Presentation Notes
MARCH is a network that aims to bring together institutions, NGO’s and educational establishments. // We use a collaborative learning environment to share innovative content and best practices in Science Education for secondary schools under the theme of "Sustainable Cities". In order to achieve our goals we use new and innovative learning techniques that make science learning more attractive and more appealing to younger people. Our ambition is to reach more than 10.000 schools across Europe and attract the interest of thousands of young students.

It is important to point out that the results in this report do not necessarily provide an exact and complete picture of science education in each of the countries involved in the scoping study, but instead shows trends and highlights issues and challenges in the area of Science Education. The scoping analysis is based on both qualitative and quantitative research, including desk research on existing policies, practices and methodologies, in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders (government officials, experts and practitioners from public, private and not-for-profit organisations, supporting science education in the schools), and online surveys among teachers and students from the seven participating countries. This report presents the results of the MARCH study Its objectives were to review the current state of Science Education across Europe and to map the state-of-the-art of students' and teachers' perceptions and opinions of science teaching in the selected countries. The work was led by Forum Democrit , Bulgaria The scoping analysis is based on both qualitative and quantitative research desk research on existing policies, practices and methodologies online surveys among teachers and students from the seven participating countries in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders 15 May – 30 October 2014

the National Aggregator of Educational Content, open to all, including 5 repositories of open resources and aiming to become the central access point to digital educational content Photodentro LOR hosts open learning objects: small, semantically and functionally autonomous, reusable, open educational resources, tagged with educational metadata. It is targeted to teachers and pupils and it constitutes a core part of the Greek Ministry of Education digital infrastructure for educational content for schools. The paper also discusses issues to be taken into account when designing a National Learning Object Repository for schools, and provides an overview of the Photodentro LOR design and implementation, including semantic interoperability and metadata issues, technical decisions, and workflows for content population. The big picture of the infrastructure that includes the Photodentro National Educational Content Aggregator is also given.

SalsaJ is free, student-friendly software developed specifically for the EU-HOU project. SalsaJ is designed to be easy to install and use. It allows students to display, analyse, and explore real astronomical images and other data in the same way that professional astronomers do, making the same kind of discoveries that lead to true excitement about science. A number of exercises have developed complete with data to download and detailed instructions for use. The flexibility of the SalsaJ tool enables students and teachers to extend the exercises with their own observations. http://www.euhou.net/index.php/salsaj-software-mainmenu-9

Presentation Notes
In an era where science education in adequacy in formal and informal contexts is becoming an increasingly challenging issue, harvesting the potential of digitalscience education repositories appears as a very attractive alternative. However, an impressive abundance of high quality digital content that is available in European repositories remains largely unexploited due to a number of barriers such as: the lack of interoperability between repositories, the inefficiency of current content organization and metadata structures as well as multi-lingual issues. The OpenScienceResources (OSR) project suggested a coordinated solution at European level in order to overcome the aforementioned barriers. For the implemention of the OSR vision, the consortium brought together a balanced mix of high quality science museums and science centres, pedagogues, educational technologists, metadata experts, user groups and standardization bodies.
