fThe JFNew Catalog has been a staple in the way they communicate to clients about their mission, values and services provided. Started in 1998, the catalog has undergone a tremendous metamorphosis, beginning originally as a small, black and white magazine which promoted native plants.
As the catalog gained popularity among readers, the content, design and focus shifted to include educational components of native plant restoration. In 2009, the JFNew catalog was elevated to even greater heights as JFNew sought to reduce the environmental footprint of this cherished piece through sustainable paper and printing choices.
Working alongside a professional design firm, I led the conception and completion of the ‘07, ‘08 and ’09 JFNew Resource Catalog. The 2009 edition was recently awarded the Zweig White 2009 Marketing Excellence Award , which recognizes outstanding and effective marketing in the architecture, engineering, construction, and environmental consulting industry.

Brochures
In 2007, JFNew looked to refocus their brand, promoting the newly incepted tagline Full-Service Ecological Solutions™. One of my responsibilities was to take JFNew’s 32 existing application sheets and pare them down to six full-color, four-page brochures which focused on JFNew’s core services, or turnkey solutions. As a result, a new brand position storyline had to be created in order to define what being a full-service company means to the client from a value proposition standpoint.
This extensive project took nearly 10 months to complete as each brochure was written under the editorial direction of our science team. Much of the information included in the brochures required factual research and data collection, coordination of photography and case study sampling.

Newsletters
Another vehicle JFNew found to be an effective way to reach our readers was through their bi-annual newsletter. At the beginning of 2008, I started working with an FSC certified printer out of St. Louis who could not only print this piece more sustainably through the use of wind power, but also print this piece for 50% less cost than our previous printing vendor.
Acting as direct project manager, I was responsible for editorial content, layout, design, vendor management and overall project scheduling.

E-Communications
At the beginning of 2008, the JFNew Marketing Team completed a cost-comparative analysis on paper and postage usage, and we realized quickly that we needed to run leaner in these areas. One effective solution to reducing paper, postage and cost was through adding an E -Communications module to our marketing strategy. Additionally, we were able to communicate more effectively with more clients through electronic communication.
I spear-headed the electronic communications program through web-based technologies such as targeted email campaigns (i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact), e-newsletters and e-announcements.
The savings of the E-Communications program quickly added up, leading to reduced paper usage by 50%, and bottom-line savings of over 33% in printing and postage costs.

Web Site Management
Managed overall web site content and design in accordance to corporate branding policies and procedures.
Assessed SEO/SEM analytical reporting and statistics, measuring monthly visitor flow (i.e. unique's, entry/exit pages, page depth, average time spent, top downloads, etc.).
Led internal design and development of corporate Intranet site, and created an internal forum where ideas and information could be easily exchanged among peers.

Web-Based Media
In January 2008, JFNew implemented the use of web-based media venues to include a corporate video and a series of webinar workshops.
The corporate video was filmed on location at the JFNew Native Plant Nursery during the summer of 2007, and highlights JFNew’s overall experience as the Midwest industry leader in full-service ecological solutions. Click here to view this five minute video.
Additionally, JFNew hosted four educational-based workshops which could be accessed directly online. Because JFNew wanted the audience to interact with the presenters, a real-time question and answer session was available during the webinar. When polled, most audience viewers found this “live” format more valuable over a prerecorded session.
Working alongside a professional film production crew, I provided project management oversight, vendor coordination, voice-over talent selection, and script writing and editing on both of these very unique projects to JFNew.

Non-Profit Design
JFNew takes seriously their commitment to educate the public about the importance of a healthy environment. Often JFNew was asked to provide educational posters and banners to non-profit organizations. These were among some of my favorite projects as I often was given creative independence in terms of content and design.
