VFW POST 2593 ARNOLD, MO
GREETING FROM THE ACTING COMMANDER
OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2015 2301 CHURCH ROAD, ARNOLD, MO 63010
VFW NATIONAL NEWS RELEASE
LADIES AUXILIARY VFW WELCOMES MEN, BECOMES VFW AUXILIARY
At its 116th annual National Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa., convention delegates of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) passed a resolution to amend their National Bylaws,
allowing male family members to join the Ladies Auxiliary VFW effective August 21, 2015. As a
result, the organization’s name changed to VFW Auxiliary.
“It’s an exciting time to be a member of the Auxiliary,” said VFW Auxiliary National President
Francisca Guilford. “Women comprise nearly twenty percent of our nation’s military, and this
change allows all spouses, fathers, grandfathers, sons, grandsons and brothers to serve others in
honor of their veteran.”
“It not only expands the eligibility of the organization’s members, it provides us a wonderful
opportunity to serve more veterans and promote patriotism in communities across our great
nation.”
If you are a male or female relative of someone who served in overseas combat, you may be
eligible to join the VFW Auxiliary. If you are interested in serving veterans, active-duty military,
their families, and your community in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and
woman who has served in uniform, we invite you to visit www.vfwauxiliary.org to learn more.
The turmoil that has been around our post of late is finally over. It is time to
move on. We have a good post filled with great members. We need to make
our good post as great as it's, members.
To make this happen we need cooperation and help from everyone. Get in-
volved with post activities. Give suggestions. There are plenty of opportunities
to get involved right now:
 Recruit new members
Sign up to distribute buddy poppies
 Volunteer for “Black Light Bash”
Volunteer and/or attend Post activities and events
Volunteer to judge Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen entries
Attend the JB Bingo & Pizza Party
Together we can make our post one of the best in the country.
A special election will be held at our next general meeting on October 19 to fill the vacancy of
Post Commander. Please plan to attend.
We are now in the Fall Season and enjoying the cooler weather.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us in the Arnold Days Parade.
Your help is very much appreciated! Once again, the weather was perfect for a
parade. Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the beautiful day and to see the
Clydesdales and the many entries in the parade. We distributed over 3,000 flags
this year! A great way to show our patriotism!
In our September meeting, we welcomed our first male member, Tom Lorenz.
Tom is the son of Janet & Jim Lorenz. Jim is a veteran of the Viet Nam and Persian
Gulf Wars. As many of you are aware, the Ladies Auxiliary is now the VFW
Auxiliary and both men and women can join if they are eligible. So, ladies, if you are eligible
through your Dad’s service, your brother can now join and, if you are eligible through your
husband’s service, your son can also join. We look forward to increasing our membership and our
service to veterans and their families in the coming year.
We will be hosting a Fashion Show on November 8th
. Our ladies will be modeling clothes from
Christopher & Banks. Since we are now a women’s and men’s organization we will be asking men
to escort our models to the floor. Plan now to come and enjoy an afternoon of fun and friendship
while the guys go deer hunting!
Veterans Day is an opportunity to publicly commemorate the contributions of living veterans. It is
an opportunity to honor all who have served America. Plan to attend a Veteran’s Day service on
November 11th
.
The Holidays are fast approaching and we are busy making preparations for our annual Children’s
Christmas Party to be held on December 6th
. Watch the next newsletter for details.
If you have not already done so, it is time to pay your dues. In celebration of our75th Anniversary,
dues have been reduced to $10.00, if paid before December 31st
. Send your dues, payable to VFW
Auxiliary, to Pat Schmidt, 2812 Kings Crossing Dr., Barnhart, MO 63012.

Janet Lorenz Auxiliary President
Fall is almost here and like the seasons, things are changing around the post! The
change has been made for the Ladies Auxiliary to become the Auxiliary! I would like
to encourage all members of the Men’s Auxiliary to join the Auxiliary now. We will
be changing our meeting time to 6:30pm, before the monthly meeting, so that we
will be able to attend both meetings.
Our monthly Wing Dings on Ladies Nights are continuing to be a success. Our next 2
Ladies nights will be October 8th
and November 12th
, 6pm each night. Drink specials
and Hot Wings.
Have a good fall!

COOTIE CORNER
I have had the privilege of traveling to all but one of the pup tents so far this year.
Every pup tent works a little differently, but not wanting to sound prejudiced, our
pup tent still is the most fun. Therefore, I'd like to remind everybody that our
scratches are on the first Tuesday of every month and we would really like you to
show up and have some fun with us.
We have a barbecue & bingo, at Cape Girardeau veterans home on October 25.
We'd like you to show up and help with the bingo, if possible. It seems like a
small thing but it really does mean a lot to our veterans in the home.
We had a very good turnout for our cootie picnic and I hope everyone had a good time. It's
always fun to get together.
We have a few things coming up. The last part of October is Tomb Trek where we have the
honor to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. It is
something really special. In December is the Children's Christmas Party at the VFW National
Home in Michigan.
Well, nits, I hope y'all have a pleasant fall.
COOTIE AUXILIARY
Dennis Ecker Seam Squirrel
The Cootie Council of Administration and homecoming for Grand
Commander, Butch Bequette and Grand President, Ann Bartholome
was held in Jefferson City on September 18th & 19th. Our auxiliary and
pup tent were well-represented!
Our auxiliary was presented with numerous awards from the Supreme
Convention that was held in Pittsburgh in July, but the most prestigious was our
SUPREME HOSPITAL AWARD for our hospital donations. We were #1 in the
nation! And, I was honored to receive 2nd place as the Outstanding President.
In the past two months, we've hosted a BBQ & bingo at the St. James and St. Louis state
veterans homes where we also distributed craft kits to the veterans. Our last BBQ & bingo for
the year will be at Cape Girardeau on October 25th.
Our Grand President and her historian visited our auxiliary for inspection at our September
meeting and were given a tour of Jefferson Barracks and Fisher House where they were able to
hear directly from our beneficiaries (both patients and staff) how much our auxiliary contributes
to their well-being.
To continue our mission, we need support for our upcoming fundraiser on November 28th (it's
the Saturday after Thanksgiving). We'll be hosting "Memories of Elvis" starring Steve Davis and
the Mid South Revival. See the flyer in this newsletter for details. Seating charts and flyers will
also be posted in the club room.

Our Post needs volunteers for the next Buddy Poppy
distribution on Friday and Saturday, November 6th
and 7th. A sign up sheet will be posted in the Club
Room. There is no specific time requirement -- as
little as an hour will help.
Remember, Buddy Poppies provide compensation to
the veterans who assemble the poppies, provides
financial assistance in maintaining state and national
veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs and
partially supports the VFW National Home for
orphans and widows of our nation’s veterans.
If you have any questions or need more information
about our Post’s Buddy Poppy program, please
contact Zach Luca at 314-707-1087.
