Digital & Open
Being Digital is a non-fiction book about digitaltechnologies and their possible future by technologyauthor Nicholas Negroponte.
Negroponte discusses the differences between bitsand atoms. Atoms make up physical tangible objectssuch as CDs, books and letters. Digital information,on the other hand, is made up of bits, the smallestunit of information on a computer. He believes that allforms of information that are now made of atoms(books, CDs, etc.) will eventually be made into bits.
Negroponte presents a strong belief that humanity isinevitably headed towards a future where everythingthat can will be digitalized (be it newspapers, entertainment, or sex). This leads Negroponte to aquote repeated often in promoting and explaining thebook's material, that the book is made of "unwieldyatoms" that will probably be replaced by a digitalcopy by the time anyone reads it.
Atom to Bit
Nicholas NegroponteHe is the founder and Chairman Emeritus of Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology's Media Lab.
Negroponte became involved in the creation of Wired Magazine as the firstinvestor. From 1993 to 1998, he contributed a monthly column to the magazinein which he reiterated a basic theme: "Move bits, not atoms.“
When Frank Moss was appointed director of the lab in 2006, Negropontestepped down as lab chairman to focus more fully on his work with One LaptopPer Child.

Linked Data

Data & Creative: friends or foes?
Creativity is that which separates human beingsfrom beasts. It is more than just building a tool orexpressing one’s “self” or drawing a picture. The abilityto be creative involves an understanding of nature thatwe then change and adapt based on our needs or tosolve a problem.
An educational process should involve encouragingthe human mind to conceptualize ideas, and then useour minds, our tools, and our free will to actuallytransform the physical characteristics of ourenvironment to adapt to our ideas. Animals adapt tonature. Human beings change it. Human beings arethe creative force of nature.
An effective educational system is one whichencourages the students to be able to use existingknowledge in order to make new challenges. It istempting for a teacher to dictate to a student what isalready acknowledged to be true. But if this is theaccepted norm of education, then innovation isprecluded. Instead, the wise teacher will encouragethe student, preferably a group of students, todiscover among themselves what can beindependently shown to be true, so that they “own” thetruth in the same way that the acknowledgeddiscoverer knows it.

Data Visualization
The key goal of data visualization:
#2 Customer Experience Design
Customer Experience (or customer experience design):
<source=http://infocus.emc.com/william_schmarzo/data-visualization-customer-experience/>
Data visualization and customer experience design
are two very different
but very criticalbig data capabilities.
Data Visualization seeks to use data visualization techniques
to help data practitioners to tease patterns, trends
and relationshipsburied in the data.
Customer Experience Design uses analytic insights
to create a more targeted and compelling customer engagement.
