire to loot and plunder, as well as the ambitions to expand their holdings and influence, Amyntas main rivals were the Illyrians and the Olynthians, and in part the Macedonian pretender to the throne Argaeus and the Thessalians led by Jason of Pherae.
