I.C.E. COMMENT

NEWS AND NOTICESYMS STEM DAY

PRESENTERS NEEDEDPresenters are needed for Yokosuka Middle School’s STEM Day on Thursday, April 27. Please call 243-5165 if you would like to volunteer.

COMMENT: Attended our rst Smart Start basketball practice and was sorely disappointed. I love that little kids are allowed and encouraged to participate in sports, and I understand that there is a high demand of space. But the 3-4 year olds had about a 10x10 sq. ft. section to work with, o in the corner, with benches cutting into their already abysmal space allotted to them. While I understand older

kids can scrimmage and use the full court, I still feel the younger ones should get a little larger space so they aren’t running into the walls/benches/peoples clothing that didn’t make it on the benches. Last year, the little kids got at least half the court which I feel is appropriate for the number of kids and for the sport in general. Thanks for your time. RESPONSE: Thank you for contacting us, your

input is very important about our Start Smart basketball program. We apologize for our services not meeting your needs at the moment but we try our best to ensure you are satis ed with your overall experience with our program. In regards to the facilities and spaces in Ikego, we are looking for other spaces that will t our program needs. Unfortunately, there is only one gym and due

to the amount of teams this year, we planned our practice schedules with the available times for each team. We are reaching out to the elementary school to nd out their reservation policies and how we can use their space for our large program. We are actively looking for other resources around Ikego to ensure all children are safe and have a chance to enjoy the sport in an atmosphere that is hazard free.
