Messages have actually been sent through the cable of 1865, from the Great East ern^ thus proving that it has suffered no loss of power since being sub­merged last year. I t is surprising-how often philosophers are at fault in their conclusions, for it is only a few months since a French savant, in a learned work, attempted to prove that the cable of 1865 would by this time be worthless, and a .

F u n e r a l of Colonel S t o b a r t . — O n Saturday afternoon last, the mortal remains of the late Colonel Stobart were in tened at E t h e r k y C h u r c h .
