The Blue Sun is a virtual reality world for people to live their ideal life. There’s merely nodifferencebetweenthevirtualandtherealexceptthesunisblue intheformer.ForRen,17yearsold,hislifeinTheBlueSunismorefascinaAngthanlifeinreality,wherehehastoaZendthecramschoolevenduringthesummervacaAon.Oneday,RenhappenstofindoutthathisclassmateRu,thegirlhehascrushon,appearsintheGreyZone–amysteriouszoneinTheBlueSunwheresex,violenceandcrimeoverrun.IsthatgirlreallyRu,oristheresomeonemimickingRu.Ifthat’sreallyher,whywouldshegotothezone?Renwantstodisclosethetruth,sohetakesadventureintheGreyZone.Heendsupdiscover the secret affair of Ru and Peter Chen, the cram school teacher, and is thereforeinvolvedinaviolentduelwithPeter.Strangely,Peterdisappearsfromthecramschoolthenextday.Nooneknowswherehe is.Theonlyclue ishisheavily-damagedcarwhichparks in therecyclingfactory.The longer aler Peter disappears, themore rumors occur. LIN Shih Chieh, based in Taipei, is an audiovisual arAst whoseworks focus on thethemeofmemoryandreality,psychogeography,andthereconstrucAonofhistories.HeholdsMFAinFilmandVideofromCaliforniaInsAtuteoftheArts,wherehefounda bridge across visual arts and cinema. His recent worksA short History of Decay(2014) and Xinyiwood (2015) have screened and exhibited in various fesAvals andvenues internaAonally. He currently works on the expanded cinema trilogy IslandDreamin inspired by the 18th century Frenchman George Psalmanazar’s ficAonalethnography of Taiwan, aZempAng to picture contemporary Taiwan in thepostcolonial/post-globalizaAon context. The blue Sun is his first feature film incollaboraAonwithdirectorKOChenNien.
