Commonly used fonts

Ariel Narrow, Garamond Premeir, Calisto MT, Times Roman

(don’t use Comic Sans for serious presentations)

Spell check, sub/super scripts

50% text and 50% visuals in terms of planning “space” – This is ideal.

Visuals with superimposed text is another good option

Use left alignment of text

Visuals must come from the same “family”

All copy rights/acknowledgements should be strictly followed

• Pausing with blocking of the slide with a paper – Making impact

• Title slide (should have author name, affiliation, logo, date)

• Giving Presentation Plan and Focus

• End slide (Thank you with contact details)

• Footer (slide # out of #, date, author)

• Slide talking points in bullets for key or complex slides

• Giving sources/ references

Level of Details

• Are we making the presentation to map “everything”? Is the audience interested? Can we handle a few details through hard copy supplement or web link that can be followed later?

• Can someone else substitute you anytime for the presentation? Is this intended? Are you needed every time / all the time?

Developing the Slides • First use “bare” template

• Put only title slides

• Print, discuss, get approved and then finalize –

especially slides that will be kept in stock as a back up; slides that will be hyperlinked; slides that serve as “pauses”, “separators”, “punches”

• Now select/design the template and start filling in ….
