Tidepool PlantsDid you know that plants can grow under water?

At a tidepool, there are three kinds of plants that grow under water.

Click on a tidepool plant to learn about it!

Kelp

AlgaeSea grass

Kelp

Kelp is the fastest growing plant on Earth! It can grow 18 inches in one day. That means it would be taller than you after only a week!

Kelp plants have four parts:

1) Holdfast 2) Stipe3) Floats (also called) Gas Bladders 4) Blades

At the tidepool, you will find kelp floating on the surface of the water.

Kelp Sea Grass Algae

Sea grass is dark green and has long, thin blades. It is found growing on rocks at the tidepool.

Algae is small and can be red, green, or brown. You will see algae close to the sides or

bottom of the tidepool. It can look fuzzy and feel slimy.
